Participatory Budgeting Update

The Participatory Budgeting committee have been working hard on buying fun outdoor equipment for playtime and outdoor learning. Our budget was £1800 and we came in just under budget.

We bought:

  • A sandpit
  • An outdoor playhouse
  • An activity table
  • Outdoor waterproof mats
  • 2x mini football goals
  • Three large chalkboards
  • Outdoor tray with a stand and cover
  • 2x basketball nets
  • 2x large football goals

We think we have been very successful with the equipment we bought and we think these items will be very beneficial to our pupils at St Ninians.

Wee Box Appeal

St Ninian’s Primary School have decided to participate in the Wee Box appeal to help the less fortunate and those surrounded by poverty. Along with SCIAF we can help these poor people get back on their feet. With small donations we will be able to double the amount of money raised meaning even a single pound will be doubled by the help of the UK gift aid scheme. With your help we can make a difference in poor societies.

Any wee boxes should be returned by the 24th of April at the latest, this will allow us to count your donations and send them to SCIAF.

Many thanks,

Jan & Adrin, Pupil Leadership Committee

SOCKtober

A message from The School Bank

Have you heard of SOCKtober? Well this is our spin on SOCKtober… virtually all of the uniform packs we provide to our local children who need a helping hand with the cost of the school day include brand new socks and/or brand new tights. This October we would like to ask if you could donate a pack of Socks or Tights to help us with our packs over the coming weeks. We need:
1. Socks size infant 9 right up to adult size 12 in preferably grey or black but any colour is fine.
2. Tights age 5-12 years (grey or black) and tights age 12-18 years or ladies size small/medium/large (black only) would be wonderful.

We appreciate all donations  – we are delighted with any support you can give us during our SOCKtober campaign.

Socks can be handed into St Ninian’s school office and then will be collected by a member of The School Bank Team.

Thank you 😍😍😍😍😍

European Handball Federation Challenge Cup this weekend

Please find below a flier for Livingston v Dicken (Finland) Handball Clubs who are competing in the European Handball Federation Challenge Cup this weekend. The matches take place this Saturday and Sunday at Oriam with 5pm and 2pm starts respectively. These are the first European club matches to take place in Scotland in over 20 years and, with a number of former West Lothian school pupils taking part, it would be great if you could share with students in your schools that might be interested in this opportunity to attend such high level matches. Tickets can be bought on the day for £2 (adults) and £1 (children).

Have your say! How can we use PEF to support all children and families at St Ninian’s?

Last year we received £63,000 funding from the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund to help close the poverty related attainment gap.

We used this money to:-

  • Have an extra support for learning teacher (Mrs Scott) to provide extra literacy and numeracy support in all classes
  • Employ a Polish Pupil Support Worker to support children who are learning English
  • Run a PEEP (family learning) class for parents and nursery children
  • Reduce the cost of after school clubs, camps and trips
  • Employ a Speech & Language therapist to work with identified groups of children from nursery – P3
  • Provide high quality professional learning for all staff.
  • Purchase new writing resources for P1-7 to improve children’s attainment in writing
  • Employ an extra teacher to support us with Number Talks across P1-7
  • Purchase a numeracy home learning kit for P2-4 pupils – these will be launched in August
  • Purchase new netbooks and iPads for each class

We will receive £60,000 PEF funding this year.

What do you think our school should STOP, START and CONTINUE to do to help all our children make progress and to support all families?

Please add your comments below.

Bake Sale

This week during Parent’s Evenings, P7 pupils will be organising and running a bake sale. Any funds raised will go towards their Leavers Event in June.

Any donations of home-baking should be handed in to P6/7 or P7 on Wednesday morning.

Thank you in advance.
