P6 blog 🙂

In Maths we have been working on fractions, decimals and percentages.  We have enjoyed this as it has been very challenging and we can understand when we might use these skills in real life.

In Literacy we were writing a summary on our new book and we did comprehension – we will be using a new comprehension tool in class, which we are really excited about as we get to self-assess and take charge of our own progression.  We also continued our new books.

In Writing we did a balanced argument for and against. We wrote it about mobile phones being compulsory. We enjoyed discussing both sides of the argument and were able to include persuasive language.

In Art we did perspective it means that you draw a creative and illusion picture that looks like it flows out of the paper.

We have been researching about the life of Mary Queen of Scots and the key events of her life that has helped to shape Scotland.

During RE we have been learning about suffering and that God helps us to get through difficult times.  Also that we can speak to people in our lives to help us if we are feeling sad or upset.

P6 Learning Week

We have had a really good week this week in Primary 6. We had our very first visit of the year to the Lanthorn Library, we chose a personal reading book.  This week our reading focus has been reading for enjoyment so it was perfect timing.

We have continued focussing on subtraction and addition in numeracy and have been making really good progress. Today we evaluated our learning and Evaluated our work to provide a rule for completing column sums. We used our assessment is for learning skills to create a three step strategy to solve column sums. Some children were desperate to use their rules and apply them to challenging 9 digit addition sums. Well done, Mrs McMullen was very impressed at the positive mindsets shown by all of P6 towards maths.

We have been learning about the importance of Remembrance Day and about the 100 year anniversary. Today we created our own poppy pictures on top of the poem, Flanders Field. (Pictures to follow next week)

We we have been exploring OneNote and will continue to do more next week. We have sent lots of emails to Mrs McMullen. 😁

Have a lovely weekend 😁

It’s been a great first week back, so lovely to see everyone looking so refreshed and ready to learn after a lovely summer break.  So smart and grown up in their lovely uniforms.

We have already started our new class novel and this will be our Literacy and Topic focus, Pig Heart Boy.  The pupils are enjoying it so far, it covers so many interesting themes, including lots of science.

We have created our new Class Charter and agreed on what we think is best for our classroom.  We have spoken about the three themes for our school; Ready, Respectful, Safe.

Important information for this term.

PE days this year are Monday and Wednesday.

All pupils should have indoor shoes for wearing in class and PE lessons.

Pupils should be ready to learn; all pupils should bring a sharp pencil every day and a full bottle of water, which can be refilled if needed.

Mrs McMullen works on Monday, Tuesday and every second Friday.

Mrs Kerr works on Wednesday, Thursday and alternate Fridays.

We are looking forward to a great year in Primary 6,
