P1 Mrs Davenport Wednesday 22.4.20

Good morning,

I hope you are all getting on well with the weekly grid this week. The link is posted again below for you to access this easier. Have you enjoyed the sunny weather this week? I have been enjoying doing my work in the garden!

Learning Grid Week 3 (1)

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Home Learning Grid

How are you getting on with the alien story? I finished my story yesterday but I think I made a few mistakes again. Can you spot them?

A little green alien wif a fluffy tail went on A rocket. (2 mistakes)

the rocket was fast and took the alien to the beach. (1 mistake)

At the beach thi alien went in the sea for a swim (2 mistakes)

“i love the beach”, said the alien, hee didn’t want to go back to the moon. (2 mistakes)

Literacy

On a device find the ‘phonics bloom website’. At the top of the page select the button ‘phonics games’. I would suggest picking phase 2. When you are playing games you may wish to select phase 1 if some sounds are too tricky or select phase 3 if you need more of a challenge. There are lots of different free phonics games for you to play – I think that the game ‘match cards’ is a great game too. It will develop your reading skills. The link below will take you straight to the ‘match cards’ game.

Numeracy

Watch the videos below to practise counting in 10’s:

Have a go at counting in 10’s at home. I have attached a counting in 10’s worksheet below for you to have a go at too. Be careful because some of the counting sequences go from smallest to largest and others largest to smallest.

Counting in 10’s

Good luck!

P1 Mrs Davenport Tuesday 21.4.20

Good morning everyone!

I hope your first day back of home learning went well for you.

Home Learning Grid

I had a little go at sorting some of the toys into push and pull, here are some of my ideas:

Literacy

It is important when you write a lowercase letter j that it hangs below the line.  Look at this image showing both the capital and lowercase j.  In your jotter you can also try writing the capital letter J.  Some of the months of the year start with a capital J eg January, June, July.

Numeracy

I have set a Sumdog challenge for you to try.  It is called Number Word challenge and it focuses on the learning the words that go with each number up to twenty, for example,

9 is written and spelled as nine

Some of the number words can be sounded out but others are sight words that you need to learn.  The challenge opens today at 9am and closes on Thursday at 3pm.

Good luck.

It was lovely to hear from some of you yesterday, I was working in the St. Ninians hub yesterday so I am looking forward to getting back to you all today.

Missing Numbers Worksheet Week 3

Good morning everyone and welcome to Term 4.  I hope you all had a lovely time over the last two weeks enjoying some of the sunshine we had.

Please find above your weekly grid with learning activities for you to complete.  There is also another two attachments for you to use; one to write a book report as part of your reading activity, the other to support your numeracy learning.

Remember to check into the blog everyday to see the daily posts which will contain some additional activities to help support your learning from the grid.

Don’t forget you can get in touch with me by using the comments section on this blog post.  You can ask questions, share learning with me or even just say hello!  I love hearing from you and will respond as quickly as I can.

Have a lovely day and have fun!

Today is about self-assessing; how have you got on with your learning this week?

This week we are using 2 stars and a wish to assess our learning. Some of the tasks you have completed you will be thinking about 2 things you done well with your activity and 1 thing you could have done even better. You can talk about this to someone at home or draw the stars beside the things you done well and a wand for a wish beside the thing you could have done better.

Health and Wellbeing

How did you get on with naming the different body parts? I have attached an image below of different body parts. How many of these body parts did you find and label?

Can you complete the 2 stars and a wish self assessment strategy for this activity.

E.g.

Star – Labelled all the body parts on the face.

Star – I tried to sound out the names of body parts when spelling on my own.

Wish – Think about the body parts that are inside my body.

IDL

How did you get on with your research topic? What do you want to be when you grow up? Write a comment below about what you would like to be. When I was at primary school I wanted to be a vet! I changed my mind when I got older and decided to be a teacher instead – I am very glad that I changed my mind!

Literacy

Can you use the 2 stars and a wish tool to self-assess your writing from this week? Did you spot the mistakes I made in my story this week? I have pointed them out below for you.

  1. first get two slices of bread and put butter on one side. I missed a capital letter.
  2. Next grate some chese and put it on the bread I missed a full stop and spelled cheese wrong.
  3. Then carefully cut the sandwich in half.
  4. Finally injoy your cheese sandwich. I spelled enjoy wrong.

I have attached the link for the reading activity for you self-assess your work against.

P1 Reading Activities Week 2 Self Assessment

Numeracy

When completing your number talks for this week did you spot dice pattern of 4 on the rekenrek and the 10 frame? I spotted the dice pattern of 4 and then counted on.

How did you get on using the online rekenrek to complete my number talks? I have given you the answers to my examples from yesterday:

  • Use the rekenrek (in link) to create 6. I made 6 by doing a double. What did I do?

I had 3 + 3 = 6. I had 3 at the top and 3 at the bottom. This also looks like the 6 dice pattern.

  • Use the rekenrek to create 7. I had 2 at the top, how many on the bottom row to make 7?

I had 5 at the bottom. 2 + 5 = 7.

  • Use the rekenrek to create 8. I had 5 at the bottom, how many on the top row to make 8?

I had 3 at the top. 3 + 5 = 8.

Counting in 2’s is another super number talks strategy. On Tuesday, we asked you to have a go at counting in 2’s and completing a counting in 2’s worksheet. I have attached the completed counting in 2’s worksheet to 60. You can use this to self-assess both of the worksheets attached on Tuesday’s blog post. See below:

Counting in 2’s past 60 Self Assessment

How did you get on with completing the pictogram questions this week? I have posted the answers below in the attachment.

Pictogram self assessment

Well done everyone who completed some of these tasks this week, also remember the importance of play and the life skills you can develop from helping out around the house.

P1 Mrs Davenport Daily Activities 2.4.20

Good morning,

I hope you are all getting on well with the weekly grid this week. I also hope that you have enjoyed going outside to play in the garden (in your something fun section of the grid). I was very pleased that it wasn’t raining much this week and I was able to go outside playing in my garden with my dogs too – we even spotted a little hedgehog!

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Home Learning Grid

How are you getting on with the number talks section for this week? I have added a link for the number rack ‘rekenrek’ below.

https://apps.mathlearningcenter.org/number-rack/

I used the rekenrek yesterday and I was wondering if you could try to copy what I made (I’ll only give a few clues though!)

  • Use the rekenrek (in link) to create 6. I made 6 by doing a double. What did I do?
  • Use the rekenrek to create 7. I had 2 at the top, how many on the bottom row to make 7?
  • Use the rekenrek to create 8. I had 5 at the bottom, how many on the top row to make 8?

Literacy

This is a listening and talking activity today. Today at 12 noon, Blair Drummond Safari Park will be doing a live keeper talk on Facebook. Ask an adult to find this for you. Listen to what the keeper is telling you about the animal. If you have a question, you can ask an adult to type your question into the comments section and the keeper might answer it for you.

When the talk is finished you might want to draw a picture of the animal you learned about in your jotter – you might even wish to write some facts you learned.

I will be listening too – I can’t wait to hear if some of your questions are answered!

Numeracy

I know how much you loved the Sumdog challenge last week so I decided to set you another challenge this week. I was so impressed with how many of you completed the challenge from last week and some of your scores were very impressive!

Log into your sumdog account (login details were in your home learning jotter), I have set you a challenge to complete.

The challenge is called ‘Measure Challenge’ and it should come up when you log in. We had been learning about measure in January and this challenge will consolidate and extend your learning about this topic. The challenge will begin at 9am today and will finish at 3pm tomorrow. I am going to be logging in to sumdog to play along with you and see how you are getting on this afternoon.

Good luck!

P1 Mrs Davenport Daily Activities 1.4.20

Good morning,

I hope you are all getting on well with the weekly grid this week. I have attached the grid below to help you access this. Here are some further activities/suggestions to extend and deepen your learning today.

Learning Grid Week 2

Home Learning Grid

How are you getting on with making a rocket? I made my one yesterday! Here is a list of the items I used when I made it:

Large cardboard box

Yoghurt cartons

Coloured paper

Sticky Tape

Paint

One way to write a list is when you write items one underneath the other.

Have a go at writing your own list, it could be about your rocket too or about anything you have made/built.

Literacy

I decided to write a set of instructions for my favourite sandwich but I think I have made a few mistakes, can you spot them?

  1. first get two slices of bread and put butter on one side.
  2. Next grate some chese and put it on the bread
  3. Then carefully cut the sandwich in half.
  4. Finally injoy your cheese sandwich.

CLUE – There is one missing capital letter, one missing full stop and two spelling errors

Numeracy

Here is a link to a pictograph interactive game.

When you open the link click on the option of either Vertical or Horizontal unit = 1.  This way each picture on the graph represents 1.

You can then choose from How many?, How many More….than…? and How many fewer… than…?

Good luck.

P1 Mrs Davenport 31.3.20

Good morning everyone. I hope you have had a good first day with the new home learning grid. If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Home Learning Grid

How are you getting on with learning the ‘y’ sound? Have you been practising writing this sound? Make sure you keep the tummy on the line and the tail underneath when writing this sound. It should be like a ‘u’ to begin with and include smooth curved lines, not pointy lines. This image shows you start and end points to help.

Literacy

Logon to the phonics play website using the login below:

Phonics Play – Username – march20

Password – home

The login details will give you free access without needing to subscribe.

Click on resources at the top. Try the games ‘tricky words truck’ or ‘flashcard speed trial’.

Note for Parents – if your child says the correct word or sound click correct if not click incorrect. I recommend to select ‘pick individual graphemes (sounds)’ or ‘pick individual tricky words’ to select which sounds or words appear in the game.

Numeracy

Today we are focusing on counting in 2’s (skip counting). This is an excellent strategy to use to count quickly and we had started to learn about this as a number talks strategy when we were in school. I know that you all loved this counting in 2’s video:

Here is a trickier counting by 2’s song which goes all the way to 100!

I have attached 2 different counting by 2’s worksheets below. If you have a printer at home you may wish to print these out and complete or you could ask an adult to copy into your jotter. One of these worksheets counts in 2’s to 20 and another beyond 60!

Counting in 2’s to 20

Counting in 2’s past 60

Enjoy and good luck!

Have a lovely day P1 and I’m looking forward to seeing how you are getting on with the extra activities today.

P1 Mrs Davenport Week 2 Home Learning Grid

Good morning everyone.  I hope you are ready for another brilliant week of fun learning from home.  I have put a link below for your weekly grid of activities, as well as a link to a reading exercise (check out the reading section on the grid).

Learning Grid Week 2

P1 Reading Activities Week 2

I can’t wait to find out what you all get up to this week.

Mrs Davenport.

P1 Mrs Davenport Daily Activities 27.3.20

Today is about self-assessing; how have you got on with your learning this week?

This week we are using The Fist Of Five to assess our learning (five fingers mean you have fully understood your task and feel confident with the skill, four fingers means you are nearly there perhaps just a little more practise needed, three fingers you needed some support but then were able to do it, two fingers you needed support to do most of it, one finger you needed support and would still need support in the future with this type of task)

You can either show your score to someone at home or if you have recorded work in your jotter, draw a circle and put little lines coming out of it to represent your fingers.

Home Learning Grid

This week we were focusing on our topic of ‘Space’.

What different things will you see in the sky at night that you don’t see during the day?

Answer: moon and stars.

Can anyone remember what was special about the sun?

Can you find out who the first astronaut was that landed on the moon?

Answer: Neil Armstrong

Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin followed closely after Neil Armstrong.

Did you find out the name of the rocket that took them to the moon?

Literacy

How did you get on with your story? Using tickled pink, highlight the conjunctions you used (and, because). Also find any describing words (adjectives) and tickle pink those too.  If you used a capital letter and a full stop at the start and end of your sentence draw a pink circle around them.  Using green for growth ask an adult to underline only two words that you have spelled incorrectly, and then underneath write the two words correctly three times.

Did anyone find the mistakes that I had made in my story?

One sunny day a gigantic green spaceship landed in my Garden. a silly alien jumpd out ov the spaceship and banged on my door The alien wanted to come ni my house For tea. I gave the alien a tasty pizza to eat. then he went bak to his spaceship and flew away

I had forgotten some rules of capital letters and full stops. I even managed to spell 2 sight words wrong! Oops!

Numeracy

Don’t forget that the Sumdog challenge is still live until 3pm today, it’s not too late to earn all your coins. I had fun playing along with sumdog yesterday but I wasn’t able to beat any scores in the football goal scoring game! My favourite game was the racing car game!

Here are your answers for the numeracy questions;

3 + 4 = 7 7 – 2= 5 10 – 3=7 6 + 3= 9 4 + 4= 8 6 – 1= 5 8 – 8 =0
5 – 3 = 2 5+5 =10 7 + 0 =7 9 – 0 =9 10 – 8=2 7 + 1 =8 5 + 3 =8

Or these calculations are a bit more challenging:

13+4=17 17–2=15 20–3=17 6+13=19 4+14=18 16–1=15 18–8=10
15–3=12 5+15=20 17+0=17 19–0=19 20–8=12 17+1=18 15+3=18

When completing your number talks for the ten frame or the rekenrek did you use any of these strategies,

  • Counting in ones
  • Five wise (seeing a pattern of five) and counting on
  • Counting in twos
  • Did you complete a number story e.g. 5 + 2 = 7

For the number talks dot pattern did you use any of these strategies,

  • See a dice pattern
  • Spot a double
  • Count in twos

Well done everyone who completed some of these tasks this week, also remember the importance of play and the life skills you can develop from helping out around the house.

I will be posting again on Monday with your week 2 grid.

Thanks again for all the comments on the blog and e-mails with your work or questions – it is lovely to hear from you all.
