P4/5 Weekly news

This week we have been working very hard. It has been a very busy week.

In numeracy we have been working on estimating and rounding. We have found this pretty tricky and will continue to work on this over the next week to make sure we have a good understanding of this. We have also been practising our times tables and getting more confident with the 4 times tables.

We have enjoyed working in groups this week to research many facts about the Titanic. We used the information we researched to create fact files. We focused on the ship this week during writing where we annotated a cross section diagram of the Titanic. We were very surprised at how little space the third class passengers had on the ship compared to the first class passengers.

In Art we drew a perspective drawing of the Titanic using pencil. We used our pencil to shade different parts of the ship. Mrs Wassell thinks they are fantastic.

Do you like our Titanic display? We created the Titanic using a variety of junk materials. Some of us have done fantastic Titanic homework that is displayed up there too. titanic

Today is friendship Friday. We have dressed in yellow to show awareness of anti-bullying and friendships. We all donated £1 to give to charity.

A dreamy week in P4/5

This week has been a very busy week filled with dreams. We even welcomed a new boy Maciek all the way from Poland. We have all been very kind to him and have made sure he has had a super week.

Finlay – We made dream catchers with paper plates, wool, feathers and beads. I liked doing this and it’s been my favourite thing this week.

Lukasz – This week we were reading the BFG. I like the silly nonsense words that Roald Dahl uses in his books. It is funn-a-liciousy-do!

Lewis – In the BFG story we found out that the BFG eats snozzcumbers. We then looked at healthy and unhealthy foods. We made food pyramids for our diets and some of them had many sweets and chocolate. This is something we are going to try and eat less and eat more fruit and vegetables.

Aria – In maths this week we have been learning about rounding to the nearest 10. If the unit is 0,1,2,3 or 4 we round down to the nearest 10 and if the unit is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 we round up to the nearest 10. We did a maths assessment to see what we have remembered from P3 and P4.

Tanatswa – For reading this week, we read a passage from the BFG that had some silly words in it. We had to work in trios to identify the silly words and work out what the sensible word should be.

Mirren – Father Paul has left to go to a new parish so we learned a song to sing to him. It was a lovely song and he really enjoyed it.

Charlie – We also coloured a stain glass cross and wrote many nice words to describe Father Paul. These were put into a scrap book which was presented to him during his leaving assembly.

Check us out with our fantastic dream catchers.

A fun and exciting week in P4!

We cannot believe the summer holidays are nearly here. This has been the quickest year ever. Filled with lots of fun and laughter. This week was no exception.

We began the week with lots of hard work linked to our topic. For reading this week we focused on Nonfiction texts. We read all about Mo Farah and watched a video of him competing in the 2012 London Olympics.  We explored the different features of Nonfiction texts and read the passage very carefully to find information. We learned lots about Mo Farah.

In Art we looked at the Rio skyline. We could see the ‘Christ the Reedemer’ statue, many buildings of all different shapes and sizes and lots of mountains. We drew the Rio skyline on black paper, cut it out and placed it on top of our pastel backgrounds. This gave a super effect.

In Maths we have revised digital time using am and pm. He have a good understanding of this and becoming more and more confident with telling the time.

We were very lucky this week and got to try out Judo. It was great fun!!! We learned some good moves. Some of us are very keen to start Judo to learn more.

20160614_111102 20160614_110458 20160614_111627

On Thursday we had a super day at Murrayfield. We even met 2 rugby players who came to chat to us and answered all of our tricky questions. We played great rugby games with some coaches. That really tired us out. Then we went for lunch and a wee relax. After that we split into groups to do the tour of Murrayfield. It was fantastic. We saw lots of their trophies and where the VIPs go to watch the match. What a view! That’s where we want to sit when we go. We saw where the TV broadcaster and radio broadcasters go. Paige, Chichi and Chloe even got to be a radio broadcaster. That was tough keeping up with what was happening. We had to speak so quickly.  Our favourite part was when we got to be the players. We went into the changing rooms, even got a pep talk from the captain and then walked out onto the pitch with O Flower of Scotland playing in the background. What an amazing feeling that was. Mrs Wassell said our behaviour was excellent. So much so she has promised us extra Golden time next week.
