Primary 3/4 News

This week we have been continuing with our ‘time’ topic in maths. We have been working in small groups to design a time device. We had to make sure that we stuck to the success criteria. This which was to make sure that our time device had an analogue or digital clock somewhere on our design. We also had to create a special feature on our clock. We didn’t disappoint! What a collection of interesting clocks we have created.

We have had:

  • Clocks with a rewind and fast forward button.
  • Clocks with a magic portal that transport you to another place.
  • Clocks which change from a watch to an alarm clock.
  • Even a clock that can wake you up for school and then get you ready.

That’s only naming a few; it has been fantastic work from everybody.

Next week we will be moving on to being able to tell the time using o’clock, half past, quarter past/to.

We have also made a start to rehearsing for our class assembly which will take place next week and we are really excited about telling the story of ‘The Three Wee Pigs in Scots’ for the school. We are feeling very confident after the success of our ‘Great Scots Show’.

It has been a short week however we have managed to squeeze it all in.

Have a lovely and restful weekend.

“Technologies week is the best week ever” said Mark.

“It has been really fun and awesome.” said Brooke

“It has been really really exciting.” said Ailie

On Wednesday we enjoyed our trip to West Lothian College to visit the Engineering and Science department. During this trip we had a tour of the workshop. We got to see lots of different people working to build walls, stairs, and really cool machines to cut metal.

“I liked seeing all the big machines” said EvieIMG_0322[1]

Finally we got to have a peek at the electricians hard at work. “My favourite was the electricians.” said Caiden. After our grand tour we had a chance to build our own machines.

“My team built an alarm with a horn and lights. This was tricky to build but we got in the end.” said Hannah.

“I built the siren it was really complicated even for the people helping but we got it in the end. It was fun!” said Aoife

“I built a car. It was kind of tricky because the wires were hard to put in the tiny holes.” said Adrin

Thank you WesIMG_0373[1]t Lothian College for a great trip.

Yesterday we had a visitor from Scotch Beef. During this visit we had a look at the different symbols for meat and what they mean.

“The symbols meant the animals never went out of Scotland.” said Mark

“This also meant that the animals have had a very happy life.” Said Gaby

The lady was teaching us all about the vitimans that meat can give you and how this helps your body.

“The meat can give strength, helps your blood cells, it can help with your bones and it can heal your cuts and give you extra energy.” said Jan

“We had a chance to make beef faijtas. They tasted like beef and vegetable. I didn’t really but I gave it a try.” said Joesph

“The faijtas tasted like heaven!” said Rachel

Have a lovely long weekend!

This week has been a fabulous week.

This week we have started our new topic ‘A Wee Book of Fairy Tales in Scots.’

“The first story we read was the Three Wee Pigs.” Said Aidan

“This story was not the same because the words were different.” said Ailie

“It was in Scottish slang.” said Rachel.

“The book is really fun to read.” Said Evie

In drama we were leaning the skill of hotseating. Ailie was the Big Bad Wolf and the rest of the class were the news reporters. We had some interesting questions to ask the wolf about his terrible crime.

Then for art we went a hunt around our garden to find different things objects, shapes and textures to inspire our Big Bad Wolf picture. Take a look at some of our pictures.

P4 are PURE DEAD BRILLIANT!

We kicked off the week with 2 fabulous performances. I’m sure you will all agree that there are real stars amongst P3 and 4! Thank you for all your help with preparing costumes and props and especially for coming to see us perform!

show

In Maths we have started division with remainders. We can divide by a single digit using a standard method. We have been playing lots of multiplication games to help us learn our tables to help with our division. Brandon really enjoyed ‘All around the world!”.

As it was Burns day on Monday 25th of January we studied some of his poems with a focus on Scots language. We enjoyed trying to work out what some of the words meant. Rebecca learned that ‘reekin’ meant steaming. Max learned that ‘onie’ meant any.

For writing this week we wrote a recipe for making porridge. Charlie thought it was fabulous. Isla tasted porridge for the first time. She thought it was “Pure dead tasty!”

porr4porrporr2

We learned all about verbs that we might use when cooking. Some of the verbs we thought of were; mix, stir, bake, cook, boil and cut. We had fun playing Verb Splat and learning a verb rap!

When we were doing the show we learned about 3 ‘Great Scots’! One of those great Scots was Robert the Bruce. We drew portraits of Robert the Bruce using line and tone. We did an amazing job!! They have made a fabby display.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Reading books… what a hoot!

Mrs Wassell and some of primary 1 had a fantastic first week at the lunchtime book club. We read the story ‘The Gruffalo’! Some children had heard the story before but were delighted to hear it again as it was “OUR FAVOURITE”

We could recognise the rhyming patterns and the link the animals to the sound they make.

Anna: “This has been the best ever! I can’t wait to come back!”

Julia: “I loved listening to the Gruffalo!”

Leo: “The book was fantastic!”

We can’t wait to see what the story will be next week!!

Lights, camera and action for P4!

P4 have been rehearsing lots this week and now we are ready to perform. We had a dress rehearsal this morning for the whole school! We were fantastic! There were roars of laughter and even tears! We just know you will love it!!

In Art this week we painted lots of Scottish thistles and red roses to decorate the stage. We also created our own family tartan to make buntin. The stage is looking fabulous!!

In between rehearsals and music practices we have also been working super hard. This week we started division using a standard method. At first we found it quite tricky but we think we are getting the hang of it now. We have recognised that we need to know our times tables very well in order to do division so this is something we are going to continue working on. We are ready to tackle remainders next week. We had a little flavour of this with our challenge questions this week.

At the beginning of the week we were noun detectives. We had an opportunity to look through our books and highlight lots of nouns. We learned all about common nouns, pronouns and proper nouns.

We are now ready to relax and prepare over the weekend for the big day on Monday. We are rather excited to say the least. Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend

Primary 3/4 News

This week we had a chance to make our very own Scottish dinner. We had time to think about the Scottish meaning for this.

Mark said “This is called haggis, neeps and tatties.

Jay-p said “I loved the tatties”

Gaby said “It was really good”

Aidan “You had to put holes in the neep to make it cook it better.”

Shannon said “I liked the haggis and I liked the tattie. I didn’t really like the neep.”

Adrin said “It was delicious!”

Lukasz said “I loved the haggis! I didn’t like the neeps and tatties.”

Nasim said “It was so delicious”

We have been impressed with our show rehearsal and we can’t believe that it’s only 1 week until we perform for the whole school.

Mark said “There will be lots of surprises for everyone.”

Jacob said “Our show is getting great. I am finding it funny when the Redcoats shoot the cannon at the Jacobite’s.”

Rachel said “I find it funny when there is a joke about Irn Bru” However you will have to wait and see what we are talking about.”

Have a lovely weekend!

Back with a bang for P4!!!

P4 have been working so hard to make sure our show is fantastic. A lot of work and commitment has gone into learning our lines, the songs and our positions on stage. It is coming along nicely and we are very excited to perform for you all.

In Writing this week we wrote letters to Father Paul to invite him to come and see our show. We really hope he can fit us in to his very busy schedule because we think he will really love it.

We used this week to secure our knowledge of multiplication in maths. We are feeling confident that we can multiply a 2-digit number by 1 digit (with carrying). We have also been learning the 8 and 9 times tables. Brandon shared a trick for the 9 times table with us.

Brandon: “When you are doing the 9 times table the tens column goes up 1 and the unit column goes down 1 e.g. 9×2 =18 9×3=27 9×4=36”

Chi Chi: “I know another trick for the 9 times table. If you add the ten and the unit together, they make 9. E.g. 9x 5= 45  4+5= 9”

This has been a very special week in P4 because we have started the Sacramental preperation for making our Confirmation. We have been talking about our names and how unique they are to us. Some of us found out the meaning of our name. It was very interesting.

Chloe: “My name means ‘green shoot’ (blooming)”

Isla: “My name is named after the Isle of Islay”

Ethan: “My name means ‘strong'”

We have been reading stories from the bible where Jesus and Mary were touched by the Holy Spirit. We have learned that the Holy Spirit can appear as fire, a dove and wind.

Another week of exciting learning for us all.

Have a great weekend everyone.
