Self-Assessment

We are going to use our Growth mindset this week to help us self-assess our learning.

If you are ‘stuck’ or need help, remember the importance of the word YET!

“I can’t do this…yet!”

This means we never give up and keep trying!  Watch this Sesame Street video about “The Power Of Yet”.

Literacy

The skill we were working on was editing. Have a look at the story below with the mistakes corrected.  Also I have added my ending.

One day I was in my Grandma’s garden playing.  My Grandma has a little wood at the bottom of her garden and I am not allowed to go in there.  Today I broke the rule and I went in it.  Behind some very thick bushes I could see a very old door.  I slowly turned the handle of the door and opened it.  I could not believe my eyes. I could see a small beautiful wild garden.  In the middle of the garden there was a huge strong tree.  Hanging from one of the branches was an old wooden swing.  I love swings so I tested it for strength and once I was sure I would not break I played all day on it.  It was such a magical day.

Numeracy

Have a look at the worksheet below for the estimates of where the numbers would be on the number line, how close were your estimates?

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

P1 Mrs Currie Daily Update 22.05.20

Good morning everyone!

This week we will continue to use our growth mindset as we self-assess our activities for this week.

This video will explain the positive effects of a growth mindset:

Literacy

I tried to spell the words at the end of the ‘wh power point presentation’. Have a look at how I got on; did I spell all the words correctly?

whel

whip

wiz

wen

whihc

where

What questions did you think of to ask some characters in the Gruffalo? I picked 2 questions for the mouse and 2 for the Gruffalo.

Numeracy

This week you had to find half of 4, 6, 8 and 10.

Have a look at the towers I made to find half. Can you check to see if you got these problems correct?

Number Talks

How did you get on with your number talks this week? How did you see the 10 frame? I counted in 2’s, 2, 4, 6, 8 and then I saw that there were 2 missing and I know that if a 10 frame is full there would be 10 spots, so I wrote a number story 10 – 2 = 8

For the rekenrek I looked at the 2 different colours, I saw that there were 5 red and 2 white so I wrote an addition story 5 + 2 = 7. Did you do this a different way from me?

Outdoor Learning

How did you do with your Gruffalo hunt? I didn’t manage to find a Gruffalo but I did use my senses to spot some other things. Here is what I found. Have I matched up my findings to the correct senses?

Mrs Conway has asked that we can complete this form.  Click the link below.  Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

P2 Mrs Currie Daily Update Friday 15.5.20

Good morning!

It’s Friday so that means self-assessment time.

This week we will return to focusing on two stars and a wish.

For this I would like you to choose two things you think you did really well with this week with your learning (these are the two stars) and write them down or tell someone at home.  Then decide on one thing you would like to improve (this is your wish).

Literacy

To assess your spelling get someone at home to call out the words from the weekly grid and you write them down.  How many can you spell correctly?

For your free writing use this writing skills success criteria to assess how you got on:

Your success criteria for this writing was to;

  • Write at least 6 lines
  • Finish each line with a rhyming word
  • Use neat handwriting

Mark each of your success criteria with tickled pink or green for growth.

Mathematics and Numeracy

If you find any of the following images a little small to read, clicking on them makes them a little bigger.

Numeracy answers:

I hope you have had fun this week.

Please remember that Monday is a holiday, so it will be Tuesday next week that your weekly grid will be posted.

P1 Mrs Currie Daily Update Friday 15.05.20

Good morning everyone!

Self-Assessment

We are going to use our Growth mindset this week to help us self-assess our learning.

If you are ‘stuck’ or need help remember the importance of the word YET!

“I can’t do this…yet!”

This means we never give up and keep trying!  Watch this Sesame Street video about “The Power Of Yet”.

Literacy

We have been trying hard to learn the new sound qu.  Have a look at these words and decide, which ones have I spelled correctly and which ones have a mistake.

qeen

quack

quic

Here are some of my examples of alliteration;

Ten tigers tiptoeing to tea.

Seven sharks swimming slowly.

Numeracy

These were the questions asked this week;

  1. Share 8 sweets equally between 4 people.
  2. Share 9 sweets equally between 3 people.
  3. Share 10 sweets equally between 3 people.

I drew pictures to help me work out the answers.  Drawing pictures is a great strategy to use to help you solve a problem.

1)I worked out that each person would get 2 sweets each.

2) I worked out that each person would get 3 sweets each.

3) I worked out that each person would get 3 each and 1 would be left over.

I hope you had fun this week and learned something new.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget it will be Tuesday next week that the weekly grid will be posted because Monday is a holiday.

Stay safe,

Mrs Currie

P1 Mrs Currie Daily Update 14.05.20

Good morning everyone

It has been excellent to see so many of you logging into sumdog this week to complete the challenge. Remember that your challenge ends on Thursday at 3pm.

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Home Learning Grid

How have you been getting on with sharing objects into equal groups? I found this fun game where you can continue to practise sharing objects into equal groups.

Literacy

This week in our reading and listening and talking activities we were learning about the difference between fiction books and non-fiction books. Did you speak to an adult about the difference between these types of books? Watch the video below to listen to the differences and to play a game about the differences between fiction and non-fiction.

Numeracy

This week we have been learning about halves. Can you use these pictures to split each whole picture into half?

Have an amazing day

Weekly Grid

How are you getting on with logging into our new reading resource?

Please remember your username, password and school code were sent to you via groupcall email.  If you did not receive one please leave a comment here or check out the weekly grid (I have amended it and included details on how to contact myself directly via email) and I’ll send it over to you.

It has been great to see some of you completing the quizzes and book.

Literacy

If you would like to have a story read to you, enjoy listening to and/or reading along with this story. It’s called A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea.

https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/A-hole-in-the-bottom-of-the-sea/

Numeracy

Split each of these numbers in half. Remember that half means put the number into two equal groups.

Have an amazing day
