Good Morning P3!  I hope you are all having a great week.

Core Grid Week 1 P3

How are you getting on with your health and well-being task? Remember to use different colours for different emotions.   We’re looking forward to seeing your emotion characters in your jotters or on the home learning page of your OneNote profiles.

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Numeracy

This week we have been working on addition skills.  Remember your strategies for adding such as  using friendly numbers, using doubles and near doubles, making tens and landmark numbers.  Use these strategies to complete the the special Sumdog Challenge we have set for you, for today only – log in to Sumdog to see the challenge.  Good luck with the challenge!

Literacy

In class we have listened to The Bolds by Julian Clary.  You can listen to the story at home too – I’ve just listened to a chapter and giggled lots!

Click here to listen to the next 2 chapters.  You can download a  Bolds-Colouring  sheet here.

Some questions to think about as you listen are:

  • Who were the real Bolds and what happened to them?
  • Minnie suggests that the Bolds visit a safari park. Why does she suggest this?
  • The Bolds love to laugh at silly jokes. What are your favourite jokes?

Take care.  Thinking of you all.  Mrs Caskie and Mrs Keegan

Learning Overview

Literacy

This week we wrote descriptions of our school bags, with a focus on adjectives and action verbs.  In spelling we consolidated our learning by using our newly-found typing skills to type our words then change size and font.    In Word Boost, our boost words were sink, wreck, consult, rattle, havoc and advice.  We have continued to listen to The Bolds To The Rescue, read by the author Julian Clary, with lots of giggles throughout.  The hardest part of listening to this book, we all agree, is switching off the audio book at the end of each chapter.

Maths

In maths we have learnt about fractions – making and naming equal parts and then identifying equal parts.  Our next step is to name fractions then to count fractions.  Everyone had a great time making fractions, cutting them out then checking their work.

HWB

Our focus this week has been on wider achievements when all the children shared the amazing things that they have achieved outside school – ranging from baking a cake to swimming lengths of the pool!

IDL

Learning on the Vikings continues to engage everyone and we used Mighty Writer to create fabulous imaginative stories about our character, Sam The Viking.  After researching artefacts and discussing sources of evidence everyone designed their own Viking shield. We were surprised to learn that a Viking shield could be a metre wide!

Hand Washing – keep up the hand washing at home and remind your child how to wash their hands correctly.

Keep listening to the fabulous stories on the World Book Day website – click here.

As always, please remind your children to wash their hands carefully.

Learning Overview

We have started our new topic on the Vikings and have worked together to create some exciting learning plans!

We finished our Science topic by writing reports on Alexander Fleming and did a great job self-assessing our work.  Capital letters have been the focus of our handwriting lessons and we’re trying hard to keep our letters neat.

In numeracy we have begun to explore multiplication by multiplying using skip counting and in maths we have investigated measure through weighing a range of objects.

Pupil Voice

Mark – I liked planning our Viking topic.  I really want to learn about the dragons at the front of the Viking ships.  I also enjoyed doing gymnastics in PE.  I liked swinging.

Seren – I liked writing about Alexander Fleming. He was a scientist who discovered penicillin.  We used pink and green highlighters to self-assess our work.

Riley –  I liked coding during Smart Start.  I used digital technology skills.  I also liked skip counting in maths.  We used skip counting to help us multiply.

Home Learning

Keep working on skip counting to 100 at home.  This TopMarks activity is good for developing digital skills whilst the children work on number strategies https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares .

In maths we have been exploring measure by using scales to weigh objects.  Try following a recipe and weighing ingredients to bake or cook.

In Literacy we are working on writing capital letters.  See how many capital letters you can spot when out and about.  Try painting capital letters, drawing capital letters with chalk, making them with pipe cleaners or beads etc.

In Health and Well-Being we are continuing to develop strategies to help us to build resilience.  We know that everyone encounters a wide range of emotions every day.  We have been thinking about ways to help us cope such as breathe in, breathe out, blowing bubbles, going for a walk and art/ colouring in.  Try some of these activities at home and record your learning in your OneNote profile.

Have a lovely weekend.
