Good Morning Primary 3,

It was so lovely to speak to some of you and your families yesterday. You have all been working very hard. I am so proud at how well you managing with your home learning.

I hope you are all enjoying your tasks this week. How are you getting on with finding some examples of tiling? Maybe you could share some of them with us on the blog post or on your online profile.

Here are some additional tasks for you to try this week. Remember these are optional and you do not have to complete these. Make sure you are taking plenty of breaks and not having too much screen time.

Maths

You have been learning about tiling this week. You can make some beautiful tiling patterns. Can you create a card for someone to make them smile with a tiling pattern on the front? You could colour in the pattern using all the colours of the rainbow. This could be for someone at home, a neighbour or someone in your close family or friends.  Here are some examples of a tiling pattern.

How are  you getting on building your own Viking Longboat from junk materials or construction toys such as building bricks?  We are loving seeing the pictures of Longboats that you have uploaded to OneNote already – the creativity is wonderful!

Once you’ve built your boat, perhaps you could  check if it will float.  Think about:

  • does your Viking Longboat meet the design criteria with a  a square sail, a figurehead and oars?
  • does your boat float or sink?
  • how could you improve your design?

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Literacy

Today’s challenge is to complete the P3 Spelling Challenge on Sumdog.  The challenge will help you to learn the weekly spelling words for your group.  Your Sumdog login details are in your home learning jotter.  We love to see your progress on Sumdog!

Maths

Today’s maths task is to try this First Level number talk, from the FVWL RIC Numeracy Academy (they post a new number talk on Twitter every day).    Remember – number talks are all about how you solve a task, mentally.  For this task, you don’t need to use anything to help you, just use your brain.

Look at each number sentence and share the strategy you use to get each answer.  Did you use the same strategy each time?  You can share your strategies with someone at home.  Did they work it out the same way as you?  Share your learning on the blog in the comments box below.

4 + 8 + 2 + 6

1 + 9 + 2 + 8

5 + 3 + 7 + 5

I’m going to start my day with the Joe Wicks workout – what are you going to do first?  Have a lovely day and let us know how you are getting on with your learning.

Take care,

It is  a bit grey and drizzly  this morning but I’m looking forward to seeing all of your amazing work.   Remember that you can record your learning on the home learning page in your OneNote profile or in your jotter.  Each day we check the OneNote profiles and will leave feedback there for you.

How are you getting on with writing your description?  Remember, you can write about a hedgehog, your favourite toy or a pencil case.  Try to include a  title, characteristics and an evaluation.  Don’t forget capital letters and full stops.

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Numeracy

Today we’re going to solve a challenge!  Visit the nrich website for details  – click here.

The problem is that all the numbers have fallen off our class number square and they’re lying in a pile on the floor!  There’s only five minutes to go before school starts and we need the number square.

Can you find a quick way of putting the numbers back in their right places on the grid?

Where will you start?

Use the comments box  below to share your strategy for putting the number square back together.

Literacy

To support your learning in spelling, we have set up a Sumdog Spelling Challenge which will help you to learn the spelling words for your group.  The P3 Spelling Challenge is open today.

Have a lovely day P3.
