Louise: We have all been rehearsing very hard for the 40 th Anniversary Concert.

Matt: We also went to the library at the Lanthorn and we returned our finished books and we were able to choose a new book. we really enjoyed our visit!

Rachel W: We all wrote group poems using Scots language. It was fun listening to all our  poems.

Rachel M: We finished our maths carousel about fractions.

Brandon: We started new task maps for our reading carousel.

Primary 5 Weekly News

We have had another extremely busy week in Primary 5. Here are some of our comments:

Vanessa: I really enjoyed finishing the Picasso pictures. Here are the finished portraits:

We are all really proud of our work!

Brandon: I enjoyed completing the Country Research leaflets in Writing.

Taylor: I enjoyed finishing and presenting our International Week dramas, Power Points and posters to the rest of the class.

Brandon: I really enjoyed the International Week activities too!

Chloe: During our Committee time, the Sports Leaders group were able to design our own games and play them.

Rebecca: We started preparing for the school concert and the two songs we will be singing are ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ from the Toy Story movie and ‘I just can’t wait to be king!‘ from The Lion King movie.

Cole: We are looking at and researching the 1990’s for the school concert.

Beth: We carried on with our gymnastics for our P.E. lessons.

Brandon: In the Health and Well Being Committee we made a Power Point for the ‘Blog of the Month.’

Vanessa: In the Ambassadors Committee people from St Margaret’s Academy came to talk to us about Malawi.

Toni: We talked about our school prayer in the Pupil Leadership Committee.

Lorena: We started our new maths carousel about fractions and division.

Maxx: We learnt that fractions are like division.

Taylor and Brandon: We enjoyed doing our number talks.

Good luck Miss Smyth from P5!

Paige: Today we had an emotional assembly as we said goodbye to Miss Smyth.

Grace: All week we practised a song for Miss Smyth and it really made her smile.

Chloe: Mrs Purdie put up some embarrassing photos of Miss Smyth that made us all laugh.

Maxx: This week we have been working on International Week and we have been learning all about Malawi, Spain and France. You can check it out on Twitter!

Bea: For international week we also did Picasso self portraits. We found out he uses hot and cold colours and he doesn’t make it symmetrical (Toni)

Joseph: We started a new maths topic: Fractions- we have been looking at how to make fractions, played a matching game and we are looking forward to working more on this next week.

Rebecca: Our writing for International week linked to our topic group. We looked at lots of different leaflets for different countries and then we made our own linked to our group’s country.

Beth: In PE we did gymnastics. Our main focus was cartwheels and if you could do it you got to do a double cartwheel.

Thomas: In PE we also had Kieron Achara back in to coach us. He was playing games and races with the ball.

Primary 5 Weekly News

Welcome back everyone and a very Happy New Year!

We have all enjoyed being back at school this week. Here are some of our comments:

Lucas: We had our Happy New Year assembly.

Louise: We started gymnastics in P.E. this week.

Maxx: We started writing our new goals.

Charlie: In Writing we wrote about our New Year’s Resolutions.

Beth: Taylor and I walked around the classroom and looked for links with the Articles from the UN Convention and we shared our thoughts with the whole class.

Matt: As part of our Vision and Values week we talked about our school Vision statement and discussed what qualities we would need to ‘grow in the image and likeness of Christ’ and thought about how those qualities might  influence our Class Charter.

Chloe: We decided to change our Class Charter to different emoji characters for the new term.

I’m a P5 – Get me out of here…for Christmas!!!

We’ve all had another very busy week. Here are some of our comments:

Bea: We had a fabulous time at the Beauty and the Beast Panto. It was really funny.

Vanessa: We enjoyed eating our Christmas lunch this week. It was yummy!

Lorena: We all presented our Christmas class presentations about Christmas around the world. Everyone enjoyed learning about all the different traditions.

Maxx: We had fun learning some Christmas French vocabulary.

Grace: We learnt a new strategy to calculate our division questions.

Toni: We all took part in a Christmas quiz.

We also played some Christmas songs for the class!

P5 – On a Countdown to Christmas!

In writing this week we completed our assessment. It was about one special Christmas Eve when a letter suddenly came down the chimney.  It was a Christmas wish from Santa!

Rebecca: I enjoyed the writing and I  really tried hard to do my best. I hope I will get every box ticked to achieve my goals.

Preston: That was my 2nd favourite piece of writing.

Toni: We had our bake sale on Friday and we hope we raised a lot of money. Thank you supporting us by buying our cakes and sweets.

Kalin: I liked the cakes and I’m glad people bought lots of cakes and sweets.

Lorena:In maths we have been working on a new subject (DIVISION!)Also it really helps us with our times tables.

Chi-Chi: I am excited we are doing division in class because it is interesting to learn.

Beth: I thought division was quite hard but I am going to work hard to understand it.

Bea: On Tuesday we discussed  friendship and made  posters.

We have been thinking about Advent and we are enjoying opening our Advent calendar doors.

P5 Weekly News

Another busy week, here are our comments:

Vanessa: On Thursday Beth, Taylor and I went to Craigswood Sports Centre to take part in a gymnastics competition. Beth’s team came second  and Beth also came second individually. It was very nerve wracking but we all really enjoyed ourselves!

Taylor: We started to create our drama scenes ready for our class assembly.

Toni: In Writing we wrote a refugee diary entry following our Cool to be Kind week.

Matt: In Maths we started to learn about multiplication and division.

Lorena : We all recorded our Walking in a Winter Wonderland Christmas song to be put onto a CD.

We found out that we have raised enough money with our sponsored bounce to invite Kieron Achara back so we are very pleased about that.

Kindness is spreading through P5

This week  we had Cool to be Kind Week. The main focus was Rights and Refugees.

Chi Chi: In class we got a small piece of paper and on it we had to write something kind about someone else in our class or school. We then joined all of the pieces of paper across the school together and made a big Kindness Paper chain which we shared at assembly.

Taylor: Beth, Vanessa and I made a video all about the rights of the refugees.

Chloe: In Science you’ll never believe what we did! We created Carbon Dioxide by using yeast, warm water and sugar. This then blew up a balloon!! It was great Science experiment.

Beth: On Tuesday we went to the library and we learned all about different kinds of books and the library layout. We all got to choose a book to take back to school.

Ethan: As part of our carousel afternoons we made Christmas decorations and we also got art this week with Mrs Thomson.

Cole: We had an achievements assembly celebrating Cool to be Kind week.

Rachel: I won the kindness award for P5. I felt amazing.

Toni: In writing with Mrs Docherty we were writing a Science report. We learned lots of new scientific language. We learned the abbreviation CO2,  all about variables, hypothesis and constants.

Primary 5 Weekly News

We have had a great week! Here are our comments:

Grace: In maths we’ve been continuing our learning about angles.

Chi Chi: Some of us went to Bibleworld and at the quiz corner we learnt about parables.

Kalin: There was also an area where we learnt about Bibleworld in different parts of the world.

Chloe: We looked at an old printer and we printed the Our Father prayer. We also learnt about the planets in space and we had a quiz to complete.

Preston: At the Space part of Bibleworld, there were three pictures, 2 supernovas and the Milky Way.

Vanessa: The rest of us went to visit the Cathedral in Edinburgh and we completed a quiz and had a tour.

Beth: We had lunch at the Gillis Centre and after lunch we listened to the priests who told us all about the life of a priest.

Taylor: We had parents’ evening this week and afterwards we went to the Book Fair and chose a book.

Bea: In writing we learnt about how to use onomatopoeia and we all wrote a poem about fireworks.

Lorena: One of our groups got a new reading book this week called I’m Telling You, They’re Aliens! By Jeremy Strong and we are really enjoying it so far.

Matt: Yesterday we successfully completed our Sponsored Bounce and here are some photos:

As part of the Champions in Scotland program, we hope to have raised enough funds to continue our Elite Sporting Experience by inviting Kieron Achara back to take us for another two fitness sessions.

Primary 5 STEM Week

We’ve had yet another busy week. As part of STEM week we have been learning all about bridges. Here are some of our comments:

Bea: In Drama we used our hands and bodies to make a bridge and think about the strength and forces required.

Taylor: We learnt how to draw the Golden Gate bridge.

Chi Chi: We designed and constructed our own bridges out of straws and we tested them to discover the strongest designs.

Vanessa: We met a famous basketball player this week called Kieron Achara. He came in to take us for our P.E. lesson. We all had a fantastic time and we were all very excited!

Ethan: Some of us were selected to be in the school football team.

Chloe: In R.E. we were singing hymns and we began to plan our Class Mass.
