We are currently practising and embedding the following Spanish phrases throughout the School:

 

What colour tray would you like today?

¿Qué color de bandeja te gustaría hoy?

 

I would like a green/red/blue/grey tray please.

 

Me gustaría una bandeja verde / roja / azul / gris por favor.

Primary 5R Weekly News

This week we have been very busy as usual.

Reading –Well done to Cameron C and Kate who went to Waterstones to get 4 books for the class. The books they chose were: Bad Dad by David Walliams, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, Warrior Cats: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter and Epic Adventures by Tom Gates and Liz Pichon. We can’t wait to read them!

Health and Wellbeing – It was our last week for Bike Ability with our instructor Nic. We were all presented with certificates and badges.

PE – On Monday we were practicing our dribbling in basketball and on Wednesday we were playing football but we couldn’t communicate.

 

Writing – For writing we were doing a recount about our show that we did in February called… “A Blast from the Past!!!” and we had to use lots of past tense verbs. We had to write in paragraphs and   we had to do a title, orientation, sequence of events and a personal comment.

 

Assembly – In assembly we were talking about being resilient. We were talking about a little orange figure called Skipper and how he went through ups and downs in his life. Later in class we discussed how Skipper’s emotions could change throughout a day.

P5R Weekly News

Welcome back to another fantastic week in P5R!

 

PE: We played football on Wednesday and basketball on Monday. We all enjoyed it.

RE: We did RE with Mrs Howley on Wednesday. We made posters about sin, friendship, repentance, and reconciliation.

Bike ability:  In bike ability most of us went out with Nicky, our instructor. We had a slow race.and it was fun!

Reading: We did a reading comprehension where we had to read a couple paragraphs and answer questions.

Maths: We learnt about the temperature of places around the world. We also played a negative number game.

Topic: We wrote about the artist Henri Matisse and made paper collages inspired by his work.

World Book Day: Cameron and Kate will be going to Waterstones to pick two books for our class.

Primary 5R Weekly Update

Welcome back to another fantastic week in P5R!

 

PE – in PE we played Gang Rounders.  Most of the class went to a Basketball festival and we had 3 groups and each group played 6 games. Everyone really enjoyed it and St. Ninian’s did extremely well. We scored lots of goals and we were given a certificate for our school.

Maths­­- in maths we were learning about decimals and fractions – we built decimal towers with cubes and we were looking at mixed numbers, improper fractions and tenths. We also learnt about digital and analogue time and we had to convert different times to 24 hour times. We also played time bingo.

Show – we did 3 performances for our show ”A Blast from the Past” – we all enjoyed taking part, although some of us felt both excited and nervous. All the performances went really well and the audience loved it.

Writing – in writing we are writing a letter about the past like ‘A Blast from the Past’ and we are using tea bags to make the paper look old which we are going to use next week for our writing.

Reading – we did reading comprehensions and we enjoyed reading and answering the questions.

We also had visitors from Norway who came to see the school.

Well done to Emma and Jack who each received Praise Postcards for their outstanding efforts this week!

P5R Weekly Update

Amazing P5R!

 

We have had a very good week in P5R.

P.E

In PE we were doing gymnastics with the P6 class. We were using balances, flight and rotations. We were also playing on the monkey bars, slides and the beam. We were controlling balances using our core and body tension.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

We have done two dress rehearsals this week. We were all very excited but nervous.

MINDFULNESS

Someone came into our school to do mindfulness with us. We all felt calm.

TOPIC

Our new topic is France and we wrote down what we knew and what we want to know. We will start the France topic soon.

READING

We have started a new reading comprehension box. Everyone had a lot of fun. We read a card and then answered questions.

WRITING

In Writing we started to plan a letter to do with our show.

MATHS

In Maths we made a fraction and decimal number line and we played decimal Bingo. This was really fun we also did Number Talks.

Our Maths Champs are Carly and Niamh. Our Playground pals are Brooke, Alexis and Emma.

Four people got chosen to talk about their jotters with Mrs Roy. The people who were chosen were Kate, Cameron C, Orla and Michael.

For a wee while we have another teacher in our class Called Miss Sommerville. She has come to see what we learn.

Primary 5R Weekly Update

Here is a summary of all the activities we have been doing this week:

In PE we did gymnastics and we had equipment and we were using our core to stay in balances.

In Maths we were learning to tell the time on analogue clocks and on the work sheet we were writing the time in digital clocks then we self-assessed.

 

Afterwards we did a literacy carousel and in the carousel we did vocabulary cards, spelling patterns, practised our spelling words then we updated our goals on glow.

 

After that we practised our song words for our show ‘Blast from the Past’ and don’t forget to buy your tickets for the show if you haven’t yet done so and you want to come to see it!

 

On Tuesday the first thing we did was to finish off our carousel.  After break we did some fractions and we used the cubes to make towers and mixed numbers. After lunch for the rest of the day we practised our show.

 

For Wednesday in the morning we did an acrostic poem with Miss Somerville and then in PE we did gymnastics again and we were using muscle tension.

 

After break we went to RE with Mrs Howley and we learned how Jesus is fully man and fully God and the word for it is Divine.

 

After RE we did drama about 2 boys, one called Simon and one called Martin.  They were the main characters and the story was based around friendship.

 

For Smart Start on Thursday we finished off our Credit Union posters for the Credit Union competition.

 

Then we did music. In music we practised our show song with Mrs Smith and we got rated for the songs. We got mostly tens and a couple 9 and a couple 9 ½.

 

After break we worked with our Talk Partners, completing a planning mountain about Martin and Simon. Then we started writing the actual story about them.

After lunch we finished our writing about Martin and Simon.

Today we completed our Spelling tests and then we had another show rehearsal.

Primary 5R Weekly News

This Week in P5R we did the following…

 

In Maths we learned how to find fractions of a quantity and we revised how to tell the time.

 

In R.E. Mrs.Smith came in to watch our R.E. lesson.

 

We had a visitor in our class and they taught us about Robert Burns and his poems.

 

In P.E.  we did gymnastics and we did balances using ladders, ropes and hanging hoops.

 

In Word Boost we made up sentences with our words and we read our Harry Potter book.

 

We also had our show rehearsals and we watched a show at Dedridge Primary School called Pondlife.

 

We had an assembly about our new maths champions and our playground pals. Our maths champions are for people that are interested in maths and the playground pals would need to help buy all the new equipment.

P5R Weekly News

This has been a great first week to start 2019! This is what we have done in amazing P5R  ….

Maths – In Maths this week we were learning some new things about Fractions.

Spanish- In Spanish we learnt how to say the weather in Spanish and the seasons.

PE – In PE with Mrs Reeves we played a game called Rock Paper Scissors Hop and with Mr Mc Curdy we did gymnastics.

Vision and Values week – we discussed the school values and then we recorded videos of people in drama scenes where they were following the values compared with similar scenes where they were not following the values.

Reading – we did a carousel and some people were reading with the teacher and some people doing Spanish handwriting.

Writing – We were writing about our New Year’s resolutions and deciding if we were able to change something we did last year what it would have been.  We were using this idea to help us make our New Year’s resolutions.

R.E – In R.E we had to act out the Magi/ the three wise men following the star to Jesus.

Art – We did a piece of art with Mrs Wassell and it was when you draw an outline of the side of your face and put ideas of things you like in it.

Show – we are practising a show called ‘A Blast From The Past’. Some people are auditioning to have a main part.

Primary 5R Weekly News

This is our news for the week:

 

In Art we made Christmas cards, where we stuck Christmas hats onto photographs of ourselves and then we decorated them and put them as a display on the wall.

We also went to see the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at the Howden Centre and we all got a  free ice cream!

In P.E we did Scottish dancing and it was fun.

In Maths we are still learning about money and we used calculators to add up the amounts spent. We made up our own receipts and then we made up questions to calculate change and we gave them to each other to work out the answers. We also did multiplication and division.

In music we chose our Christmas song.

In writing we wrote a newspaper report about making soap reindeers for the Christmas fair.

We all watched each other’s presentations about famous entrepreneurs, which was really interesting.

In Smart Start we did a Christmas word boost.

And we went to see the nursery nativity.

Today is Christmas Jumper day and it was Christmas lunch on Wednesday.

Another great week in P5R! This is what we have done…

Enterprise Topic

The class made soap reindeers for the Christmas fair this Thursday. Primary 5R and Primary 5D both made 40 reindeers per class so making a total of 80 altogether.

P.E

In P.E we started a new block of  Scottish dancing which we really enjoyed.

Maths

In maths we were learning how to add, divide, multiply and takeaway decimals.

Writing

In writing we did some peer assessment with our new Talk Partners. We looked at our last week’s work which was a ‘Ninian’s News’ report about people living in India, who survive by making paper bags.

Homework

Our homework is about an entrepreneur. We have 2 weeks to prepare a poster or a PowerPoint. Then we will present this to the class.

St Andrew’s Day

We learnt about St. Andrew’s life using a Bible to find the answers to some questions.
