Scotland Week

Scotland Week was another very busy week in Primary 3. On Monday we learned all about St. Andrew, the Patron Saint of Scotland. We enjoyed making Scottish  flags to celebrate his feast day.

Tuesday was the last visit of the year by baby Holly and we were amazed to see her reaching for toys and holding them! Another milestone for her!

Wednesday was exciting as we had a Scottish story telling event which made us laugh.

This week we have been practising our Christmas party dances and we are really doing well with our Virginia Reel, Military Two step, Canadian Barn Dance and the Gay Gordons!

In Maths we have been learning all about shape and we have enjoyed shape quizzes and finding correct shapes to match descriptions. We did 2d shapes and started 3d too!

Tune in for next Friday’s news update!

Another busy week!

Primary 3 have had another very busy week. Here are a few highlights:

We were dancing to a keep fit counting in fives you tube clip! We lasted all the way to one hundred while having fun dancing.

We were spelling using our spelling pyramids and we had alien spelling where we had to teach a visiting alien how to spell our words and recognise patterns in them! This was a fun activity!

We loved our Maths activities where we had to partition 2 (and 3) digit numbers into (hundreds), tens and units! We played great smart board games and these helped with our learning.

This week was Road Safety Week and we enjoyed cutting and pasting sentences about crossing the road safely, making sure we got them in the correct order!

We had great fun at the Travel by Tuba event and we learned all about how sounds were made through tubas!

Photos to follow!

Stay tuned and happy weekend

Linking the Learning is one of the phrases we like to use in class. We linked our writing with our interdisciplinary topic:Planet Earth, Sun and Moon. Children had to persuade an alien to come to visit Earth. Lots of enthusiasm was generated after watching the trailer clip from the move E.T.
We also linked the learning when we made papier mache planets! What a messy activity this has proved to be, but worth every minute as this work in progress is coming along nicely.
We had a visit from the SSPCA and the children learned that they should contact the SSPCA if they find certain animals in danger.
We made another link here with the introduction of Ed the duck to our class. Ed is helping the children to spell past tense verbs correctly, by adding “ed” to the ending.
Maths has been very active and the children loved the round the class snake game which challenged them to work as a team and beat the timer whilst making up 3 digit numbers with place value cards.
We had a visit from our class baby, Holly, and she was able to smile and react more to the children now that she is 20 weeks old!
To round off the week, Filip rang our Golden Time Bell which means tidy up for home time!

Happy weekend, hope you like this week’s pics!

Fly me to the moon!

Thank you to everyone at home for supporting your children with their topic homework menu. The space rockets, fact files, alien pictures and postcards are fantastic! Keep them coming!

We wrote letters to John Lewis this week, to tell them what we thought about their new Christmas advert featuring the man on the moon. Here is a mixture of some of the sentences for you to enjoy:

Dear John Lewis, I want to know if you live on the moon? Are you a real man on the moon or are you an alien dressed up as a grandpa? Is the man on the moon the little girl’s grandad? How does the old man breathe? I am going to give my grandad a lovely Christmas. I am writing about your advert because I am learning about the moon. I liked your video because it made happy tears come out of my eyes. I could go to the moon and we could meet each other! When you look down to Earth is it scary? If I was you I would try to go to Planet Earth. Is the grandad in Heaven?

Hope you enjoy this lovely insight into the imaginations of your children!

Happy weekend,

Mrs Howley
