Visit from The Dog Trust

We had a very special visitor this morning: Emma from The Dog Trust. Emma brought along her furry friend, Harry, to teach us all about looking after dogs and how to be safe around them.

Emma chose some enthusiastic volunteers from our class, to help show everyone how we should treat dogs. Here are a few photos of our class helpers!

Kyle learned how to use a stethoscope and how to spray the dog to prevent fleas. Aaron learned how to check a dog to find out if it has been micro-chipped. Patryk learned that he should ask the owner before patting a strange dog.

World Book Day Fun in P2/3

What a lovely bunch of children arrived for school dressed as their favourite book characters! Some of the costumes included Spiderman, Daisy, Harry Potter, Elena, Hermione, Cinderella, Ninja turtle, a boy called Luke, Rapunzel, Trolls, Elsa, an evil queen, Snow White, Mall, Captain America, Sleeping Beauty, and even The Worst Witch!

Oma said she enjoyed making her flying carpet, which would fly her to Heaven! Chloe wanted hers to fly her to America, Alishba’s, Dominic’s and Matthew’s carpets would fly them all to London! Harry wanted to fly one thousand times around the Earth on his, and James wanted to go to the other side of the World! Maeve wanted to fly to Austria!

Some children made old women in vinegar bottles who had to  make a wish to a fairy, to be released. Carly wished to go to Disneyland, Zuzanna wished to have a horse as she always dreams about horses, Calvin wished he could drive a motorbike, Maya wished for an electric scooter and Michelle wished she had sparkly shoes.

Other children made balloons which would fly them away. Aaron wanted to fly to New York city, Annayah wanted to fly to London to see her Grandma, Kasia wanted to fly to Poland to see her friends and her Grandma, and Rachel wanted to visit the Queen in London.

Others designed their own robots which could do different things. Levente’s robot could fly, Andrew’s could breathe fire, Kuba’s could dance, Pawel’s could shoot laser beams from it’s eyes, Brooke’s could bring her food and Angel’s could say phone numbers out loud and call people for her.

All the children showed great imagination with their activities. Hope you enjoy some of our photos!

Hello from P2/3!

This week we enjoyed a variety of activities with Mrs Keegan, Mrs Howley and Mrs Thomson. We made beautiful ferris wheel pictures with Mrs Thomson in Art. They were very sparkly!

Here are some of the things the children said about this week’s learning:

Brooke said, “I like having a change  with Mrs Howley and Mrs Keegan.”

Michelle said, “I love doing carousels.”

Aaron said, “I liked doing a letter to Amber Rudd for refugee children to stay safe.”

Maeve said, “I liked singing Feliz Navidad and singing a solo for the CD recording.”

Alishba said, “We get hard questions in Numbertalks and I like trying to answer them.”

Matthew said, “I love doing the Nativity practice.”

Everybody has worked really hard this week and all deserve their Dojo and House points!

The great Scots were actually all the children! After a lot of hard work performing and rehearsing together, the show proved to be a great success. Thanks to everyone who helped with all the preparations.

A few other highlights of the week:

PE : practising turns and balances on the apparatus and using a camera with a delayed timer so that we could all see our own moves!

Spelling: learning magic e rule, ai and oa sounding words, using letter cubes to wordbuild, playing dice games to help spelling

Reading: reflective reading about the life of Robert Burns and enjoying extracting facts about his life from a passage

Writing: we wrote about our school show, what we liked, how we felt and what other people said about it,

Art: designing our own tartans, drawing Robert Burns step by step and using an online tutorial on how to draw a rose

Outdoor Learning: Mr Hunter took us outside again and we were intrigued to learn what a fank is! If you don’t know, ask the children!

National Youth Choir of Scotland: this session was fun and we even used a huge parachute while singing at the same time!

Maths: sequencing to 1000 and partitioning 3 and 4 digit numbers

Hope you enjoy the photos,

Adios for this week,

Mrs Howley and P3

A Fun Week in P3!

Fun activities have featured in class this week! We have been devoting lots of time to our Burns’ Night show practices and the excitement has been building as the big day approaches. We have had 2 dress rehearsals this week, one for the 3 classes involved and today we performed for the whole school. No stage fright at all as we have become such confident performers! Here’s to next week, you will be in for a treat!

In Maths we have continued practising our counting beyond 100 up to 1000. We have played smartboard games and we had fun using an online flip-counter which helped us. Here is the link:

http://www.ictgames.com/flipCounter/index.html

We also had fun dancing to a 5 times table song. We enjoyed the activity as it helped us to learn this table through singing and dancing. We all have our own personal tables challenge sheets now, and Mrs Howley will only give us a times tables sticker if we can recite our tables fluently as well as correctly!

In Spelling we were learning nk and ng ending words. Fun activities included spelling using whiteboards, making spelling word pyramids and bending pipecleaners into letters to spell our words, as well as take photos of them using our class iPad!

In writing we had an exciting, fun time when a huge bag of tartan materials, clan badges and a shoebox filled with tartan ties all arrived in class! This generous donation came from Alexander’s gran who has a kilt shop. Everybody in class got their own piece of tartan and we had to describe it, including colours, shapes, materials and designs. After writing down our ideas on whiteboards, we wrote on our writing templates and these will become a new wall display in class. It was great fun having real materials to touch and see, especially as they were then going to be used for the school show. How lucky are we?

We rounded off the week with our first Skills Academy classes. These included Spanish games and songs, First Aid, Hungry for Success, Animal Care, Team Building challenges, Messy Play and Creation Station. Hope you like a few of our photos from this week. Have a fun weekend,

Mrs Howley and P3001 023 024 034 036 037 038 053 054 060 066 067 068

P3’s super week!

After our first 5 day week back, we can see that our show rehearsals are starting to come together very nicely. Please keep practising our class song, My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, and keep practising lines at home too!

In Maths we have been counting up in 2s and 3s, 4s and 5s and recognising missing number patterns. We found different ways to help us with our counting, including using cubes and drawing tally marks. We have also been revising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We have our own tables challenge sheets and when we know each table very well, we can sign it ourselves, bring it back to be tested and receive a time stable sticker from Mrs Howley. In Spelling we have been revising word patterns covered last term and we even chose our own challenging words from our reading books to write sentences with.

We have been busy with pupil planning and linking the learning for our new topic, Scotland. We have our own pupil planning wall which shows what we already know and what we would like to learn more about.  This means we are helping our teacher to plan exciting lessons for us!

We have been learning all about the life of Robert Burns. This has been a popular choice for interdisciplinary learning, as this is the focus for our Burns’ Supper show. This week our writing was all about the life of Robert Burns and we really enjoyed remembering the facts and writing them in sentences. We also enjoyed reading the song words for our Red Red Rose song, looking for rhyming words and repetitions of phrases.

In PE we have been enjoying gymnastics and learning basic floor skills on mats before we progress to the apparatus!  In Music, Mrs Steele revised our Burns’ Night songs which she has been teaching us.

We also got a surprise visit from baby Holly from the Roots of Empathy session. We were able to see lots of differences in her since her last visit. Holly was able to sit up on her own and she enjoyed  listening to us singing our class song to her!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Happy New Year from P3

What a busy first week back after our Christmas break! P3, along with P3/4 and P4 have been very excited about our forth-coming Great Scots play for Burns’ Night. We enjoyed getting together with the other classes and we have been practising our lines and our songs for the show. 2 weeks to go and we are buzzing with excitement!

We are very grateful for your help with costumes for us, and supporting us with learning our lines. No photos for this week, as we will keep them until after the performance!

Happy New Year,

Mrs Howley

One week to go! Ho! Ho! Ho!

009 014 037 041 066 070 071 072 073This week we have been experts at 3d shapes. We can name shapes and find out how many corners, edges and faces they have.  Joshua: We did a class survey to find out which shape was our favourite, and most people liked the pyramid the best!

Mirren: We are doing a Spanish song next Friday at assembly. It is called los peces en el rio. I have been practising it at home. It is on youTube.

Finlay: We have been learning about the Nativity story and we had to find missing words from the story so that the sentences made sense.

We came to school today dressed as our future jobs. We were doctors, nurses, vets, footballers, a policewoman, a farmer, a ballerina, a VIP, a youTuber, a hairdresser, a hotel worker,  Santa sleigh ride helpers, artists, a baker, a rugby player and a soldier!

Batshewa: We are on the second purple candle of our class Advent wreath. I helped to paint the pink candle. It looks beautiful.

Aidan and Louise: We have been writing this week about going for a ride on Santa’s sleigh. Ho! Ho! Ho! Louise: I think my story was really good because I got to help Santa make his way to all the houses. Aidan: I loved seeing all the presents for all the children.

Happy weekend everyone,

P3 and Mrs Howley
