P7 News

Another jam packed week for P7!

As we are getting to know each other better, and our new role as P7 pupils, we have completed our class charter this week – these are the promises we have made to ourselves, and each other, to help our classroom be a READY, RESPECTFUL, SAFE learning space.

Aren’t our characters and posters awesome?

We are loving our class novel – WONDER. This week we have been exploring character study tasks of the main characters. We also learned what a precept was – maybe you and your child could come up with one for your family?

Unofficial homework for next week is to have a go at playing a maths game called TENS! which is downloadable as a free app! The score to beat is 899 at the moment.

I can’t wait to meet all of the parents/carers/brothers/sisters at the Meet the Family night on Thursday 12th Septemer 6-7pm 🙂

Pupil Voice;

Brooke – Show Racism the Red Card was good because it tells you what racism actually is and its helpful to know about it. The best bit was the matching game where we had to match a face with a description.

Mirren – This week was the house captains first meeting. We are doing a house captain assembly next week and hopefully we do well!

Samuel – I enjoyed redrafting my letter for the time capsule because I am looking forward to seeing what future me thinks about it in June 2020. Hopefully it’ll come fast.

Marcella – I enjoyed reading the novel but it was sad at some times. Auggie is my favourite character.

Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

P7 Weekly News

Welcome back Primary 7!

What busy week we have had this week!

Buddying

Buddies have been supporting our P1 pupils on their first days of primary school this week. In addition to the P1 pupils greeting their buddies with big smiles, both the parents and staff have also commented on what a wonderful support they have been in this time of change! Well done buddies!

Prefecting

Whilst the buddies have been kept busy we have had a wee team of interim prefects making sure everything else is running smoothly – thanks to this bunch for helping the staff to keep things ticking over this week! Prefecting contracts are due back by WED 28th AUG 🙂

Feel free to follow our adventures on twitter @ https://twitter.com/mrs_conway10

See you all next week!

Primary 6 Weekly News!

What a week for our boys and girls of P6 this week!

Some of the biggest news of the week came in the form of house captain elections! As the P4, P5 and P6 classes split into their house teams there was an air of anticipation in the school… The staff were blown away by the confidence of our young people and the fantastic communication skills they displayed in delivering their presentations to their peers. There were stickers, tshirts, imovies, sways, PowerPoint- the lot. Mrs Purdie announced the new captains and vice captains at the assembly that afternoon – we are delighted to congratulate Evie, Jan, Mark, Brooke, Adrin, Mirren, Joseph and Marcella and wish them every success in their roles next year.

Some of our other candidates were understandably disappointed but we spoke about the work we have been doing to ‘build resilience’ and took comfort in the other roles and responsibilities we will have as the Primary 7 cohort next year! It was lovely to see how supportive and compassionate our children are in this situation.

As if we thought any news would be bigger than the house captain elections…….. but Mrs Purdie has only gone and won the headteacher of the year award!! The boys and girls are SO excited for her (as you could see on our Twitter video) and couldn’t wait to congratulate her in person!

In amongst all this excitement, some of our pupils completed the west Lothian schools triathlon event at Dean’s CHS which resulted in them receiving a wonderful medal! We also had lots of fun with our P1 buddies on their induction days on Tuesday and Wednesday!

Next week is wellbeing week – we have been tasked with the challenge of learning hand massage to deliver to the rest of the school over the course of the week – make sure to ask for yours on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend!

Zayah; I found PE tricky because I got tired…

We were delighted to welcome so many of our parents and carers to our Global Goals showcase this week! We will be working next week to upload the videos to our One Note profiles so you can access these at home if you weren’t able to make it on thursday!

P6 talked today about being connected – as we learn about Building Resilience Mrs Purdie has asked that all children bring in a photo or drawing of their ‘champion’ – a family member who looks out for them, helps them etc 🙂

Enjoy the long weekend!

P6 News!

A busy week in P6!

On Monday we enjoyed some athletics games for PE including ‘rock, paper, scissors, chase’ – we are building our skills in movement and will be looking forward to our P6 cross country event later in the month!

In Number talks, we have been looking at multiplication. Mrs Conway has been learning so many new strategies from the class – her mind has been blown! We are spotting patterns and simplifying problems to help us find our answer. This will continue over the next few weeks.

In Word Boost we made connections through creating posters which gave a description of selected words using words and pictures. Can you child remember any of our boost words?! Are they starting to use any advanced vocabulary at home? Leave a comment to let us know:)

We are really excited about our Global Goals showcase (Thurs 16th May) and spent lots of time this week working with our groups to come up with ideas for our imovies! If you want to chat about the global goals at home a good starting g point t is to watch this video as a family;

As we reflected on our week some of the class shared their highlights;

Sean – our global goals work…

Jan – learning about divisibility in maths…

Sam – athletics, high jump with Mr mccurdy

Mrs Conway – that we managed to clean the filter on the projector and it stayed on for longer than ten minutes at a time…..

Next week (short week!) we are going to be working on finishing our global goals presentations and updating our OneNote profiles! We will also be saying cheerio to Mrs Kerr as she finishes on Thursday for her maternity leave đź’š

Nursery News

What a busy week for St Ninian’s nursery!

Our boys and girls are really embracing our new word boost words and trying hard to understand them. There have been lots of lovely thoughts and ideas of what words mean and how they sound, this is growing week by week! The word boost words for this week were;

CREAK

DISCOVER

GIGGLE

SHIVER

Please support your child’s learning at home by using these words regularly and encouraging them to be adventurous with their vocabulary 🙂

Moving on from the word boost work this week – the children showed interest in making words and letters out of wool. Some children even moved on to using the sounds they know to spell out the word ‘LUV’ – fantastic ways to experience and experiment with early phonics!

Our welly wednesday was a focus on finding signs of spring on the back of the very UN-Scottish weather we have experienced this week (which has been a welcomed delight!).  We found lots of green shoots and some pockets of colour that made us very happy! We also had a chat about picking flowers after seeing some had been picked and left lying.. we decided to rescue them and bring them back to nursery to put them in water! We seen a duck wandering through the trees which sparked lots of questions; what is it doing? Where is it going? More than all of this – we continue to learn to be responsible in our local environment on Welly Wednesday – taking opportunities to keep ourselves and others safe.

On Thursday we had a great time working with P5 in gym where we were learning to make baskets with our hands to catch a various assortment of items. We love working with P5 and learned a new term ‘underarm throw’, when we threw things back to our friends in P5.

Friday always comes around too quickly – but we went to the hall and had fun being dingle dangle scarecrows, using our bodies in different ways to flip, flop and wobble.

PEEP class this involved meeting our new puppet – an old lady (not Mrs Beattie…) who was telling us all about her eating habits! Swallowing spiders, flies… sounds yummy, no? We learned a Spring song and banged a big drum in time to share with everyone how special we are and our own name. We love PEEP – Bang, Bang, Bang!

Have a lovely weekend!

P3 Weekly Round Up!

We have been so busy this week! Between pantos and Christmas lunches we have even managed to squeeze in creating our own books, like the fantastic authors we are!

Our photos this week were taken on Friday morning as we worked as a class team to make up our Mighty Writer mat! We can’t wait to start building Mighty Writer sentences next week, this will be the primary resource we will use in our story writing sessions next term 🙂 the boys and girls were a fantastic help – great job team!

Next week we will enjoy our Christmas singalong with the rest of the school – here is a link to our song, please practice at home as a family so we are sounding like a choir of angels by next week :D:D

Have a fantastic weekend -we hope to see you all on MONDAY at our book launch 🙂

P3 Weekly Round Up!

Wow! This week has gone by in a flash!

Some highlights of our week have included…

Our Achievement assembly! Mr McCurdy presented this very special whole school assembly on Wednesday to tell us all about our schools fantastic achievement of our School Sports GOLD award! Our very own Sophie was included in this assembly too for a fantastic swimming achievement! Please remember to send in any of your child’s achievements from outside of school.. these can be for anything your child has learned to do or anything they have taken part in that has made you proud of them!

We are VERY proud of P3 for their enthusiasm for our Enterprise stall – the lollipop tombola! We spent the week getting organised for the Christmas fair on Thursday night – with everyone in the class having a part of the creation of our lollipop stall! We did everything from scratch – and our stall was run completely on donations from our parents and carers! A huge THANK YOU from us to you 🙂

We started by making posters to entice people over to our stall – bright colours, only a few words and phrases – we hope you were impressed when you seen them! Next job was painting the donated shoe boxes – they looked fab by the time they were finished! We counted the prizes, then split them across our four table groups. Two children from each group were responsible for colouring the ends of 31 lollies for their table – to correspond with their 31 prizes! The prizes were added to boxes of shredded paper for the special lucky dip factor. Two helpers from each table took responsibility for making holes in their tables box by using a hammer and a nail! This was very exciting and the safety conscious pupils made sure they were wearing safety specs and high vis vests! Once this was all done it was time to fill the holes with lollies and get the boxes ready for the fair! A fantastic enterprising experience for our children and one which made around ÂŁ58 on the night! Well done P3!

Unfortunately as the weather has taken a turn for the worse (thanks Storm Diana!) we have had to adapt our daily mile routine! We enjoyed following a Body Coach schools workout on Wednesday – raising our heart rate and boosting our fitness… And on Friday we enjoyed a Go Noodle workout, finishing with a great breathing exercise to calm us into being ready for Number Talks!

Our usual timetable had to alter slightly this week due to preparation for the Christmas fair and the completion of our Oral Book Review solo talks – we are looking forward to business as usual next week… especially quality time with our reading groups! 🙂

Thank you for your continued support! 24 sleeps until Santa 🙂
