Primary 4 weekly update!

We have had an amazing week learning about The Titanic. We have learned some fascinating facts and enjoyed using the internet to do some research about the passengers, dates and survivors. Our very own ‘Queen of the Ocean’ is now complete! What do you think?

We followed in the footsteps of Shoo Rayner and created Titanic sketches using pencil to sketch and shade.

In numeracy we have been learning about estimating and rounding. We know that estimating is when you make a sensible guess by rounding numbers to the nearest ten.

In writing this week, we made annotated diagrams of The Titanic. We were able to label all the different parts of the ship including the Marconi room, engine and boiler room and The Grand Staircase.

Thank you for reading our weekly update!

We hope you have a great weekend,

The Dream Team!

Teamtastic week in P4!

We have had a great week in Primary 4! We have been busy learning about the Titanic and fulfilling our mission. The Titanic is almost complete! We have been learning about the size and structure of the ship and had to use measure to design our very own display!

In writing, we made posters to advertise our ‘Queen of the Ocean’! Keep your eyes peeled for them when you next visit the school! We used rhetorical questions to capture our audience’s attention. I mean, would you like to go on the Titanic’s Maiden Voyage? Would you like a trip of a lifetime?

In maths, we have been learning how to add 10, 100 and 1000 onto whole numbers! After a little explanation, it was actually much easier than we thought! We enjoyed taking on the role of the teacher and quizzing Miss Diamond!

In Literacy we were punctuation detectives. We learned about the importance of punctuation and how it can change the meaning if it is put in the wrong place. We used magnifying glasses to search our reading books for different punctuation including exclamation marks, question marks, full stops and speech marks! Quiz us at home when we next do reading!

Have a great weekend, P4 and Miss Diamond

Primary 4 News Round!

We have had a short but busy week in Primary 4!

We have been celebrating International day of Peace as a whole school this week. We made pointillism dove paintings and had a minute of silence to think about those who are not experiencing peace in their lives at the moment. images

We have received another brown envelope this week! Aidan had his eye on the ball and as soon as Mrs Black entered the classroom with the mail he recognised straight away that it was linked to or mission! The envelope had the next part of our mission enclosed. We have been asked to ‘raise the Titanic from her watery grave’! We can’t wait to get involved in our mission! Keep your eyes peeled for the next part of our mission!

We have created a class newspaper with ‘Breaking News’ about the Unsinkable ship! Feel free to have a read the next time you visit our classroom.

We have been much more enthusiastic this week during our daily mile after we decided to set ourselves a time challenge!

Thank you for reading our blog post. Have a lovely weekend, Primary 4 and Miss Diamond!

Exciting times in Primary 4!

We have been learning about Saint Ninian and celebrated his feast day with a whole school mass today. We made our very own stained glass window for this special day.

In maths we have been learning about numbers to 10,000. We have learned about place value, ordering and sequencing.

We hope yoou have a great holiday weekend, Miss Diamond and P4!

A fabulous week for P4

We have been busy all week in Primary 4!

Our favourite part of this week’s learning was creating our very own dream jars using water, food colouring and glitter! This was all fun and games until it ended with a splash!

“I made a nightmare!” – Mark

“My dream is a good dream!” – Haseeb

“I made a happy dream!” – Aoife

In writing, Miss Diamond and Mrs Purdie tricked us into believing our playtime was being cut from 15 minutes to 5 minutes! We wrote letters to Mrs Purdie expressing our thoughts and feelings about this change! Thankfully, it was just a joke!

We worked in teams when learning about sentence structure and had a race to see which group could unjumble the sentences first!

In maths we have been learning all about multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100! We were all very good at it. We really enjoyed making our own maths games!

“It was awesome!” – Lauren

“I was so close to getting a full score!” – Joshua

Have a nice weekend, Miss Diamond and P4!

The Dream Team – Primary 4

Our first full week in P4 has been filled with fun. One of our favourite highlights was making our very own dream catchers! This proved to be very tricky but we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The BFG is getting very exciting! Sophie almost got eaten by the Blood Bottler and The BFG has been teaching her all about frobscottle and whizzpoppers! This caused lots of hilarity in our classroom.

We wrote imaginary stories in writing this week all about our dreams. We had dreams about all sorts of exciting things! Here are a few of them:

Adrin dreamt about Zombies, Evie dreamt about a unicorn, Mark dreamt about a haunted mansion and Shannon dreamt about becoming a gymnast.

In maths, we have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand and learning all about fact families. We made posters to teach the younger children the rules of rounding and enjoyed recording one another answering rounding questions on the ipads. We could teach you a thing or two about numbers using our fact family skills!

Have a great weekend, The Dream Team :)!

The Dream Team in Primary 4!

We have had a fantastic first week in Primary 4! The Dream Team have enjoyed reading the BFG which is our chosen novel for our novel study this term! One of our favourite activities was painting a picture of the BFG using the description given in the book.  We particularly enjoyed learning about the author of The BFG, Roald Dahl.

We have been creating ‘selfies’. We drew self-portraits and wrote a short personal summary about ourselves.

To ensure everyone feels safe and is happy in P4, we made our class charter. We designed a strip for ‘The Dream Team’ to wear as we have decided that teamwork makes the dream work! We are all in the same team in our classroom!

We have introduced the number of the day board this week. This is to develop our mental maths skills. We have a mild, spicy and hot option to choose from, the hot option is VERY tricky!

We hope you have a great weekend,

The Dream Team.

The end is near!

So we are almost at the end of Primary 1! We can’t believe it! We have made lots of great friends and have made super memories along the way!

Some of our favourite memories have been:

“When me, Wojciech and Lennon were being fox ninja’s” – Leo

“When the egg appeared in our classroom and we filmed it to find out what it was and it was a dragon!!!” – Chloe

“When we made chocolate cakes for Easter” – Vanessa

“When we had the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk” – Lennon

“When we watched the video of the fire blowing Dragon!” – Wojciech

“We got to see Treasure Island” – Maja

“All the fun we have had during golden time!” – Lilly

These are just a few of our cherished memories!

Primary 1 has taught us that ‘Teamwork makes the Dream work!”

Have a great weekend, P1D and Miss Diamond.

Another fun filled week in P1D!

The end of term may be near but in Primary 1D the learning is still going strong! We had a great start to the week when we had a Judo workshop! It was great fun working with a partner and you would be surprised how strong we are for being so small!

In maths, we have been revisiting addition and subtraction as it has been a while since we covered that in P1! Miss Diamond was blown away with how much we had remembered and how we were able to share different strategies that we used to work out the answers! Marcus enjoyed taking on the role of the teacher in our bingo game.

We enjoyed learning about minibeasts recently and linked this to our art this week! We made minibeast finger print gardens! These will be coming home at the end of term but here is a sneaky peek!

To end the week, we had our final Primary 1 Ninian’s Natter! We had one group correcting any green for growths in our writing jotters, one group completing our Learner’s Journeys and one group choosing something to work on using the iPad’s!

A VERY exciting time for us was finding out our new classes and who was going to be our new teachers!!

Have a great weekend, Miss Diamond and P1D!

What is your guesstimate?

We have had a different week in P1D as we had to vacate our classroom for the nrsery boys and girls to use it for transition! We were mainly based in the school hub and loved being on the big chairs! We all stayed very focussed and learned lots of new things!

In maths we have been learning about estimation and measure! Some of us found it very tricky when trying have a guess as we didn’t want to get it wrong but by the end of the week we were brilliant at it!

In literacy we have been doing end of term assessments on all of the sounds we have learned during P1! We have been practising word building and spelling our tricky words too. In Reading we have been reading about minibeasts! We loved the story about ‘Superworm’. One of our favourite ativities was reading the descriptin of a minibeast and finding the matchig picture! We wrote stories about minibeasts and had to give clues about who we were, can you guess what Lennon wrote about… ‘I have colourful wings and I am beautiful. I fly from flower to flower. What am I?’

In PE we had some extra practise at running using the track in preperation for sports day but have also been learning how to play rounders! This was a real challenge last week but this week we were fab at it! Team work makes the dream work in P1D!

Have a great weekend, Miss Diamond and P1D!
