Last year we received £63,000 funding from the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund to help close the poverty related attainment gap.
We used this money to:-
- Have an extra support for learning teacher (Mrs Scott) to provide extra literacy and numeracy support in all classes
- Employ a Polish Pupil Support Worker to support children who are learning English
- Run a PEEP (family learning) class for parents and nursery children
- Reduce the cost of after school clubs, camps and trips
- Employ a Speech & Language therapist to work with identified groups of children from nursery – P3
- Provide high quality professional learning for all staff.
- Purchase new writing resources for P1-7 to improve children’s attainment in writing
- Employ an extra teacher to support us with Number Talks across P1-7
- Purchase a numeracy home learning kit for P2-4 pupils – these will be launched in August
- Purchase new netbooks and iPads for each class
We will receive £60,000 PEF funding this year.
What do you think our school should STOP, START and CONTINUE to do to help all our children make progress and to support all families?

Have an extra support for learning teacher for all classes
Run peeps class
Purchase new writing resources for children p1-p7
– A wellbeing teacher to continue mindfulness sessions and teach children how to maintain good mental health
– Classroom assistants
– Digtal resources
– Continue to reduce cost of trips
Stop-nothing if possible, so many of these extra resources are invaluable.
Start-Peeps for infant class levels to continue building the children’s confidence and to help engage parents with their children’s new school journey.
Continue-extra support for learning teachers and pupil support workers to maintain a strong network to assist class teachers. The best resources are the human ones.
We could invest in new books. Some are old, tired, damaged or out of date in terms of content. We could also look to update, refurbish or expand the garden to encourage more outdoor play, appreciation of nature and the wider environment.
Stop nothing if at all possible
Continue to invest in staff and more one to one support for children who are struggling
Start – workshops for wellbeing, emotional intelligence and positive mental health for the children, techniques and strategies for building resilience, transition packs for P7s moving to high school Containing essential items for learning
Stop nothing if possible, new books and other learning tools and someone to do more with the children in well being, mindfulleness, yoga, tai chi,Pilates or similar so that the children learn relaxation techniques to use when feeling stressed e.g. exams etc
🚦Start more after school clubs, especially some that focus on mindfulness, yoga, quiet activities (instead of more sport/high impact ones)
🚦Continue with the fabulous awareness of ACES and implementing strategies to support individuals with their own awareness. Growing the St Ninians family with wonderful events
🚦Stop …. can’t think of anything 🤔
