P2 weekly blog!

Ahmad- We have been playing the fractions pizza game again this week. We had to read the challenge cards and then cover the pizza with ¼ or ½ of which ever topping it asked for.

We have been learning about the link between halves and quarters.

Angelina- If there is 12 cubes and you find half of the 12 cubes then you will get 6 then you need to half the 6 which gives you 3 and that would be 1 quarter of the 12 cubes.

Leo- We have been finding 1 quarter of a shape. We need to be careful because not all shapes with 4 parts are cut into quarters because they aren’t the same size.

Wojciech- I really liked our writing lesson this week because we had to describe a creature/animal which our special cloud made.”

This video clip was a great stimulus for writing and we had a fantastic discussion about the images from the clip before we started which helped us to understand the story.

Julia- “I thought the video was really funny because 1 of the clouds was different from all of the other clouds. This cloud was grey and I think it was grey because it felt sad about giving the stork only dangerous animals.”

Here is the clip so that you can watch this at home.

This week we had a special visit from the fire service who came to talk to us about their job and how to stay safe if there is a fire.

Angelina- “They showed us their special uniform which keeps them safe if they have to enter a burning building.”

Alice- “They told us that the red hose is used for big fires and the black hose is used for smaller fires.”

Poppy- “We all got a turn of sitting in the fire truck and I got to sit in the front seat.”

Lennon- “We all got to use the black hose, it was really powerful and we had to try to knock down a cone. The fire fighter told us we used up all the water in the black hose.”

We loved our visit from the fire fighters because they taught us so much and we would love to have another visit from them because it was fun to go into the truck and use the hose.

We discussed Global Goal 7 this week which was Affordable and Clean Energy. We watched a video which taught us that some children in other countries have no electricity for cooking or lights.

After watching the video we thought about what we use energy for and categorised this into heating, cooking and leisure. It is important to save energy by turning things off if we are not using them.

The Rights Respecting School visitors came to see us this week to talk to the children in our school about their rights and responsibilities. Marcus went to discuss what we have been learning about our rights and responsibilities in class.

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and Primary 2!
