P2 weekly news

We have begun learning about fractions this week.

Angelina- “We know that if a shape is in quarters that it is in 4 parts.”

Filip- “If the shape is cut into quarters each quarter has to be the same size.”

Leo- “I know that 2 quarters is the same as 1 half”.

Kyle- “If a shape has 2 parts they can only be a half of the shape if the parts are the same size.”

This week we have been ticking the shapes with halves and shading in 1 half. We will continue learning about fractions next week.

In reading this week we read a piece of text about what Doctors do and then we had to answer the questions to show our understanding of what we read. We had to write our answers in sentences so that it made sense.

In writing this week we wrote a re-count of our favourite parts of health week. Our success criteria included using conjunctions to help our writing flow. We all feel much more confident about using conjunctions in our writing.

In drama this week we had to use different expressions for different roles. We took on the roles of different people who would help us in the community. Our peers had to guess the role and give us feedback on our use of expressions and our actions. We also discussed global goal 5 which is Gender Equality, we reflected on the job roles and whether they were for males, females or both.

At first most of us thought a fire officer was a boys job and a nurse was a girls job.

However Miss Boyes has explained that the job roles for People Who Help Us in the community can be for males and females and that everyone should be given equal opportunities to apply for jobs no matter what their Gender is.

In art with Mrs Young we have been making beautiful flowers.

Ana- “To do this you need to have four hand prints with a mosaic pattern and scissors to cut the hands shapes out.”

Marcus- “You have to colour In the mosaic pattern and then you join the hands together to make a flower.”

Miss Boyes has put our flowers up in the classroom and they make a lovely display.

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and Primary 2!

  1. Fantastic to know that you are learning about gender equality and the importance of breaking down gender stereotypes and knowing that gender should not be a barrier to opportunity !!

  2. Your writing lesson this week looked really exciting using the cloud to create your own creatures. I am also delighted to see that P2 recognise that all jobs are open to everyone and so the sky is the limit!
