P6 are going around and around…

This week saw a focus in maths on rounding whole numbers.

We used number lines to model our thinking and represent our work. This pictorial way of showing thinking is really important.

Then we thought about why we round numbers, where is it used in real life? We learnt that in Australia they do not have 1c and 2c coins, so prices have to be rounded if you pay in cash. We used real Australian coins to show what coins would be needed when shopping.

We also made use of our ICT resources to practise rounding whole numbers using the “Frog Flies” game.

On Thursday we then used our rounding skills to do it all backwards……

We got our new reading books this week too. So many stories from other cultures. P6 are really focussing on diversity in our world.

With Leader in Me this week learned to identify the intensity of our emotions and of those around us. As a family, take turns sharing examples of when you have felt intense emotions and how you chose or could have chosen a helpful response.

Finally, we have finished our work on numbers in Spanish being able to ask (and answer) the question how many are there?
