European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages is the 26th September this year (Saturday) and to build up to this we have been looking at various language activities.

One of our P7 pupils led the whole P7 class in a Turkish vocabulary lesson. They learned numbers to 10, some common greetings and colours. They also did some research in pairs about Turkiye’s Republic Day.

Mrs Traynor was dead proud of our resident Turkish expert.

Primary 6 looked at how different animal sounds are written in other languages on Wednesday.

Then they linked language and nature together by naming the part of a tree in language of their choice.

European languages happen daily in school as part of the 1 +2 Languages approach.

We begin French in P1 and carry this through to P7.

Spanish is then introduced an used alongside French from P5-P7.

Of course, Scots is always about as well.

We also have speakers of several other European languages in our school, we are very lucky.

Keep celebrating and using another language wherever and whenever you can. It helps us better understand the world and create better understanding

As Habit 5 from Leader in Me says,

In P4, the children joined in singing the thank you song in different languages. They also responded hello in a different language at register time too.
