Another week has flown by!\u00a0 Here are the learning highlights from the Yellow Table:<\/p>\n
Danny loved it when he was blindfolded and had to guess what I put in to his hand.\u00a0 This was part of our learning about the sense of sight.\u00a0 The children were able to tell me that people who cannot see are known as being ‘blind’.\u00a0 We experienced a little bit of what life is like for a blind person through this game and how blind people rely on their other senses to help them.\u00a0 The children touched the item with their hands, listened to any noises it made when they shook it and smelled it too.\u00a0 So many guessed correctly!\u00a0 We thanked God for our sense of sight.\u00a0\u00a0We hope to have a visit from a real guide dog next week and hear all about how they help people who cannot see!<\/p>\n
Vinayak and Aidhel both enjoyed cutting out a picture of a snake.\u00a0 This linked with our learning about the phonic sound ‘s’ and also, patterns.\u00a0 We coloured the snake in using a pattern of 2 colours.\u00a0 Some children then went on to make patterns during Choosing our own Learning time using items from around the classroom.<\/p>\n
Ellie said the best lesson for her was playing a game (a little bit like ‘Corners’) where the children danced to music and when it stopped, they had to go to a sound that we have learned so far.\u00a0 If that sound was called out, or a word that started with that sound, they were out.\u00a0 Ellie won one of the games!<\/p>\n
Luke liked learning about the different parts of the eye.\u00a0 Ask your child if they can remember what happens to their pupil when the light comes on and when the light goes off!\u00a0 The children looked at the parts of their eyes in a mirror and coloured a template of one with their own eye colour.\u00a0 We will use these templates for learning about bar graphs next week.\u00a0 We discovered that most of P1A have brown eyes!<\/p>\n
Leah said the best part of her week was PE.\u00a0 She enjoyed rolling and catching balls there.<\/p>\n
My highlight was story writing.\u00a0 I was so proud of the children as they followed along as I pointed to words on the screen of a story called The Train Ride and they joined in every time ‘I, can or see’ was written.\u00a0 They then went on to write what they could see from an image of a farm that had things in it starting with sounds learned so far.\u00a0 We had: ‘I can see mud (for m), I can see sky (for s) and I can see cows (for c).’\u00a0 I was delighted with the efforts the children made to remember not only how to use these words but also to write on the line, use finger spaces and a full stop at the end.\u00a0 What a clever bunch of young people!<\/p>\n
