I hope you enjoyed our last post with photos from our recent class trip to Glasgow Science Centre.\u00a0 The learning highlights this week come from \u2018Livingston\u2019:<\/p>\n<p>Izhaan and Joseph both loved playing Word Boost Corners (Joseph won!).\u00a0 I bought a new speaker for the class and they loved listening to Disney&#8217;s classic hits while dancing.<\/p>\n<p>Navami said that litter picking in our local area was her learning highlight.\u00a0 This week we were introduced to our new topic, Sustainability.\u00a0 We started it off by taking care of God&#8217;s beautiful creation by picking up litter on a walk.\u00a0 We were proud to have saved some animals from injury or even death!\u00a0 We learned that litter can make its way to the rivers and then sea where it can be eaten by sea creatures or they can get trapped inside them and die!\u00a0 Each Monday, we are going to appoint a &#8216;Planet Protector&#8217; who will be responsible for turning off the lights and smartboard when we leave the room and they will check the recycling paper bin and make sure no other rubbish is in there.\u00a0 They will also water our class plant.\u00a0 We are excited to make our own Tote bags this term and have already designed them!\u00a0 Thank you to those parents who have already sent their old pillowcase in for this exciting Sustainable task.<\/p>\n<p>Alex and Ollie loved Pancake Tuesday!\u00a0 The children had the choice of blackcurrant or orange marmalade.\u00a0 They practised their spreading skills.\u00a0 We used the pancakes for learning about fractions.\u00a0 Some chose to transform their thirds into sixths by halving them while others halved fifths and turned them into tenths!\u00a0 We used the phrase &#8216;equivalent fractions&#8217;.\u00a0 The children then listened and followed instructions such as, &#8220;eat one fifth, eat three sixths&#8221; etc.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler T said his learning highlight was our lessons on dividing.\u00a0 After we ate our pancakes, we followed this up with halving numbers (dividing them by 2).\u00a0 In P3, we divide 2 digit numbers by 2.\u00a0 The children used their knowledge of the 2 Times Tables to help them find answers.\u00a0 Next week we will move on the division with remainders.<\/p>\n<p>Elize continued to enjoy Rounders in PE.\u00a0 Our warm up involved balancing with beanbags &#8211; walking in a straight line, changing direction and even hopping with them on our heads!<\/p>\n<p>Oscar enjoyed our Narrative writing lessons.\u00a0 Narrative stories are those that have a problem that then gets resolved at the end.\u00a0 This week we started to write a whole class story called &#8216;The Lost Dog&#8217;.\u00a0 The children worked in pairs to write an &#8216;Orientation&#8217; (introduction) where the main characters and setting are introduced.\u00a0 Ollie and Joseph&#8217;s submission was chosen!\u00a0 Together as a class, we then uplevelled their orientation.\u00a0 On Monday, we will continue with paragraph 2, the &#8216;Complication&#8217; (what is the problem).<\/p>\n<p>My highlight was when we went to church to receive ashes for Ash Wednesday.\u00a0 The children learned the meaning of the different words the priest may say when delivering the ashes.\u00a0 We also made a Lenten Promise.\u00a0 Ask your child what theirs is.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Tyler T, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the class ipad has been taken away for updates so no photos were able to be taken this week.\u00a0 Hopefully it won&#8217;t be long before we have it back.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to seeing you next week at Parent Consultations.<\/p>\n<p>Have a lovely weekend!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Brown<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello P3 families!
