Week Beginning 28th April 2025

Hello P5B Families!

I hope you managed to enjoy some of the lovely sunshine we had this week. I know we used the opportunity to go outside for our class novel and took refuge in the nice shade under a tree.

Here are our learning highlights from the Yellow Table:

Daniel really enjoyed a micro:bit lesson with Miss Smith about how smart technology can be used to help the environment. This week, the children explored the sensors on the micro:bits and have incorporated some of these great ideas in to their Climate Smart models. The models are almost finished now and the children will now focus the remainder of their time largely on preparing their presentations.

Aadhya liked playing outside in the sunshine. After our class novel, we played ‘Duck, Duck, Goose’. A favourite all around!

Georgia loved our class novel. We have reached a VERY EXCITING part where there is a plan to bring an extinct animal back to life! Some of the children enjoyed making daisy chains as they listened.

Rowan said he liked House Groups today. The children will have a follow up activity on Teams so look out for this.

Alex continues to enjoy learning about Time with Mrs Morrison who takes us for maths once a week.

Anthony has been making progress with playing the recorder during music and has now mastered a tune called ‘Apples and Bananas’ he tells me.

Ksawery was quite engrossed in a lesson at the start of the week that related to materials needed to build a school. The children were given a list of how much an item costs as well as its environmental impact. Each group had a £2000 budget and the challenge was to spend this (or close to it) but to have the lowest environmental impact. This activity involved much discussion e.g. “Should we buy metal desks that cost less but have a high environmental impact or wooden desks that cost more but have a low cost to the environment?” Tricky decisions indeed! This prompted a pupil wondering what our school budget was and he asked Mrs McKissack and found out. This lesson helped the children to think about what materials they will select for their own pretend sustainable school and why. A worthwhile lesson indeed!

My highlight was reading our novel under the shade outside. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. It was very restful.

Congratulations to Kasper, our Hot Chocolate winner this week.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and I will see you back on Wednesday.

Regards

Mrs Brown

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-22243"
