Book week is always lots of fun and this one was simply brilliant!😃

The whole school worked on the book The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and learned, according to their age and level, great things about the book and its author.

Our highlights were:

Spelling words from The Lorax.

Art activities about The Lorax : draw along the Lorax and Frame your own Truffula trees.

Dramatisation of the story of The Lorax.

Baking Truffulas.

One, two and three steps word problems.

Daily collaborative stories, where every class had to write a chapter for a different book every day as a whole class. We can’t wait to read those books!😂📚

Reading to our new Reading Buddies from P2 who visited our classroom and were delighted to have us reading for and with them.

Watching the brilliant Axel Scheffler, the Gruffalo’s creator, explaining how he works with Julia Donaldson in the illustration of her books and helping us to understand the whole process of publishing a book.🐗 He also explained why he prefers to draw fictional creatures and said that he has been an illustrator since he was in his twenties. The children considered this Author’s live edition extremely interesting and said that they had learned a lot with it!

Creating our own alternative covers for The Lorax, having in mind what we have learned the book is about : Deforestation, the environment and protection of Nature.🏔🌳

Learning again about St. Margaret, the Patroness Saint of Scotland, her life and how she became so much loved by people here.

We also had parents and carers visiting for Share the Learning and it’s always enjoyable to show them a sample of our work.😀

To add to the fun and make it different, each afternoon the children got to go to one of the other Upper Area’s classroom to have a lesson with Mrs Lea, Miss McGregor and Mr McGurn about The Lorax as well.

Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to choose the Hot Chocolate of this week but will let you know next week about both!🥰

That’s all for now! We wish you all a great weekend and hope you’ll all be safe in this cold and maybe snowy weather!🌨❄

P6B and Mrs Valente😘😘

Dear Readers, We hope you are all very well.
