Grammar – all groups
L.I. I am learning the correct use of the Apostrophe
Apostrophes are used :
- To indicate omitted letters ( contractions) – I’ll can’t that’s we’ve
- To show possession : The girl’s pens ( the pens of the girl) . The girls’ pens ( the pens of the girls)
Possessive apostrophes are very simple to place correctly. Don’t bother thinking if the owner is singular or plural. Just say to yourself, Who (or what) does the object’s name belong to? Then put the apostrophe straight after the owner.
e.g. Michael’s rabbit was soft and fluffy.
The boys’ changing room was very messy.
Rapid Readers – continue to follow week 2 of your spelling and phonics programme.
READING – all groups
Look for examples of possessive apostrophe being used within the next chapter of the book you are reading at home.
Write at least 5 examples of the use of possessive apostrophe in your jotter. ( You may find more or less depending on the book you are reading)
