Developing the Young Workforce – Skills for Learning, Life and Work Programme 2019

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is a seven-year programme (2014-2021) that aims to better prepare children and young people aged 3–18 for the world of work. This year, we will once again be running a Skills for Learning, Life and Work programme for our P7 pupils which will culminate in a Careers Fayre in May. We aim to help our children develop and acquire skills across all areas of the curriculum that are transferable to a workplace whilst broadening their knowledge of different jobs, careers and opportunities for further academic study.

Over the last two years we have welcomed in a number of our parents and carers as well as representatives from local businesses, organisations, colleges and universities to deliver a short presentation on their career, line of work or establishment to our P7 classes. This could be anything from 15-30 minutes in length with the opportunity for the children to ask some questions at the end. The programme of visits will run between Monday 11th February and Thursday 4th April.

Springfield’s Careers Fayre

Tonight we hosted Springfield Primary School’s first Careers Fayre for our P5, P6 and P7 pupils together with their parents, carers and families as part of our Skills for Learning, Life and Work programme. We had a huge turnout, with the children able to visit the stalls of 20 local professionals, businesses, colleges and universities. They asked questions, gained an insight into a wide variety of career opportunities and were even lucky enough to get some free goodies for their efforts! A huge thank you to those of you who were in attendance and made this such a great success, and also to those who kindly agreed to run a stall on the evening. Without all of your support we could not have provided the children with such a valuable learning experience. Have a look at the pictures below to see what was going on!

Hey Ewe!

This week P1 and P2 have been entertaining audiences including friends, family and St. Michael’s Day Care Centre with our amazing nativity.

The pupils have been singing, dancing, acting and entertaining with wonderful performances of ‘Hey Ewe’ nativity. The performances have brought the house down and audiences have been leaving with big smiles.

We are so proud of everyone and want to thank everyone back stage and front of house for helping make this such a wonderful experience for the children at our school.
