Today in P2A…

Today in Primary 2A we had a lovely surprise! One of the Primary 1 teachers from last year, Mrs MacCallum, came in to see us and ask how we were all getting on. Mrs MacCallum showed us photos of the lovely baby Finn and was surprised at how much we have grown up since Primary 1. It was a great way to start our Friday morning and we hope to see Mrs MacCallum again soon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Screen Time Guide for Parents/Carers

There is growing concern about children being affected by overuse of consoles/devices and the impact of this upon sleep patterns, behaviour and mood.

Linked below is an information leaflet, produced by Internet Matters which offers information, guidance and strategies for parents to help them tackle this.

Sports Day – Monday 18th June

Just a reminder that Sports Day is this Monday. Children can wear their sports clothes to school. It would be great if they could wear their House colours which are;

Bruce – Blue

Castle – Yellow

James Young – Red

Leyland – Green

Further information is on our website at;

Sports Day – 18th June 2018

Please be reminded, as per our previous Groupcall text, that the date for Sports Day has been moved from Wed 30th May to Mon 18th June. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but the circumstances have been outwith our control. The organisation of Sports Day this year will be slightly different, given the large number of children participating but a letter from the Sports Day organising team will follow with details.

Happy Shoesday 22nd May 2018

As detailed in the School Newsletter, Simpson Primary will be taking part in #HappyShoesday on Tuesday 22nd May to celebrate Walk to School Month. Children can wear their favourite shoes/trainers to school (no High Heels please) or they can decorate an old pair of shoes with a happy theme – the more creative, the better! There will be no donations required – all we want is for the children to have a bit of fun and to encourage as many as possible to walk to school.

Thank you for your support.

Parent Council Race Night – Saturday 5th May – Fairway – Tickets still available

Dear All,

We would like to invite you to support our Newland’s Day Team by attending the Race Night organised by our dedicated volunteers which will take place on Saturday the 5th of May (19.00) at the Fairway Restaurant and Hotel in Bathgate.
Our Newland’s day team has worked incredibly hard to put this event together but sadly only 46 tickets have been sold so far.
We would be so overjoyed to see more of you take part, if at all possible. Please, if you have not purchased a ticket yet, get in touch as soon as possible either via Email, our Facebook page or Twitter.
Tickets are only £5 per head, there will also be a raffle and many other games on the night with lots of amazing prizes to be won. This Race Night is bound to be a fun filled event and all the funds raised will be used for our Newland’s day float and our School.
It would be fantastic to see you there, we hope to hear from you soon!
Kind regards,
Silvia Small – On behalf of the Newland’s day team

The Lost Words

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, the Pupil Council delivered a copy of The Lost Words to each class in the school. For those unfamiliar with the book, it is a stunning spell book written by Robert Macfarlane and illustrated beautifully by artist Jackie Morris. It showcases words from our natural world which are no longer included in the Junior Oxford Dictionary due to lack of use (including acorn, conker, dandelion and otter). Before each class received the book, Primary One to Seven engaged in a ‘guess the meaning’ task and it has created quite a buzz. We have been thrilled with the response our posts have had on Twitter – including comments from both author Robert Macfarlane and illustrator Jackie Morris.

As we FINALLY head towards spring (fingers crossed!) our school challenge is to get out into nature and find out about the plants and creatures we have discovered in this fabulous book. Can spot any of them outdoors? Draw them? Make a fact file about them? Get together with a friend and record a news report about them?If you are looking for something to do over the holidays, why not give it a go!

Ask an adult to tweet about it using the #lostwordsSPS @simpsonprimary or comment below.
