Parent Council – Wednesday 23 March 6:30pm

PUSCPS Parent Council LogoThe Parent Council is first and foremost a forum for discussion.  It is organised and run by parents and parents take on roles of Chair, Secretary, etc.  Parents/carers are welcome to come and be involved.  It is important that we are all involved in discussing the work of the school.
Parent Council Meetings are approximately every six weeks and are informal and open.  If you have anything you would wish to discuss these can be shared with the Parent Council by email – (parent.council1@aol.com) and can be added to the agenda.
If you are interested in taking part the next meeting is on Wednesday 23rd March at 6:30pm.  We look forward to seeing some of you there.

We would like to share with you what we have been learning last week.

 

‘We were taking notes about Malta and using these to write sentences to compare Malta to Pumpherston.’ by Abigail

P2/3 Learning

This past week has been busy with lots of great learning.  We have been making decisions in groups and as a class to decide on a name for our class sweet shop and for the logo to be used along with it.  We had to listen to each other’s ideas in a group and use criteria to decide on the logo.  Our shop will be named Sweet Stall Surprise. The name was created by Rosa and the logo that we voted on was created by Ethan.  All the ideas were fantastic for the names and the logos.

We are almost finished painting our sweets to use and are about to set up the shop – we can’t wait.  The models for our home work were due in today and they are fantastic!  Look out for photos on the blog later this week.

Mrs Andison is looking forward to seeing all the parents at Parent nights this week.

March Newsletter

The March Newsletter has been emailed home and is available to read and download from the blog.  click the “Our School” tab at the top and select Newsletters and Updates

We have email address for almost all contacts now and this helps us communicate cheaply and effectively.  We have 27 families where we have no email.  Please ensure the office has up-to-date contact details at all times.

 

Selfie Cop

A new app for phones and tablets has been brought to my attention by WLC Child Protection officer.  It’s called Selfie Cop.

Selfie Cop is an app that can be installed on the phones/tablets of children (targeted at 8-13 year olds) and their parents to help children learn to think more about images they share.

Every time the camera is activated on the phone/tablet, SelfieCop pops up and asks the child if they are sure about sharing this image – the image will also be available for the parent carer to view.

The app is installed with the child’s awareness and permission – it’s not about spying on their activity, it’s about trying to instil good habits around thinking twice before sharing images.

We would like to share with you things we have been learning so far in term 3!

Primary 4

This week, we started our new topic – Farming.

We began by thinking about what we already knew and then came up with questions about things we’d like to find out. So far, we have explored the types of farming that occur in Scotland and where they happen, looked at seasonal calendars to find out how farming in Scotland changes throughout the year and have begun to look at where our food comes from.

For a homework task, Miss McLaughlin set us the challenge of looking for food labels to show us where our food came from. We found some products could be grown/farmed here and many had to be imported in from other countries. We think that this might be because our climate makes it hard to grow things like bananas, coffee and pineapples.

We also used atlases to look for the countries found on our food labels. It’s amazing how far food can travel! We are going to start thinking about the good and bad things about importing food into the country.

Primary 2/3 Learning

This week has been great fun.  We have begun to start making sweets for our class sweet shop.  We are making them out of salt dough which we made ourselves by following a recipe, mixing and kneeding the dough.  We worked in groups to create ideas for the sweet names, ideas for the name of the shop and logos, as well as cutting out shapes for the sweets.  Next week we will finish making the sweets, decide on a name for our shop and a logo to go with it.  We can’t wait to start using the shop.  We are using lots of Maths skills for our shop.  We have used measuring for our dough and we have discussed what skills we will need in the shop – using money, adding, subtracting and times tables.  We are going to have great fun.
