Programming a micro:bit with help from Sky!
As part of National Digital Learning Week, today Shona and Craig from Sky joined Primary 4 and 5 to share their knowledge of programming a micro:bit.
A micro:bit is a tiny programmable computer, designed to make learning and teaching easy and fun! Some of us even managed to programme it to say our names.
A big thank you to Shona and Craig for showing us this new piece of hardware, we were impressed how we used our prior knowledge of programming in order to use the micro:bit.
They also shared with children information about their jobs at Sky and what skills and experience they need.
Basketball Pizza Party Celebration
Our basketball team recently won the White B Conference as part of the West Lothian Wolves Primary School league.
Our basketball team was a new addition to the school this year. These children give up their lunch times, after school and Friday afternoons to train and attend league games.
We are very proud of their perseverance, determination and grit in order to win their league.
To recognise this huge achievement, today we treated them to a pizza party! They enjoyed pizza, team chat and watching some NBA games.
A big thank you to their Coach, Mrs Hamilton who has been an inspirational and motivational coach for our team, and also to the children’s families for supporting them by taking them to the games.
Best of luck for your games on Friday!
Families Learning Together 4
P1 – 7 Parent/ Carer Ethos Survey
Each session West Lothian issue a parent ethos survey for families to complete about your child’s school. The findings of this questionnaire, along with our school evaluations, help us to plan future improvements.
We would value if you could take ten minutes to complete the survey using the link below.

Digital Learning Week Lunch Time Clubs
As part of National Digital Learning Week staff offered some lunchtime clubs.
P1-3 had the option to attend an apps club. They had a tinker with the different apps we have available and a play with the green screen.
P4-7 could attend a Glow workshop. They decided they would have a play with forms and make an online quiz, or Sway and make a presentation about something they were interested in. Both groups tinkered with the software and supported each other with using the different features.
Pumphie Pals Self Evaluation
We started our session by playing a community builder and some of the pre-school children from our nursery joined us, as part of their transition.
On Friday our Pumphie Pals groups used How Good is OUR Good to self evaluation our improvements journey. Each group had one of the areas to evaluate:
- Our relationships
- Our learning and teaching
- Our school and community
- Our health and wellbeing
- Our success and achievements
The groups sorted statements into agree, not sure and disagree.
School Improvement and PEF Evaluation
We would like to invite parents and carers to evaluate our improvement plan and PEF plan for this session and to contribute for our planning for next session.
The sheets below are available to comment on:
- at the office area this week
- during families learning together
- or leave a comment on this blog post
We would really appreciate your comments and contributions.
No Dogs Allowed
Unfortunately it has been brought to our attention that some families are bringing their dogs onto school grounds. West Lothian council operate a policy of no dogs on school grounds and we would ask that families adhere to this. It is also important to be mindful that some of our children may have a fear of dogs or are allergic to them.
