The Big Picnic

Eco School highlights part 1 – Snails and Fish

These photos show Andrew, Nathan and Cody are getting to know some of the animals that live in the Pinewood garden. The snails were found hiding in old plant pots and the boys really enjoyed looking after them. They discovered that snails really like banana!

In these photos Ryley, Aiden, Andrew, Nathan, Joe and Graeme are using waste materials (foil cases from cakes and sweetie wrappers) to make an Eco fish. It was their entry for the Waste Material Menagerie which was showcased at a special primary assembly. There were lots of great entries but their fish made a huge splash!

Comic Relief Danceathon Pinewood Style!

MOV00537

We had a fantastic morning taking part in a ‘danceathon’ to raise money for Comic Relief. Both primary and secondary danced non stop for half an hour… we did the Macarena, toe tapped to Cha Cha Slide and showed off our Flossing skills! Well done to all the pupils and staff who took part.

Group YPI Donations Needed

Group 8 would like to help a local charity called ‘The West Lothian School Bank’. We are asking for donations of any school uniform, shoes and jackets. Also items such as pencils, pens, school  bags and lunch boxes etc. These can be used and in good condition or brand new. Any help would be much appreciated. Drop off point is in the language room where group 8 are based.

Literacy Week

Our Literacy Week in November was very successful! We had a visit from Ron Fairweather who was a super storyteller – he had us all very engaged in his funny stories! Some classes also enjoyed some shared reading time with P7 pupils from Murrayfield. Our Leavers group lead some story sack sessions with the early years’ classes – they did a fantastic job of reading to the pupils and keeping them engaged. All the classes made a fantastic effort in the ‘decorate your door’ competition – Class 5 won the primary prize and Group 9 won the secondary prize. Thank you to our head boy and girl for judging!

Class 5 enjoyed Science fortnight

we made Irish soda bread and turned milk into butter milk by adding bicarbonate of soda and watched the milk change

the flour was great to feel

they rose really well! and tasted wonderful

we enjoyed the challenge of building a tower with paper and paper clips

we planted potatoes in the sensory garden in Blackburn Primary School after chitting them

we grew cress to use in our egg and cress sandwiches

they tasted great – someone couldn’t wait to take theirs home!

Primary Pupil Council

The primary pupil council met this morning and were ready and raring to go after the holidays! We all have new job roles to take on:

Callum was our leader

Cameron was in charge of pouring the water

Mark kept the meeting running on time as the time keeper

Kai and Liam kept notes of our ideas from the meeting

Tyler and Harry were  in charge of tidying up

Ben and Graeme were our messengers.

We found out what the plan for this term was and we wrote down ideas for how to make some money to buy new playground toys!

Strictly Pinewood

Our annual event was a roaring success as once again our pupils did us proud. Videos of the pupil dances will follow shortly but until then here is a sneak preview of what our staff get up to after school as they perform Grease.
