Welcome to the Parkhead Primary School Blog

Parkhead Wins Top Prize for Community Garden Competition

Before Christmas, Polbeth and West Calder Community Garden asked if local schools could come up with a logo and a snappy title for their garden project. Representatives from our Eco and Health Teams got onto the task straight away and two entries were selected from each school.

The standard of entry was very high with entries from not only ourselves but also Polbeth Nursery, St Mary’s Primary and S1 West Calder High School. The shortlist was displayed in the Thistle Coffee Shop and independent judges made the final decision.

We found out during our first week back that a winner had been chosen and that Julie Baird from our Eco Team was the winner! Julie wins Dobbies vouchers, which I am sure she will spend very wisely, being a member of our Eco Team. Well done Julie! A special mention should also go to Emma Porter from our Health Team as Emma came third in the competition. Excellent results for Parkhead.

Free local insulation offer – act now to get your loft and cavity wall insulation FREE!

West Lothian Council and the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre have got together and secured funding from the Scottish Government so that everyone in the Fauldhouse and Breich Valley ward can access free cavity wall and loft insulation. Some people qualify for free insulation already but most people normally have to pay. That’s what makes this offer so special – anyone can get free insulation and start making savings straight away. Loft insulation saves £175 per year, and cavity wall insulation can save £135, meaning insulation is one of the easiest ways to stop your home wasting energy. There’s really no catch either, but the funding is limited and will be used on a first come, first served basis – so act now and be sure you don’t miss out. Book a free, no-obligation survey today by calling 0800 512 012, or leave a message and an advisor will call you back.

 How the scheme works:

  • Call and book a free, no-obligation survey and be sure you don’t miss out on free insulation. Just call the Home Energy Scotland Hotline free on 0800 512 012 from Monday – Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm and Saturday 9.00am to 5.00pm, and ask for the West Lothian Free insulation offer.
  • A surveyor will check your home to make sure it’s possible to insulate. If your property is suitable and you’d like to go ahead, the insulation installer will arrange a date and time for the work to be done. It doesn’t take long, and you’ll start saving straight away!
