How are trees like castles?

Riverside Primary 5 pupils are seen in this video traveling from the classroom to the local park alongside the Almond river.

The class is studying castles and they build them with all the features you would expect: ramparts, a great hall and kitchens. However, they discover together, the best castles take advantage of the local landscape and build high or use natural defensive features.

Back in class, the pupils complete a worksheet which explores how trees are like castles: big and strong etc.

Technology and Problem Solving

“Extending the learning environment for Windyknowe Primary 5 visiting Low Port Outdoor Centre this week.

We used some challenges and simple technology as a stimulus for learning.”  Measuring, angles plus trial and error. Lots of learning activity can be created with plastic guttering and rope when available for children to use. Why not get some materails for your school and nursery and  create, share or borrow tasks that can enhance your lessons.
