P7 Bathgate Transition Information

Good Morning,

The children from p7 who will be going to Bathgate Academy will start their transition on Tuesday 6th of June and their last day will be Friday the 9th June. They should still come to Murrayfield on Monday as usual and wear their normal school uniform throughout their transition dates. The bus passes have arrived and will be given to the children on Monday. The school bus leaves at 8am outside the Mill center and they should arrive at Bathgate Academy at 8.30 for registration each morning.

Children who wish to buy their lunches should take money with them as they will not be given their money cards until during or after the holidays. I would suggest that children bring their own snack with them as the tuck shop at break time can be very busy and a little overwhelming at first. Children have been given their booklets which has their timetables and classes in them. Please make sure that they take their P.E kits on the appropriate day and on Thursday morning for their Sports Day. Mrs Millar and I will see them at Bathgate academy on the Tuesday morning and I will also see them at sports day on the Thursday morning.

Although it is a voting day on Thursday 8th June, Bathgate Academy will be open as usual. Murrayfield is a polling station so any p7 pupils not attending Bathgate transition week will have the day off school.

I am sure everyone will have an amazing week and will enjoy every minute of their transition. It is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and get used to their timetables and the layout of the High School.

Enjoy it P7! You will be amazing.

Have a lovely weekend.

Blackburn Gala Day

As you will be aware Blackburn Gala Day is fast approaching.  The theme this year is ‘Witches and Wizards’ and our school float will be based on ‘The Wizard of Oz.’

Please come along dressed as your favourite witch, wizard or character from The Wizard of Oz’ to help celebrate and create a fantastic atmosphere during the procession.  We hope that you are able to join us and walk with the school in the procession.

There will be room on the float for some nursery children and their accompanying adults.  These spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and if you wish your child to have a seat on the float please make your way to the float immediately after the crowning ceremony.

Please see letters issued from school/ nursery for more details.  (a.m nursery pupil’s letters will be issued tomorrow morning)

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

P6 and P7 Residential Trip – Dounans Activity Centre (March 2018)

A little reminder that we are having a short meeting tomorrow at 3.30pm for parents/ carers of children who will be attending next year’s residential trip to Dounans Activity Centre.  This is an informal meeting to hear a little more about Dounans, the types of activities your children will be able to experience and to ask any questions you may have.

Don’t worry if you are not available at this time as there will other opportunities to discuss this information and to share any questions or queries you have.

P3G News

It’s been a fun week in Primary 3G.

In literacy we have been building our vocabulary. We focussed on including as many interesting and exciting words as possible in our discussions and writing. This is a challenge but can be made fun through games and activities such as word webs, filling the web with more exciting versions of a word.

We have enjoyed some new challenges in numeracy. We have created and started using multiplication, addition and subtraction wheels to help with our mental maths. We have been practising these strategies this week and will challenge ourselves next time by timing each other and possibly adding some competition too.

Our garden centre topic has been a hit in class and we have created a few displays of lovely artwork showing different flower paintings using a range of techniques. We have also been learning about what a plant needs to grow before completing sequencing tasks about how to plant and grow seeds.

We have also used the internet and non-fiction books to do some independent research about plants.

We have loved the sunshine over the past few days and have taken the time to get outdoors for some PE challenges. This has been good fun and tricky at times as we even included some of our recent learning in French when discussing the weather outside – “il fait chaud”.

Have a lovely weekend!

P7 News

It’s been another great week in P7! We have been looking at division in maths and have been sharing strategies to support our learning. The children learned a strategy called bar modelling and some have found this strategy really supportive within the division concept. Good Job!

Within Literacy the children have been focusing on Wanted posters and have created some amazing work on characters from a book they have read. The children looked at vocabulary of Wanted Posters and their layout and used these to create ideas for their own posters.

As it has been a beautiful week, we had a fun outdoor session with p6/7 and p6/5. It was so lovely to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and practice some stations for Sport Day next week.

Have a good weekend!
