As part of British Science Week we have been revisiting our learning about engineers. We love to build things but this week we have also been learning about designing things too.
Along with lots of other classes in school we are taking part in the Primary Engineers competition which is quite tricky for P1! We have been reading lots of robot stories to help us get some ideas for designing and making our own robots and also thinking about jobs that robots could do to help people.
We worked with a partner to make our robots and could choose whether to use construction materials or junk. Everyone’s model had to include a “button” to turn it on and off!
We drew pictures of our robots and labelled them for the competition. We also had to write a sentence explaining what our robot could do. Here are just a few of them.
Sophia’s mum came into class to tell us all about her job as a civil engineer.  We enjoyed looking at the fantastic photos of the Queensferry Crossing as it was being built and also seeing some real engineers’ plans. We asked lots of questions.
Thank you very much to Sophia’s mum for leaving her special Health and Safety clothing for us to try on too!
A wonderful action packed assembly by P2b.

This is an update about the P7 Lagganlia trip next week. The trip at the moment will still go ahead. We have spoken to Lagganlia Centre and they have told us they all roads are clear and safe to drive. We will update you if anything changes.
Please check the following basic kit list. Remember that is is the minimum requirements. Link to list below:-

They have however suggested to pack some extra layers as well as extra gloves, hat, snood and socks due to the cold weather.
Please note that any MEDICAL forms as well as any medicines needs to be into the office for 8:45 Monday at the latest. Staff will not be allowed to give any medicines without relevant completed medical forms and approval from parents.
Please bring all luggage to the school hall on Monday first thing. Children will also need a packed lunch for Monday.
Here are the powerpoint presentation and photographs of our stand at the recent Health and Wellbeing Showcase held in school. It was deliberately quite simple so that the children were able to talk about what they had been learning without any adult help. Thank you to everyone who came along, especially in the afternoon when the children were at the stand talking about their learning.
We hope to see as many parents and carers as possible at our Heath and Wellbeing Showcase tomorrow at either 1.30pm or 6pm.
The choir will be opening the first session at 1.30pm with some health and wellbeing songs.
Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there!
Many thanks to all those who played in the Inter School football festival on Monday. It was a cold night, but lots of great games.
We will look forward to the next one which should be in February.
Here is the presentation from this evening if you missed it.
