P2/1, P2A and P2B MINIBEASTS 1.6.20

Good Morning, everyone!

This week Primary 2 and P2/1 are learning about Spiders.

Have a look at this Powerpoint and youtube video. They have lots of  interesting spider facts and pictures and will help you to make your own Spider Fact File.

Spiders Powerpoint

Can you make your own spider using paper or junk? Here are some ideas to help you.

Have a go at drawing a spider and a spider’s web.

Here is a spider board game that you might like to print out and play with your family. Or maybe you could design and create your own spider game.

You might enjoy listening to this spider story which Miss McDermott also read as part of Story Time from Home last week.

I know lots of you like doing wordsearches so here is one to try. How many spider words can you find?

We hope you have fun with all our spider activities this week.

P2/1 – Monday 1st June

Hello everyone

I hope that you had a nice weekend.

Today I have posted a special video to help with this week’s maths but it wasn’t made by me – this time it’s  Mrs Menmuir! She made it for the P1 classes but as this week we are also learning about data handling  I thought it would be nice for you to see it and try out some of the super ideas that she will show you. We have already done some data handling in our maths workbooks so it will good for you do some practical things like Mrs Menmuir suggests and also to try some online activities.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/public/lpsblog/uploads/sites/3910/2020/05/11130448/Pictograms-for-blog.mp4

I know that some have you already been on the BBC Karate Cats website but this week I would like you to try the data handling activities.  On this website, they are called statistics but this is just really another word for the same data or information. It is a good idea to start at bronze level first.  Here is the link.

Below is the link for the first of this week’s Story Time from Home videos which is all about fairy tale characters.

P2a P2b P2/1 Health & Wellbeing – Wednesday 27th May

Here is the Health and Wellbeing Challenge for this week.

This activity is designed to help your child develop his/her knowledge, skills and confidence to help them respond safely to risks they may encounter online.

Learning Outcomes

  • I am aware of and able to express my feelings and am developing the ability to talk about them.
  • I can show ways of getting help in unsafe situations and emergencies.

Activity 1:  Watch Jessie & Friends- Episode 2

 Find the Jessie & Friends cartoons at  https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/jessie-and-friends-videos/
 Watch Episode 2: Sharing Pictures with your child.
 Use questions to chat about the cartoon.

For example:
o How did lots of people end up seeing the pictures?
o What made Mo feel sad?
o How did the friends get help when they needed it?
o What did Miss Humphrey say she would do to help?

 Finish by watching the song again and having a sing-along!
Note: If your child wants to watch Episode 1 too, do watch it with them! It’s aimed at younger children, but it’s still fun to watch.

Activity 2Draw a character
 Ask your child to draw a picture of their favourite character singing the funny tummy song.
 Ask them to include their favourite lyrics from the song on their drawing.
 Remember – we’d love to see your work!

P2/1 – Wednesday 27th May

Hello everyone

I do hope that you are enjoying the nice weather this week and getting outside in the fresh air – maybe you are even spotting some minibeasts too!  I thought you might like to see this super photo that was sent to me yesterday.  You’ll need to use your good looking skills when you are out and about in Linlithgow to see if you can spot this creepy crawly too!

Here is the Story Time from Home Link for today.

https://vimeo.com/422886488

I hope that you enjoy it and remember, please just do what you can with your home learning activities.

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning Primary 2/1 and P1 ,

Have you ever wished you had a Robot?

Or   that you were a Robot?

What would you look like?

What would you sound like?

How would you move?

Here is a song called I am a Robot for you to listen to and enjoy. There are lots of actions and there  is a bit in the song for you to make up your own robot moves!

The robot in the song says,      beep beep beep beep bop!

When this bit plays clap the rhythm of the words. What would your robot say? Try singing the song with your own robot words and rhythm and your robot moves! Let me know how you get on!

P2/1 – Tuesday 26th May

Hello boys and girls

I hope that you are all well.  I know that lots of you enjoyed last week’s robot stories so I thought that you might like this robot story that was on Newsround last week – it’s all about a robot sheepdog. Click on the link below to find out more.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52758579

I hope that you are enjoying learning about minibeasts. Now that the weather is getting better, there are certainly plenty of them in my garden but today’s story is about one of my least favourites – spiders! I’m not afraid of them  –  I just don’t like them in the house. What do you think?

Here is today’s Story Time From Home link.

https://vimeo.com/422504216

Thank you again for all your messages and photos – you are all certainly keeping busy and doing lots of great things with your grown ups.

Miss McDermott

PS – I have added some new activities to Heinemann Active Maths and it seems to be ok this week!

P2/1, P2A and P2B MINIBEASTS 25.5.20

Good Morning, everyone.

This week we are learning about Butterflies.

We have attached a Butterfly  Powerpoint for you to look at.

butterflies powerpoint

This youtube video will help you to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Here is another clip which might help you choose some butterfly facts for your Fact File.

https://youtu.be/FUEeu4moxzM

Can you draw or make a life cycle of a butterfly?  Here is one example. I am sure you will have your own creative ideas. We would love to see them.

In Maths this week we are learning about symmetry. The Maths blog has information on how to create a symmetrical butterfly. You could colour or paint a butterfly, you could draw round your hands or use painted hand prints or even find some things outdoors to make a butterfly picture. Here are some ideas to help.

One of our P.2 pupils shared this activity on how to create your own Superbug.  We thought some of you might like to try it too.

https://www.mylearning.org/resources/create-your–own-super-bug

Enjoy your learning and share it with us if you can.

P2/1 – Monday 25th May

Hello everyone,

Hope you had a good weekend even though the weather was rather wet and windy. You’ll not be surprised to find out that Jim and Matthew had to take the tent down on Friday when I was at the hub school  – it just about blew away like a giant balloon! I think the forecast for the week ahead is looking much better however so maybe we will be able to put it back up again. Sometimes we go and sit there and have lunch for a wee change rather than stay in the house. Jim and Matthew are doing their jobs from home too so we are all in the house together all day – so just like you and your families, we know it’s not easy.

Here is the link for today’s Story Time from Home which was safely filmed inside! This week’s stories are all about minibeasts.

https://vimeo.com/422187789

As it’s the start of a new week there are extra blog pages today with the minibeast and maths resources. As I said last week, please remember that these activities are for all week – not just today! Please just do what you can when you can.

There were some problems with Heinemann Active Maths last week but hopefully these will now be resolved.  I will update the activities.  Sumdog appears to be working fine and the more popular of the two from the feedback I have received from parents.

Please continue to stay in touch and let me know how you are getting on and if you haven’t been in touch recently, please do send me a message soon – it would be lovely to hear from you.

Have a good day with hopefully some nicer weather!

Miss McDermott
