P2/1 – Thursday 11th June

Hello everyone!

Hopefully the weather will be a bit better today – to quote one of my favourite sayings it rained cats and dogs all day in Bathgate yesterday!  As you all know this is just a saying that means it rained very heavily. Wouldn’t that be a funny story though if it did rain cats and dogs in Bathgate? I’m not sure what Tufty and Cleo would think mind you – they don’t like the rain and they aren’t very happy about new cats coming into my garden never mind dogs too.

Today’s Story Time from Home is a book written by the author Nick Butterworth.  He is famous for writing the Percy the Park Keeper stories and I haven’t read this story before in class.  It has a lovely ending and I hope you enjoy it . Tufty certainly seemed to enjoy as you will see from the video!

Have a nice day and remember to send me your cat stories if you can.

P2a P2b & P2/1 Health & Wellbeing – Wednesday 10th June

Here is the Health and Wellbeing Challenge for this week.

This activity is designed to help your child develop his/her knowledge, skills and confidence to help them respond safely to risks they may encounter online.

Learning Outcomes

  • I am aware of and able to express my feelings and am developing the ability to talk about them.
  • I can show ways of getting help in unsafe situations and emergencies.

Activity 1: Quiz time!
 Rewatch Jessie & Friends Episode 2: Sharing Pictures at

https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/jessie-and-friends

 If you have access to a printer, print the Sharing Pictures quiz and ask your child to fill it in with your support.
No printer?    Read the questions and answer choices out loud and ask your child to tell you the answers.

 After finishing the quiz, talk to your child about how sometimes things that happen online can make us feel worried, scared or sad – just like Jessie, Tia and Mo in this episode. Tell them that if anything ever worries or upsets them, they can always come to you or another trusted adult for help, no matter what.

Activity 2:  Draw what makes you feel happy!

 Jessie, Tia and Mo love playing superheroes – it makes them feel happy.
 Take a sheet of blank paper and help your child fold it into quarters. Open the paper up again. There are now four spaces on the paper.
 In each space, ask your child to draw themselves doing something that makes them feel happy – a total of four different activities. These could be things they like to do on their own, or activities they enjoy with friends or family.
 They can write what they are doing under each picture if they’d like.
Remember –  we’d love to see your work!

P2/1 – Wednesday 10th June

Hello boys and girls

I hope you are all well and mangaing to do some home learning for your grown ups this week. I know it isn’t easy as it is such a long time now since you have been at school and had to sit quietly at a table in the classroom.  Hopefully you are all still trying to do your best and do something every day, at least for a little while. Remember to keep in touch with me even if you just want to say hello and have a little chat!

Here is the link to today’s Story Time from Home. You can see from the front cover it is another robber story but this time it isn’t the cats that do the stealing!

https://vimeo.com/427440282

You still have time to take part in the competition for The Marches bunting.  Here is the information poster again in case you didn’t see it on Friday.

Please remember as it is Wednesday that there is also Health and Wellbeing blog page today.  You will need a grown up to help you with this task .

Hope you have a good day!

Hello everyone,

Today is a very special day as it is the 50th Story Time from Home! It’s hard to believe that’s how many stories  I’ve read  – I wonder how many you’ve watched and listened to?

As well as this, today I have included a special story for you to read that was written by one of the girls in our class.  It is not only a super story but has lots of fantastic illustrations too.

I hope you enjoy reading it and listening to today’s cat story!

P2/1, P2A and P2B MINIBEASTS 8.6.20

Good Morning, everyone!

This week Primary 2 and P2/1 are learning about Slugs and Snails.

Here are some resources to help you with your learning this week.

The following Powerpoint and videos will help you to learn some facts about slugs and snails.

slugs and snails

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/mini-beast-adventure-with-jess-snail-adventure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duXDMC2UpZ0

You could try this worksheet to see if you can label the parts of a snail.

snail labelling

Why don’t you listen to the story of The Snail and the Whale.

You could practise writing your tricky words and phonics using a water bottle (a little bit like a snail’s trail).

It’s always fun to try something creative. We thought you might like to design  some colourful snails. These examples were inspired by a famous artist called Kandinsky. He loved to paint using lots of different colours and shapes.

We have attached a Powerpoint that will help you to learn about colour mixing and will tell you all about Kandinsky.

We would love to see all your colourful snails.

Have fun learning and if you are outside keep a look out for any slugs and snails.

Hello P2/1

I hope that you had a nice weekend.

Here is the result from the Story Time From Home vote. There were 48 replies and as you can see it was very close.

I am delighted to say that the winning theme was cats and as you know I have lots of super cat books and I will enjoy sharing some of these with you this week.  Today’s story includes dogs and cats and is from a series of books that you might already know.

P2/1 – Friday 5th June

Hello everyone

I can hardly believe that it is the end of the first week in June already. Thank you all for continuing to do your best and for sending me all the super pictures and messages with your grown ups help of course!  This week I have loved reading your fairy tale stories – you are doing a great job at home and although I am working in the hub school, I am really missing seeing you all and I know you must be missing each other too.

This is the link for today’s Story Time from Home.  It is about a very cheeky princess and I am so glad that she isn’t in our class! I hope that you enjoy it.

https://vimeo.com/425989968

You might have already have heard about this competition for Marches Day but I thought I would include the information for you in case you haven’t. It might  be a good thing to do on a rainy day!

To enter the competition you need to send a photo to the email mentioned but you could send me a picture too.

The link below is to a Facebook video the Deacons Court have posted about making bunting which might help you.

https://www.facebook.com/linlithgowmarches/videos/549967239025536

Tomorrow should have been Newlands Day in Bathgate so I have got bunting outside my house and last weekend Jim and I made a rainbow wishing well for the garden. Tufty and Cleo have liked playing with the bunting as it is flapping in the wind – here are a few photos

Have a nice weekend even if the weather isn’t so good and remember to check Twitter later today for this week’s Awesome Achievers.

P2a P2b P2/1 Health & Wellbeing – Wednesday 3rd June

Here is the Health and Wellbeing Challenge for this week.

This activity is designed to help your child develop his/her knowledge, skills and confidence to help them respond safely to risks they may encounter online.

Learning Outcomes

  • I am aware of and able to express my feelings and am developing the ability to talk about them.
  • I can show ways of getting help in unsafe situations and emergencies.

Activity 1: Read Jessie & Friends: Sharing Pictures
– The Storybook
 Download and read Jessie & Friends: Sharing Pictures – the Storybook at
https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/jessie-and-friends
 Use questions to chat about the storybook. For example:
o Who did Tia want to send the pictures to at first?
o How did more people end up seeing the pictures?
o What made Mo feel sad?
o How did Ms Humphrey help Jessie, Tia and Mo?
 If you have a printer, print off the storybooks and ask your child to complete the activities on page 4 and 7.
No printer? Ask your child to draw a picture of a grown-up who helps them and, (if they can) write the grown-ups name, all the things they do to help your child, and/or what your child admires about them.  P1 children can just talk about these things rather than write anything.

Activity 2:  Learn the actions to the song!
 Re-watch the song on the Jessie & Friends cartoon, Episode 2 at
https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/jessie-and-friends-videos/

Use the actions and lyrics sheets to sing along and learn the actions to the chorus.
 If your child would like to they could perform the song for others in their family.

Please remember you can send us any photographs or messages about your work – we would love to receive them.

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning Primary 1 and P2/1,  how are you feeling today?

Today we are going to be thinking about keeping healthy! I know lots of you will be enjoying doing exercise every day. I have been cycling a lot and going for long walks. Here is a  Fischy song you may remember to get you moving and to think about how you are feeling inside too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlWfgU4wTWY

We also have to choose healthy food to eat and the next song is full of lovely vegetables which are so good for you! I wonder which one in the song is your favourite?  Mine is the tomato!

Find an old piece of paper and get ready to crunch it up when the munch and crunch and scrunch sounds comes. When the popping sound comes make a pop with your lips! Make a lovely mmmmmmmm sound for the yummy bit!

You could make up your own verse about your favourite vegetable or fruit, let me know what you would choose to munch today!

P2/1 – Tuesday 2nd June

Hello boys and girls

It looks like the nice weather is here for at least another day so I do hope that you are all enjoying the sunshine and getting outside to play.  Yesterday when Jim and I were out for a walk we saw a weasel out enjoying the sun. Unfortunately we didn’t have any phones or cameras but I have posted this picture to let you see what a weasel looks like.  It is not very often that you get to see them in the wild – especially not in Bathgate!

Weasels have lovely red, gingery coloured fur and white tummies.  They are very small and only about the length of a pencil case when they are fully grown. They have very sharp teeth and although they mostly eat mice and voles, they can catch rabbits and squirrels too.

Below is the link to today’s Story Time from Home. This week’s story writing is a little bit tricky so you might want to listen to the stories to help you with some ideas before you write your own.

https://vimeo.com/424868774

Although it’s only Tuesday, I am working in the hub school today, so I won’t be replying immediately to any messages or emails. You can still keep in touch however and I will get back to you on Wednesday.

Stay safe in the sun and have a nice day.

Miss McDermott
