Good morning P1! Wednesday 24th June 2020

Good morning everybody,

This morning I would like to share a story with you that we sometimes read in Primary One.

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do. It has a super message about liking who you are and realising that everybody is different and everybody is special.

My favourite line is “I like me on the inside too, for all I think and say and do!” because we all know how important it is to be a nice person on the inside.

Here is another of my favourite quotes from a great (and very funny) book; The Twits.

As we come to the end of Primary One, all of your teachers would like to say thank you to you all.

Thank you for being kind.

Thank you for trying your best, even when things are tricky.

Thank you for making us smile.

Thank you for helping others when they feel sad or alone or are hurt.

Thank you for being so creative and imaginative.

Thank you for bringing joy into our classrooms every single day.

Thank you for being such stars and staying safe and learning at home.

Thank you for being yourself and letting us get to know you.

Thank you for being you.

Please also remember:

Mistakes are important – they help us learn. If someone else makes a mistake, encourage them! If you make a mistake, it’s totally normal and okay. Also remember to ask for help when you need it, other people will be pleased to help you.

It is okay to feel worried, anxious, upset or angry sometimes. Everybody feels these things. If you feel these feelings, why not try talking to a grown up you trust or doing some deep breathing to calm down.

You are wonderful just the way you are. Be yourself and be proud of that! Choose to be kind every day. Being kind makes other people feel great, and it also makes YOU feel great!

Thank you for reading quite a long post today and know that your teachers are really missing you and wish that we could be together because you are all so amazing.

Take care,

Your P1 Teachers

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning Primary 1 and Primary 2/1, love to go to the beach do you?

It’s almost time for the Summer holidays and I hope we will all get to the beach sometime soon but we can go today through the magic of music!

Today’s clip is all about the sea and there is a song to learn and sing, a story to hear and some listening which I hope will take you to the beach!

After you’ve tried the song, scroll down to the story of The Magic Fish and then down  to the listening activity.  Close your eyes and you can just about feel you’re at the sea side! See how many sounds you can hear then draw a lovely sea side picture! Have a great Summer!

Good morning P1! Tuesday 23rd June 2020

Bonjour!

Good morning – today we are going to learn some French together. We have been having beautiful sunny days and hot weather lately, so I thought maybe we could practise asking somebody what the weather is like and giving different answers. Don’t worry if you can’t remember these off by heart though, we are just working on our awareness and pronunciation at the moment.

So… here is a little PowerPoint that you can open and have a look at. It introduces different weather words and then has a little quiz: French Weather PowerPoint

The PowerPoint unfortunately doesn’t let you hear the pronunciation so I have recorded a very basic video (that I cannot seem to make any less enormous – sorry!) to help with that as best I can.

Activity 1: Connect Four

Why not try a game of Connect Four to practise saying what the weather is like?

Activity 2: Draw the Weather

Ask an adult to read the French weather sentences and draw the correct weather in the picture.

Activity 3:

Have a listen to some French weather videos and songs on YouTube. Here is a good one to help you with your pronunciation: http://Link to French weather video!

Here is another French song about the weather which I like watching because it is quite funny, don’t worry if you don’t know all the words though, it is just nice sometimes to listen to something in another language to get a feel for it!

I hope you have enjoyed learning a bit more French today. I cannot believe this is the last week of term. It is very sad that we cannot be together in our classrooms, but I want you all to feel very proud of yourselves for being such superstars. You are all amazing and your teachers are all really looking forward to seeing you around school after the summer to say a huge hello and give air hugs!

Take care,

Your P1 Teachers 😀

And here’s another link to a very short video of Cleo who it seems will only appear when I’m not reading the story!

Good Morning Primary 1, Monday 22nd June 2020

Good morning, I hope you had a lovely weekend. It was nice to see some sunshine, but gosh those were some heavy rain showers yesterday. I was out for a walk and had to take cover, it was so heavy.

Well primary one,  this is our last week of term. I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. It has been a very strange time learning from home, but you should all be so proud at how well you have done.

To celebrate that, have a think and discuss with a grown up what your star moments at home have been.

As this is our last week of term we thought it might be a nice for you to do an all about me for your next teacher.

To do this, please email your teacher with a photo of you, with a few facts or words to describe yourself underneath. We can then pass it onto your teacher for next year. I know they will love to find out a little about you.

We also have this all about me sheet that you could fill out (please only print it out if you can or want to) or make your own, using this as an idea, to bring with you when school starts back after summer.

Hope you have a lovely week.

If you have any questions please send a little message or email. Remember we love to hear from you, even if it is just to say hello.

Story Time From Home – Monday 22nd June

Hello everyone,

I hope that you had a good weekend.

I can hardly believe that it is the last week of term and the last week for Story Time at Home.

There is no special theme this week.  I have chosen all the stories just because I like them and I hope you will like them too. Remember, if you missed any of last week’s stories you can still go back and watch them too.

https://vimeo.com/431273818

I am sure that lots of you will know this story  – it really is disgusting and I do feel sorry for the poor badger. But like lots of stories it does have a happy ending.

Have a good day and if you’re having a sandwich for lunch, I do hope it’s a nice one!

Good Morning Primary 1, Friday 19th June 2020

Good morning. I can’t believe we are almost on our last week of term.

Wellness Walk

As part of our health fortnight, this weekend why don’t you go for a wellness walk.

What can you hear?                                                             Can you hear birds, the breeze in the trees, rustling of leaves?

What can you see?                                                             Do you see flowers, water, buildings, trees?

What do you feel?                                                             Is there anything you can touch? be careful as some things might be jaggy. What does the grass feel like on your hand or how does it feel to walk on?

What can you smell?                                                           Do you smell freshly cut grass, or flowers?

Close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths, listen to your breath and be still.  Do you hear anything else? Do your senses change when you close your eyes and relax?

Have a lovely relaxing weekend Primary one.

Friday Again! 19.06.2020

The weeks are passing so quickly. I can’t believe that next week is the lasy week of Primary 1. It is not how we thought we would spend it but I am sure you are all looking forward to the holidays and then returning to school in August. I know I am!

Here is one of my favourite quotes:

Have a lovely weekend and next week we will be posting the last weekly learning grid for this year which will continue to think about our Health and Wellbeing as well as moving onto Primary 2.

Good morning P1! Friday 19th June 2020

Good morning everybody,

I hope you have been having a lovely week.

Have you ever noticed how nice it makes us feel when you think about all the things in your life that you love or that you are thankful for?

It is a great idea to get into the habit of making some time every now and again to stop and think about all the people and things in our lives that are good.

Here is a short video about being grateful – why don’t you sit down somewhere nice and calm to listen to it and follow the instructions. See how it makes you feel. Click here to go to the video!

I hope watching that video made you feel good and made you think about people who love you, about things you like doing, about things that make you smile, and about how unique and special you all are.

Here is a little Scavenger Hunt that you could try today or over the weekend:

I hope that you find lots of nice things that make you focus on all the great things in your life!

Take care and have a lovely weekend when it comes.

From Mrs Jamieson (and Bennie says hello!)

Good Morning Primary 1, Thursday 18th June

I hope you have had a nice few days and have managed to get out and enjoy some of the lovely weather.

Have you ever heard that music has power?

Music is not only great to listen to but it can help in many ways. Music is great to dance to but also to help us relax. There are many different genres of music, that means different styles.

Do you know any different types of music? Have a listen to this  powerpoint. Which ones did you like the sound of?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uxF9CsxW88

A lot of research has been done and doctors believe music can actually help with our memory. Certain songs remind us of different times in our lives. Music can even help plants grow!Kids dancing of hip-hop and a boy holds a vintage tape recorder ...

Do you have a favourite song?

Today ask the members of your family what their 3 favourite songs are. With the help of a grown up look up the songs and listen to to them. You could even make a family favourite playlist and have a dance party. Which ones do you like best?

I hope you have a lovely day.

Your Primary one teachers.

Story Time From Home – Thursday 18th June

Hello boys and girls

Here is the link for Thursday’s Story Time From Home which once again has a keeping healthy theme.

You might have heard me read this story if you have been in my class but it does have an important message and sometimes it is nice to hear stories more than once.

I hope you are all keeping well and still managing to do some home learning for your grown ups and teachers too!

Good morning Primary 1 and Primary 2/1!

Is the sun shining?

Let’s see if you can help it shine with a Wee Summer Sing!

I’m sure many of you will remember singing this song with me away back at the start of Primary 1! This time the actions are a bit different and a bit trickier, using your throwing, bouncing and catching skills! Just keep trying it until you can do it! You can have a go every time the sun comes out!
