P2/1 – Friday 5th June

Hello everyone

I can hardly believe that it is the end of the first week in June already. Thank you all for continuing to do your best and for sending me all the super pictures and messages with your grown ups help of course!  This week I have loved reading your fairy tale stories – you are doing a great job at home and although I am working in the hub school, I am really missing seeing you all and I know you must be missing each other too.

This is the link for today’s Story Time from Home.  It is about a very cheeky princess and I am so glad that she isn’t in our class! I hope that you enjoy it.

You might have already have heard about this competition for Marches Day but I thought I would include the information for you in case you haven’t. It might  be a good thing to do on a rainy day!

To enter the competition you need to send a photo to the email mentioned but you could send me a picture too.

The link below is to a Facebook video the Deacons Court have posted about making bunting which might help you.

Tomorrow should have been Newlands Day in Bathgate so I have got bunting outside my house and last weekend Jim and I made a rainbow wishing well for the garden. Tufty and Cleo have liked playing with the bunting as it is flapping in the wind – here are a few photos

Have a nice weekend even if the weather isn’t so good and remember to check Twitter later today for this week’s Awesome Achievers.

Good afternoon P1! Thursday 4th June 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your week. What have been the highlights for you?

As you all know, things are a bit different just now and you have all been doing such a great job of managing to stay safe and positive.

You might still find that there are times when you feel anxious or sad though, and this is totally normal. Everybody feels these feelings sometimes, and it is a good idea to explore ways to help you to feel a bit better when you feel like this.

My mum and dad used to say that a problem shared is a problem halved, which means that it is a good idea to share your worries with a grown up you trust because they might be able to help you feel better.

Some people like a cuddle when they feel sad. Other people like to get outdoors and go for a walk. Maybe you could talk to an adult about what kind of things they do to make themselves feel better when they are worried or upset?

When I feel worried or upset or cross, I find it very helpful to take a little bit of time to practise something called mindfulness. Mindfulness is about paying full attention to something and slowing down to really notice what you’re doing. Being mindful is the opposite of rushing. When you’re mindful, you’re taking your time to focus in a relaxed way.

Sometimes in class, we follow the instructions in this Melting video and we focus on our bodies and going from being tense to being relaxed. Perhaps you could try it at home:

I hope you have a wee conversation at home about different things you can do to help if you ever feel worried or upset. Remember that it is okay and normal to feel these things sometimes, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Tell someone you trust how you are feeling and let them help you.

We miss you all so much and can’t wait to see you again!

Take care,

Your P1 Teachers

Good morning Primary 1, Thursday 4th 2020

Good Morning Primary 1, I hope you are all well and have had a good week so far.

Although the sunshine has taken a little break from shining, it doesn’t mean we can’t keep moving and stay active. What things do you like to do each day to keep your body moving? Are you still going on a daily walk? There a re so many beautiful places to walk in Linlithgow, I’d love to know where your favourite place to walk are.

Are you a healthy challenger?

I have put together a challenge grid of different activities for you to do.  There is a mixture of different things for you to try. Keep a little record of the challenges and tick them off as you go and if you can, take photos or videos and share them with us. When you complete activities you can colour the challenge log or make your own way to record what you have done. (Please remember that you don’t need to print the sheets off. Have fun making your own log sheet.)

How are you getting on with eating a rainbow? We’d love to hear or see what you have been trying.

Fairy tales

I’ve put together a little guessing game. How well do you know your fairy tales?

Welcome to Fairy tale Way. Can you guess who lives in each house?

Have a look at the clues on each house to help you guess. I will let you know on Friday morning who lives in the house and see how many you guessed correctly. (This might remind some adults of Through the keyhole “Who lives in a house like this?”)

Can you create your own Fairy tale way. What would the different characters houses look like? Maybe you could get someone to guess who lives in each house. You could even send it to us to guess.

Have a lovely day primary one. Please keep in touch and send an email or comment if you have any questions.

Take care.

Your Primary one teachers

P3B Thursday 4th June

Good morning every! Thank you to everyone who sent Mr brice and me their work this week. You really are working so hard, you should all be very proud of yourself!

I received lots of comments about the shoe in the picture yesterday most people usually see grey/mint green or pink/white.  I see the shoe as grey/mint green and Mr Brice sees it as pink/white. The real colour of the shoe is pink and white. Strange isn’t it? It’s all about perception. Even though you are looking at a picture of the same object your brain processes the information differently from others.

Science

Predictions

Some of you made fantastic predications about the eggs yesterday here they are..
– The egg in vinegar would explode.
– The egg shell would disintegrate in the vinegar.
– The egg in vinegar would float.
– The egg in vinegar would change colour.
– The egg in vinegar would crack

Process

The eggs had been soaking in the vinegar and water for 24 hours hours and this is what they looked like…

Vinegar is a weak acid and the egg shell is made of calcium carbonate. When the two come together they create a chemical reaction that breaks down the calcium carbonate, and produces carbon dioxide (these are the bubbles we can see). As you can see there has been no change to the egg in water. You made predictions that the shell would come off and that the egg would float in the vinegar. The shell is starting to come off and the egg does float, that is why there is a spoon in the picture to keep the egg submerged in the vinegar.

The results

The eggs have been soaking for two days now. All the shell has been broken down and while this was happening the water from the vinegar has been moving inside the egg leaving it larger than the egg in water. See the photo below.

The egg has changed colour, it has become translucent (see through) and because of this we can see the yolk moving around in the egg, we need to be careful with it.

The egg has now become soft, squidgy and has a rubber feel to it. I wonder if I could bounce it??

Elliot enjoyed bursting the egg, he is now crying because he wants to burst all the other eggs!

This is a really fun an easy experiment to try at home all you need is an egg and some vinegar. You could also make coloured bouncy eggs by adding a few drops of food colouring into the water. Please remember this isnt a real bouncy ball, it will burst and make a mess 😀

Someone in our class has been enjoying learning about food chains with this video, I thought I would share it with you all.

Have a great day everyone!

Miss Ross
