Something that has made me happy is all the lovely rainbow artwork that you have been sending me and in particular I have loved the rainbows made with water.  This has inspired my latest video which shows you how to make your own rainbow. Obviously some children know how to do this already and I would have loved it if you could have been my assistants – you know who you are!

Bonjour P1!

I hope you have had a nice start to the week. I hope that this afternoon, or whenever you have some time, you can practise a little more French, using a great website that we now have access to.

Watch this video. Can you guess what our learning focus is today?

ONZE!

Here is a little game that I like to play to practise saying French numbers out loud and in a sequence. You will need to gather your family members and stand them in a circle. You will all need to listen carefully so you are ready to play when it is your turn.

If you need more people you could even video-call someone else and keep them on a laptop screen for added tech points!

  • Stand in a circle and each person in turn calls out numbers in sequence, i.e. un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix, onze.
  • You may choose to call out one number, two numbers or three numbers on your turn, but you have to continue the sequence.
  • Whoever calls out onze has to sit down.
  • The game continues until only one person is left standing!

Linguascope Numbers 1 to 10 User Guide

Now use the above guide to access linguascope, a great website to practise French vocabulary through fun games. It has recordings of all the words so you can improve your pronunciation too.

Good morning P 3!

Are you ready to be Sonic Explorers again?

A couple of weeks ago I asked you to explore the sounds of your garden but today I want you to use your musical imagination to explore further away from home!

One of my favourite places to visit is the beach and I’m sure lots of you do too! I want you to think of sounds you might hear on the beach and what instruments you would choose to make those sounds. I would love to see a sound picture of your beach with some instruments in it! If you don’t want to use instruments you can find sounds at home to help. I like the crunchy sound cornflakes make when you shake the packet! It sounds a bit like walking on sand. If you can find some empty,  clean plastic bottles you can try filling them with different materials for different sounds. Try rice or pasta or of course water! You could even try to make a water bottle organ but make sure you ask an adult first!

                               Make a Water Organ

You will need:

  • 4–10 clear glass bottles, same size
  • Water
  • Food colouring
  • Metal or wooden spoon

Instructions

  1. Fill each bottle with water of varying amounts, until different pitches can be heard.
  2. Add a different food colouring to each bottle to identify the ‘notes’.
  3. Hit with a metal or wooden spoon and listen to the different pitches!

After you have made your water organ, line the bottles up in order by water volume (most water on the left, least water on the right).

Play the water organ by gently hitting each bottle with a metal or wooden spoon/stick. Use the instrument to explore pitch (high/low sounds) and dynamics (loud and quiet).

I see that you have been thinking about all the bears appearing in the windows just now. It’s good fun hunting for them when you are out and about and I’ve spotted quite a few!

It reminds me of the story called “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”

Do you know that story? It is a bit like a song because there is lots of rhythm and rhyme in it. In the story there are lots of places to get through on the hunt and I wonder what instruments or sounds you would choose for them? They are

the long swishy grass                           the bumpy forest

the rushing water                                  the wild snowstorm

the squelchy mud                                 the quiet cave

If you don’t remember the instruments here are some ideas for sounds at home!

Let me know what sounds you would choose and don’t forget the big fright at the end when the bear is found!

P3B Tuesday 12th May

A note for you about Sumdog. The activities we published on there are a guide and we are trying to cover a range of interests and abilities. You can choose which ones you feel are most suitable for you.

Yesterday, I had a go at the sock challenge I posted a couple of weeks ago. I think I changed the rules a little. I would love to find out how long it takes you. I placed the washing basket 4 large (adult) steps away. Remember adults need to do 10 pairs of socks and children 5. Younger ones could do it with the socks already paired up. Here’s my attempt. Enjoy!

PS The child laughing at me is Charlotte, and, yes,  I have grounded her as a consequence!

Good Morning Primary 1!                                                   

We have been so lucky with this weather and I hope the sun keeps shining on you. 

Now, this morning we are learning about pictograms. A pictogram is a chart that uses pictures to represent data. Pictograms are set out in the same way as bar charts, but instead of bars they use columns of pictures to show the numbers involved. It makes it easy for you to count each line.

Now, I have made a short lesson explaining what I want you to do. I have made lots of pictograms from the things I have in my house and when I was out a walk. I would love to see some photos of pictograms you make. Please remember that these do not have to be made on a computer or even drawn on paper. Use objects to make them, be creative. I have just made lots of different ones to give you examples.

To consolidate your learning Topmarks has lots of great games you can play. Try pictograms, pictographs game, fishing and interpreting data. Most importantly have fun!

I miss seeing all of you and hearing all your stories. We are asking that you contact your teacher at least once a week to say hello and let us know that you are safe and well. If you would like to add work to that e-mail then that would be amazing. Remember to do what you can and whatever that is you are doing great!

P3A Tuesday 12th May

Good Morning 3A

Well done to those who gave some of the Sumdog challenges a go yesterday.  I hope these are something you enjoy.   🙂

Please remember the activities we give you are suggestions only,   We try to give a variety of tasks to suit everyone’s interests and levels.  I have set two different times table challenges on Sumdog.  I’d say start with x2, x3, x4, x5 and x10 and see how you find it.  Don’t worry if you’re not quite ready for the trickier tables just yet.

Thanks to those who sent emails yesterday.  I enjoyed seeing some French animals, bar charts and lego models.

Since some of 3A tried data handling work yesterday, here’s a game about tally marks you might want to try today.

P2A Tuesday, 12th May

Good morning, everyone!

Thank you to everyone who has emailed me over the past week.  It is always great to read and see what you have been doing at home with your families.  If you haven’t emailed me yet, please try to email today and let me know what you have been doing at home.

Although it was a little cooler yesterday, I hope you still managed to get outside to play, walk or cycle.  I wonder how many of you prefer to  go for a cycle and how many of you prefer to go for a walk?  You could draw a picture of which one you like the best and email it to me.  That’s quite tricky for me to decide as I love to walk and to cycle so I would have to draw a picture of me walking along the river path and a picture of me cycling along the river path!

We are learning the    qu   sound in our phonics this week.  Here is Geraldine the Giraffe to help you with this sound.

Good Morning Everyone!

How are you all today? I know lots of you are enjoying listening to Miss McDermott’s stories. Did you enjoy “Beware of the Bears”?

I wonder if you know any facts about bears? Perhaps you would like to do some research and see what you can learn. Here is a website that you might want to look at. Mrs Boyle and I would be interested to know what is your favourite bear and why.

As we are learning about 2D shape this week you might want to try and make a bear picture using shapes. If you have a printer you could print out these templates. One uses 5 different shapes but if you would like more of a challenge you could try using 10 different shapes. If you don’t have a printer you could find some shapes to draw round to design your own bear.
