Talented Bunch!

This week one member of our class progressed to the finals of the Kirkhill Talent Show. Well done to Grace, who blew us all way with her singing. A special mention to Ellie, Amy and Holly who were our class finalists. They all did a fantastic job too! Good luck in the final on Tuesday afternoon, Grace!

We have continued to work on telling the time in Maths. We are becoming more confident with quarter past/to but we still need a lot of practice! Please encourage us to look at clocks and home and help us to tell the time in real life situations. We have moved on to looking at the minutes on the clock.

In Numeracy with Mrs. Blair, we have been revisiting doubling numbers and how this links to the 2 and 4 times tables. In pairs we have been designing our own board games to help us with this skill.

In Literacy with Mrs. Blair we have been planning a news article that we will write about the sinking of the Titanic. We have been filling out word banks to help us to remember to use WOW words in our reports.

In Art with Mrs. Clark we designed our own Chinese Tangrams, using 7 2D shapes to create an animal picture. We created horses, fish, swans, cats and dogs.

In Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about the importance of good hand hygiene. We watched a video on how not washing our hands properly can lead to Bacteria and Viruses entering the body.

Another good learning week for P4 :)

This week Primary 4 have been very busy and learning a lot of different things!

In Literacy we were learning to improve our comprehension skills and reading strategies. We also practised our grammar to improve our writing. Lastly we continued our imaginative writing about monsters and fairies.

The class found Numeracy a bit tricky this week as we were learning about column subtraction, where we had to borrow and carry to work out the answer. We enjoyed using our whiteboards to help us practise!

In art we enjoyed designing our own fish that we will painting next week for the Eco committee to put in our garden. How colourful it will be when all the classes have added theirs! 🙂

Primary 5 Update!

This week primary 5 have continued with their topic on Mary, Queen of Scots.  As a home-learning project, we had to create a fact-file on an aspect of our topic which interested us.  The factfiles were fabulous!  They ranged from life in a castle, Mary’s life story, the castles Mary lived in and Mary’s husbands.  Choosing a winner was too difficult for Miss Thomson, so she entrusted this task to Mrs Shankland.  Mrs Shankland was also impressed with the effort and work that had been put in, but eventually chose a winner….  Dillon!!  Dillon’s factfile included photos of him visiting castles Mary had lived in – even rowing a boat out to her prison on Loch Leven island.  Well done, Dillon!

This is what Primary 5 have to say:

“I am enjoying writing my Secret Panel story because it’s fun and you get to type it up on the laptop!”  Callum

“I enjoyed kick rounders because I like learning new things and it’s a fun game!”  Lewis H

“I liked making the castle maps as I thought it was fun using my creativity.  I also enjoyed making our castle kitchen but it was pretty hard to cut it out just perfect.”  Amy C

” I liked doing our Mary Queen of Scots portraits because we got to mix the colours to make new shades.  I’ve also liked turning the classroom into a castle as it’s fun and we all worked as a team!”  Ruby

“I liked making our factfiles because I put a lot of effort into mine and it was really good!  I also enjoyed making our newspaper reports about who murdered Lord Darnley as we don’t know who killed him – and it’s still a mystery today.”  Emilie

“I really liked typing up my Secret Panel story as it’s fun adding big words to it!”  Emma

“I liked maths because we are doing fractions and some are quite easy and some are quite tricky!”  Kasey

“I liked doing my Mary Queen of Scots portraits as we used a kind of grid to draw the face.”  Matthew

Another busy week of learning, Primary 5!  Well done!

Primary 7

This week we have been designing our rockfish for the storytelling area in the garden which is being designed by the ECO team. The rocks are now very colourful and ready to be put out into the area.

We received a P2/1 floorbook on Mrs Weir’s desk during the week and this created a lot of excitement. The floorbook featured lots of pictures of some of us in P1 and followed our topic about Pirates. We had lots of memories to do with this and enjoyed sharing and laughing together. We also read out some of ‘Mrs Froggy’s Adventures’ a diary which some of us kept when we were in P2/3. This week we have also been thinking about our memories to share at the Leavers’ service and have been practising our song on the stage in preparation for this. Remember the Leavers’ Service is onTuesday 27th June at 1.30pm in the school hall.

Gala sports letters have been sent home to the children that this applies to. We are still also awaiting EE2 forms for our trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park. Could these please be sent in a.s.a.p. Thanks!

P6 Update

This week in P6 we’ve been getting really into our class novel, Gone, by Michael Grant.  It’s the story of a town which suddenly finds itself cut off from the world, and in which all the inhabitants over the age of 15 have suddenly disappeared.  It’s quite a difficult book and has some really interesting themes and we’ve really enjoyed discussing it and getting into the characters and the storyline.  We’ve been writing our own stories based on the book and will be looking at character studies too.

We’ve also been starting to practise our We Go Together song and dance which we’ll be performing at a local Celebrating Success Awards Ceremony next Friday.  It will be our last chance to be up singing and dancing together in P6 so we’re looking forward to it.

Also we were super excited this week by the decisions made for next year’s house team.  The children who interviewed and were chosen were:

Thapelo – Head Boy
Leah – Head Girl
Alfie – Deputy Head Boy
Anya – Deputy Head Girl
Amy – Strathbrock Captain
Ailey – Cardross Captain
Sophia –  Buchan Captain
Milissa – Almondell Captain
Eve & Caitlin – Strathbrock Vice Captains
Temperance & Murrin – Cardross Vice Captains
Emma & Lee J – Buchan Vice Captains
Umme & Morgan – Almondell Vice Captains
