Primary 1 week

After a full week of learning the children seem to be settled in.  We have started our sounds, m and c.  P1 have been doing a fantastic job learning their sounds and with their formation of these letters.

Also this week we have been outside practising our counting in maths with activities including counting bubbles and hopscotch.  Further to this we have began to work on our numbers.  It was number 1 this week, which involved practising formation and grouping objects.

On Wednesday, Travelling by Tuba came for a visit.  It was great fun and allowed the children to see all of the different types of musical instruments as well as some being allowed to have a go at playing them.

Our topic has been ‘All about me and My Family’ which the children love to tell us about.

We are looking forward to maths week and all the lovely activities planned next week.

P3 update

We have had a very busy week! On Wednesday we were lucky enough to get a visit from “Travelling by Tuba”.  We got to see lots of different and exciting instruments from all over the world such as the Alpine horn.  Chris and Stuart explained to us all how they worked and demonstrated what they sounded like….a few of us even got to have a go!  After the performance, we had a workshop with them and learnt how to play instruments along to song called “Let’s all do the Salsa.”  It was really fun! We even got to perform it to the whole school! Here are a few pictures of us practicing during the workshop.

During Art we have been looking at how we can compose a picture using different lines.  We each made a fabulous picture of flowers, each unique as we used different squiggly, straight and curly lines.

We have been continuing to look at punctuation, thinking about where in a sentence we use capital letters, full stops, exclamation marks and question marks.  We are going to use our skills to write about our time with the “Travelling by Tuba.”

We are looking forward to Maths week next week and to seeing some of you at our Maths with Munchies shared start on Monday morning.

Primary 6/5 – Week 3

Another busy week in Primary 6/5…

In our literacy this week we have been continuing to focus on our persuasive writing. We were asked the question: Should fidget spinners be allowed in school? We had discussions and thought about the arguments for and against and started planning our response using mind maps and burger plans. There were some great points made! We have started reading the BFG as our class novel. We used Hot Seating to ask witnesses about what they saw when Sophie was kidnapped! We also made and painted giants based on the description we heard in the story.

In maths we have been busy working on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and even 1000s. Some of us have been exploring odd and even numbers. We’ve enjoyed playing lots of games on the interactive whiteboard. We really like playing this game (click to view) to help us with our estimating work. Some of us managed to get it exactly right! Have a go at home!

In P.E we are focusing on the skills of working together effectively as a team. We took part in different challenges to help our communication skills…

It’s been a great week and here are some of our highlights…

Ruby – My highlight this week was making the giants because it was fun.

Alexander – I also liked doing the giants because my team worked well together.

Layla – I like doing the giants because I thought my team worked well together.

P7 – Week 3

Highlights

This week our highlights were mostly of visiting the Risk Factory.  We all enjoyed our trip and learned a lot.  Unfortunately we cannot tell you more!  We don’t want to spoil the fun for the future P7s, but it was fantastic. 🙂

We continued working with place value in maths and using numbers up to hundreds of millions.  We are all becoming really confident with this and it is helping with written addition and subtraction calculations using large numbers.

We found out more about P7 Transition Camp this week and many of us are keen to go and excited for the opportunity to try the activities and meet potential new friends.

Today we made VR headsets!  We are planning to use these to enhance our learning and will be great for our topic of Our Dynamic Earth.

We are looking forward to Scottish Maths Week next week and to meeting anyone that joins us for Meet the Teacher on Thursday

Have a great weekend everyone!

“We got Stompy. He is a dinosaur teddy in our classroom, and he likes to stomp.” – Natalie

“We did PE. We did yoga when it was raining. In the hall, we did circuits. We did star jumps and we felt our pulse and we were jumping over the white lines and we were cycling with our legs and we were skipping.” – Hunfah

A Good Week in P7/6

In our context for learning ‘Our Dynamic Earth’ we have been learning about climate change. We have learned that pollution is damaging the Earth. This week the focus was on the ecosystem ‘The Rainforest’. We discovered that it rains a lot in a tropical forest, that is very humid and about the different layers of the forest. We also did some mapping skills and located the rainforests on a world map. We were set an art task which was to create a collage of what the rainforest looks like. Mrs Weir is impressed with our art and we are going to display this in the class.

In our number work we have been focusing on multiplication. We started the week by focusing on the different words which mean the same as multiplication. We have had lots of practice at written multiplication sums which used all of our tables knowledge. Some of us still need to practice our times tables. Some of us discovered that if we could multiply a 2, 3 or 4 digit number by a single digit then we could multiply numbers with 8 digits.

We were treated to a musical performance by ‘Travelling with Tuba’ which let us see lots of different instruments from around the world and how they are played.

Primary 7s enjoyed their trip to the Risk Factory where they learned how to deal with emergency situations.

In P.E. we have continued to work on our own fitness by participating in fitness circuits and races. Hopefully, this will increase our stamina. Please remember to bring outdoor P.E. kit and appropriate shoes for P.E. days.

Next week we are looking forward to Maths Week where we will have a lot of Maths linked activities. Meet The Teacher is also on Thursday afternoon where we look forward to seeing lots of our parents.

Expansion of free Early Learning and Childcare

As you’ll be aware the Scottish Government is planning to nearly double the hours of free early learning and childcare by 2020. Because the views of parents and carers are crucial for the success of this expansion, the Government has commissioned independent researchers to undertake a survey of parents of 0-5 year old children.

Please could you take a few minutes to share your views in a short survey. The survey is carried out for the Scottish Government by Craigforth, an independent research company.

www.bit.ly/elc-survey

All parents taking part will have the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw and have the chance to win one of 10 x £100 cash prizes.
