What a busy week in P3!
In literacy we have been looking at prediction. We did this through the book “The Day the Crayons Quit”. In groups, we picked a different colour of crayon and predicted why they decided to quit their job. Once we thought of possible reasons, we completed a “hot seat” activity in which the rest of the class could ask us questions. We all had coloured headbands to help us get into character.
In Maths we have been continuing to work on counting in increments of 2, 3 and 10, both forwards and backwards. This is really helping us to have a deeper understanding of number.
We are been learning to recognise and understand colours in French….Miss Stevens has been so impressed with how good we are at it.
We we also were lucky enough to get a visit from Mr Stewart, a P.E specialist. It was so fun learning about gymnastics and getting to use the apparatus. Look at what a great job we did!
Parent consultation appointments have been sent home with us, however, Miss Stevens has noticed a few that accidentally got left behind. She will make sure they go into school bags on Monday. 🙂

Primary 1 have had a busy week doing loads of activities.
We have been concentrating on learning and forming our new sounds, t and n. They have been doing really well with all the sounds and have now began to recognise the sounds in all areas of their day. We have also been practising our names.
In numeracy we have been continuing to learn to understand the quantity of the number and how to write it. This week we have been learning about 0-5 concentrating on understanding zero. Also in maths, we have still been learning about shape but this week in real life context.
In our outdoor learning we were building dams from our visit last week from the Learning Zoo last week. We all really enjoyed this.
Our topic has now changed to People who help us, including the Police, the fire services, doctors, nurses and many more. This week we have been learning and discussing the Police. They were learning about emergency services and who would help them in different circumstances. Also, Primary 1 have decided to change their home corner into a police station which is very exciting for them.
This week also had our first Kirkhill Chatter and Primary 1 did very well. This is when we all mix into our houses and are split into groups. We were all celebrating about European Sports Day. It involved us discussing what we think about PE.

This week in Primary 5 we have had lots of fun learning!
This week we had our first Kirkhill Chatter session where we celebrated European School Sport Day by discussing our opinions on Physical Education and taking part in some fun active sports activities. We also had a special visitor in school called Mr Stewart, who taught us new Gymnastic skills in P.E this week. We finished reading our class novel, James and the Giant Peach and watched the movie after to see the similarities and differences between book and film narratives. On Thursday, we went to the garden during our Science lesson and planted our very own pot with sunflower seeds. We will be observing them grow into each stage of the life cycle over the next 3 weeks. In Literacy, we were writing about who we feel is a special person in our lives and some of us shared our work with the class and on Dojo with our parents. In Maths and Numeracy, we have been practicing our 2,3 & 4 time tables along with adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers with multiples of 10.
We would like to share our ‘Best Bits’ of the week:
Abi enjoyed P.E because she had a different teacher and she took part in new activities.
Holly also enjoyed doing gymnastics in P.E with Mr Stewart as she learned new things.
Steven loved P.E, especially swinging from the ropes!
Kiera liked P.E because she got to jump from the horse onto the mat.
Holly P enjoyed P.E because she could climb up a bench on to high bars!
Alanna enjoyed P.E, especially when jumping on the horse and she was grateful when Sarah gave her a little push up.

Oliwia liked writing about her Mum for her Special Person writing and drawing her after.
Grace. S enjoyed doing P.E because it was really fun and she loves gymnastics.
Robert enjoyed climbing up the bars when he was doing P.E with Mr Stewart.
Louie enjoyed writing about his step-dad for his Special Person writing and sharing it on Dojo.
Sarah enjoyed designing her own front cover for our class novel, James and the Giant Peach.
Grace B enjoyed planting her own sunflower seeds and she is looking forward to watching them grow!
Nico and Reese liked P.E because they got to show everyone how good they were at climbing up the rope!
Ellie enjoyed because she got to play on the climbing frame for the first time.

Primary 2 has been busy practising their reading, writing, adding and subtracting, and getting lots of physical exercise this week.
The children did some descriptive writing about a place, being sure to use as many describing words as possible. We also did more phonics work, reviewing some sounds and spelling patterns we learned last year, and looking at some new ones. We practised writing words with these sounds, and creating words using magnetic letters on whiteboards.
In maths, we reviewed some of the different vocabulary we use to talk about subtracting, such as take away, minus, find the difference between, and less than. We practised mental maths as well as written maths, and made sure we tried lots of different way to find our answers, including using number lines, rekenreks, or counting our fingers or objects.
In health and wellbeing, we talked about emotions. We looked at lots of different feelings we might feel, and discussed the sorts of things that might make us feel that way. In PE, we enjoyed running about on the Muga and doing some yoga in the classroom!
For our dinosaur topic, the class went outside with metre sticks and measured how long different dinosaurs were, marking the lengths with chalk on the ground. The longest dinosaur we explored was Brachiosaurus, at a whopping 26 metres long! The class did a great job of finding the information they needed from their fact sheets and using the metre sticks to measure on the ground. Well done! Below are some pictures of the children measuring outside:
Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 7 have been continuing to learn about climate change and we looked at the grasslands of Africa. We learned what animals there would be and what the main features are. We discovered that grasslands are found in between deserts and rain forests and because of desertification the desert is moving onto the grasslands endangering many species. We made clay models of the grasslands and will paint these next week when dry.
On Tuesday we had a visit from Broxburn Academy maths teachers who worked with us on measure. Some of us found the work easy while others thought is was more tricky. On Thursday we were marshalling the P6 cross country event.
Today we had our very first Kirkhill Chatter – all about P.E. We had the chance to say what we enjoyed about P.E. and the activity we take part in outside of school. We then got to do an activity. Some of us played number football, some did Just Dance and others used hula hoops.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
