P4/3 Update

It’s been a busy week as always in Primary 4/3.  We have started working on our new topic Around the World in 80 Days.  We were visited by an exciting guest – a bear who had been marooned in his hot air balloon in our classroom, named Passepartout!  He has given us some exciting challenges and after we managed to set him free on his journey again he sent us a letter to allow us to track his progress around the world.  We are going to learn all about his travels, as well as the countries that he visits.  Here we are with Passepartout and his balloon!

We have been working very hard on our phonics this term and have been decoding, blending, segmenting and building words.  We have been learning all about short vowel sounds and rules with a strong ck and a double l.  We are beginning to spell much trickier words and working really hard with all our literacy.

Also this week, our P3 children had some exciting activities.  Firstly, on Monday, they worked with the other P3 class and James Pegg from Albyn Park on lots of interesting sports activities – this will be continuing for most of this term.  Also, they began work on our Nativity Play where they will be playing the important role of the choir – the singing was already sounding great!

P7/6 News

This week we have been learning about the Scottish Poppy Appeal. We have learned about what the Poppy Appeal is and how the poppies are made. Next week we are going to be writing acrostic poems about the act of Remembrance and learn more about Remembrance activities which take place around the world.

We are now on stage during our Pantomime rehearsals and so far are doing great. People have put so much effort into learning their lines and the songs and it is all starting to come together.

In Maths, some of us learned more about 3D shapes and their properties. Most of us learned lots of new words associated with circles such as circumference, diameter and radius. Well done to Amy our pupil of the week for remembering all of the tricky words!

In writing, we wrote imaginative stories entitled Dracula’s Whitby and had lots of discussion around the legend of Dracula and the town of Whitby. Our task was to use good sentence openers and lots of description to engage our reader. We then used self-assessment and peer assessment to assess our use of these in our writing.

Remember Individual/Family photographs will be taken on Monday 6th November.

Pumpkin Soup

The children were learning to make some tasty Pumpkin Soup from our Halloween pumpkins today.

They peeled the vegetables and chopped them up to put into the soup maker.

We ate snack altogether allowing everyone to have a wee taste.

Most of our boys and girls gave their soup the thumbs up.

Sophie said it was delicious, Tom said it smelled so good, Harris said it was lovely soup and Isaac said he liked his soup.

The children then decided to plant their pumpkin seeds in the nursery garden to see if they would grow.

We will be sending out the recipe next week for anyone keen to try this at home with their child. Let us know how you got on!

P7 Update – Week 10

This week in Primary 7 we finished our Halloween enterprise and we are now preparing for the PSC Christmas Fayre.  We hope everyone can come along and help us raise more for the end of year trip and party!

In Maths, we have been looking at shape – consolidating our knowledge of the properties of 2D and 3D shape and how 2D shapes can be made into nets to make 3D shapes.  Some of us have been learning about circles and can use pi to calculate the circumference of a circle.

We have been looking at inference and deduction in Literacy.  We read a passage and had to work out the answers which weren’t explicitly stated in the text.  In writing we focused on WOW words and brainstormed all the spooky adjectives we could think off.  We then used these to write a spooky imaginative story.

We have been rehearsing our Panto songs and they sound great!  Most of the cast know all their words now and we are looking at adding gesture and more expression to our acting.  We know we need to overact in a panto to make it comedic.

REMINDER: On Monday the photographer will be in taking individual and family photos.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, and GOOD LUCK to our football team taking part in their first tournament today.

Primary 6/5

Literacy

We have continued looking at poetry this week with a focus on shape poetry. We thought about the 5 senses to inspire us to come up with similes, adjectives and metaphors in our Bonfire Night poem. They look great!

We looked at examples of similes, metaphors and adjectives and sorted them into groups. We know a simile has ‘like’ or ‘as’ to compare two things to make our writing more interesting. A metaphor does the same thing but doesn’t use ‘like’ or ‘as’.

Maths

We have been learning our 3, 4 and 8 times table. We’ve been learning in different ways. Mrs Thomson wrote the stations of each times table and we had to shout them out. As we got better, she rubbed them off the board and we had to remember them. We had a colouring by numbers Bonfire Night sheet where we had to answer the question and colour the squares the right colour to reveal the picture. We played lots of games, like Multiple Frenzy, on the smart board to help us improve.

Highlights

Justin – I enjoyed learning to pass in rugby. I know that we can’t pass forwards in a game.

Dillon – I enjoyed making the Black Houses as part of our Highland Clearances topic.

Joshua – I enjoyed making our shape poems

Lewis H – I enjoyed watching the Primary 1’s assembly.

Gemma – I enjoyed doing our multiplication colouring sheet.

Maddison – I enjoyed doing our healthy eating challenge. Everybody did really well!
