Here are some of the things we got up to this week:

“We did PE with Mr. Stewart and we were catching a ball and we ran around and when Mr. Stewart blew a whistle we had to go to a cone.” – Mollie

P2/1 update

It has been a busy two weeks in P2/1 as the class and I have all been getting to know each other.

Many of us have started using the new phonics reading books that have recently arrived in class and we are learning to develop our fluency and confidence in reading.  We also started our Vibrant Vocabulary work by looking at the book ‘Pumpkin Soup’ complete with our own pot of pumpkin soup to investigate and last week we looked at a fireworks story called ‘Sparks in the Sky.’  We have been writing personal stories over the last two weeks learning to sound out our new words and use connectives.  We have also been spelling words in different ways including whiteboards, sticks, leaves and wiki sticks.

In maths we have been learning to count in 10s and 2s and doing lots of practice counting out objects up to 10.  We have also been learning to collect information and make it into a graphs and we started with a big birthday bar graph for the whole class.

In RME the children were learning about firework safety and also Remembrance Sunday.  They used cotton buds to paint beautiful poppy pictures.  We have also been learning about the difference between needs and wants and our rights.

Primary 1 update

Primary 1 have been learning loads of new things this week.

In our sounds we have been learning two new sounds.  This week was b and h.  We are still enjoying using our sounds mats to practice our blending of our sounds.  We have been learning words that include our new sounds, for example ham, ban, hen, cob, sob, hat and him.  We will work on listening for the sound that comes at the start, middle and end of a word.

Primary 1 have been very excited this week as they have been reading their first reading book.  In VIBRANT vocabulary we have been learning sophisticated vocabulary through the book ‘Sparks in the Sky’.  These words include twinkled, dazzling, delicious, splodge and swirling.  We also learnt about answering statements as true or false.  Also created our own rockets with bright colours.

In Writing we wrote about our favourite part of our assembly last week and about fireworks.  We focused on the colours and sounds that they make.

In Maths we were continuing to sequence numbers and adding two numbers to make 5.

Primary 1 were introduced to weight. We had fun exploring the pan balances to help us to compare the weight of various classroom objects. We were talking a lot about the objects and used “heavy” and “light” to describe them.  Also were introduced to one line of symmetry.

We have also learnt about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies.  We watched a video about what happened to the soldiers and then made a picture of poppies in a field using paint and cotton buds.

Also in class this week we had a visitor, Mr Turnbull who read us ‘The Gruffalo’ story and discussed with us how to change our mindset, understand our emotions and give us confidence in our learning and anything we do, just like the mouse in ‘The Gruffalo’.

Also Primary 1 are learning to reflect on what they have been learning in school to get them to understand their learning and the next steps in their learning.  They have been beginning to do this through circle time.

We have been continuing to learn the nativity songs which the children are enjoying.

P3 update

Wow! What a busy week in P3.  We all worked really hard all week practising for our assembly today.  We hope you enjoyed it because we loved performing for everyone.  We also have been hard at work organising all of our fundraising ideas.  Our bake sale today was a roaring success with of money raised already!  We have still soooo many yummy treats left over that we will be holding another one on Monday.  So remember to bring some money if you wish to purchase some treats.  A big thankyou to all who contributed to our bake sale.

In literacy we have been looking at some information writing, making posters to provide the school with information about Children in Need.  We also wrote invitations for people to come to our bake sale.  Miss Stevens was so impressed with the brilliant work we produced.

We have been really enjoying working with James Pegg on Mondays with the other P3 from P4/3 as well as the P3s form Dechment Infants.  It has been great learning all about the things that help us to be fit and healthy.  We learnt lots of interesting facts, for example, we should be drinking 2 litres of water everyday!

We are really looking forward to continuing our Children in Need fundraising next week as we begin to sell merchandise as well as run the competitions! Also don’t forget to have a little look for any round pounds that may still be at home that could be donated to Children in Need.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Primary 6/5

Maths

This week we have been doing more practice on our 4 times table. We have been learning how to divide by 3, 4 or 8. So we know that division is a multiplication question backwards! We did some multiplication triangles to help us.

Literacy

We have been working on our free verse poems. Free verse poems do not have to rhyme and can be made up of sentences or single words. We thought about Remembrance Day to inspire us. We looked at pictures of war and wrote down what was happening and how they might be feeling in those situations. We typed them up, printed and coloured the background in. We are very happy and proud with them.

We had another visit from Mr Turnbull who is our very own Brain Coach. He is teaching us how to control emotions and our minds. He told a story to encourage us to be successful and confidence in our learning and what we can achieve. He gave us a great card to remember these things!

The Primary 5’s also did some beautiful Remembrance Day art while the Primary 6’s were practicing for their Christmas Panto. They look great!

We’ve had a few technical issues with photos but we will try and get some up of our poems and pictures next week!

Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

P7/6 News

This week we have really stepped up our Pantomime practising. The songs sound good and the acting and gesture is getting better every day. We have now started to focus on stage directions and getting people into the correct positions in different scenes. We are looking forward to being able to perform this on the 14th December @ 7pm. Letters about costumes also went home on Thursday, please bring in costumes as soon as possible.

We were also introduced to our new class pet Rory. We read a story about Rory where his owner forgot to feed him, walk him, pet him and so he felt very lonely. By the end of the short story we found out that Rory’s owner had neglected him because he had drunk too much alcohol. We then learned about some of the different effects which alcohol can have on the human body and also on members of the community and some pets! We are looking forward to learning a little bit more about this next week.

In writing we focused on writing acrostic poems using Remembrance as our theme. We have learned lots about what happens at a Remembrance service, what Poppy Scotland does for ex-serviceman and women called veterans and about the Poppy Factory in Edinburgh. We have produced some very thoughtful pieces of writing which we will display in the class.

In Maths we have moved on to learning about different types of angles. We learned these through the ‘Angles Family’ who are made of all different angles. We learned the different degrees which different angles are. Why don’t you ask us about the difference between acute, obtuse, right and reflex angles?
