This week we have been practising our Pantomime lots on the stage and in the classroom to make sure we are ready for our school dress rehearsal on the 7th December. This is very exciting and getting closer quite quickly. Some costumes have started to come in from home – thank you! We would really appreciate the clothes being in school by next Friday the 1st December.
We have also worked on our Christmas Enterprise for the Christmas Fayre this week. We had to make our products, make advertisements and think about how much each item needs to be sold for to make a profit. The P6s are selling reindeer dust and noses. The Primary 7s have a variety of activities including a Chocolate Tombola, Guess the Birthday, Lucky Sqaures, Lucky Lollies and Sweetie Cones. If you can please come and support us next Wednesday 29th November @ 6pm.
This week we also watched the movie ‘Holes’ after we completed the novel in class. We had to look out for the similarities and differences between the movie and the book. We found lots and are going to discuss these next week.
Next week we have lots of Book Week activities going on in school. P7s are visiting Broxburn Academy for the Panto ‘Wizard of Oz’ and the Robotarium at Heriot Watt on Tuesday afternoon.

This was another busy week, with lots of rain as well. Here are some comments from the children about what we learned this week:
“We had the P5 assembly today.” – Taylor-Jack
“We did science with Miss Thomson. We made solar systems in a bottle. You just put little pom poms in the bottle. The pom poms are meant to be the planets. We put stars using glitter, then put water and food colouring. Then you put the lid on and shake it.” – Natalie
“We did practises for our nativity. We learned new songs and we had lots of fun.” – Grace
“We made instructions about how to wash your hands. Some of the words that we have use are first, next, then, and finally.” – Mollie
“We did a bingo game about 3D shapes. The teacher says a 3D shape, and you put a counter on it.” – Calum
“We did our reading groups. Our book was Lucy Loses Red Ted.” – Lauren
“Two people in our class have reached Step 5!” – Nicole
“We worked in our maths workbook. One of the pages was a 100 square and we have to fill in the missing numbers and then colour some numbers in a certain colour. I got Star Mathematician.” – Lily
“We played a game where we had to match the shape to the word and if we got it right then we got a point.” – Sebastian
“We had the yoga mats out doing yoga about The Hungry Caterpillar.” – Sam
Have a lovely weekend!

P3 would just like to say HUGE thankyou to all that helped with our fundraising. We made a massive £407 which I know will make a big difference to a lot of children’s lives. Your generosity has been overwhelming and very much appreciated!
We will be coming around the classes in the next few days to gather entries for the “design your own coin” competition, and the winner will be announced by Friday!
Thankyou again!

Last week was another whirwind of activity in Primary 2/1. In literacy we were learning the new sounds of u and d and some of us were learning about ‘oa’ as in coat. We were working hard on out letter formation and our spelling using the rules and sounds we have learned. We have been exploring different letter shapes and trying lots of different reading games. In our reading work this week we have also been looking at the rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and worked in trios to identify other possible adventures for the character.
In maths we were working hard on our counting skills. Some of us were counting groups of objects within ten and making up to ten from different starting numbers. The other group were making numbers with tens and ones and are really starting to get the hang of counting out the tens first and then adding on the ones. We also did some measuring during outdoor learning. We used our hands and fingers to measure leaves and sticks and put them in order of size.
In our topic work we continued to learn about things we have and what we need and this week we were applying our knowledge to the story of Cinderella. Using our floorbook to work together and record our thoughts we talked about what we think would make Cinderella happy.
Finally a reminder that on Wednesday 22nd November we have a shared start in the morning and parents and carers are invited to join us in the classroom until 9.10 to see some of the learning activities we have been engaged in.

Last week we rounded off our topic on angles by learning how to use a protractor to measure and draw angles. We all thought that we were very good at this and have some great examples in our jotters. We then had a few mini-assessments to complete which show us how well we are doing in our learning and what we need to improve on. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at money linked to our Enterprise topic.
We are still working hard to learn our lines, songs and routines as the Pantomime approaches. We have now added in lights and microphones and it is getting very exciting. Over the next few days we will be practising getting on and off the stage during scenes. Please remember that all costumes should be in school by the 1st December.
Next week is Book Week Scotland and the class will have lots of activities to take part in. For Home Learning the class will have Miss Henderson’s Bookmark challenge. On Monday 27th parents/carers are invited to join us for Reading with Rolos at the end of the day (2.30 – 3.15pm) to participate in some reading activities. Thursday 22nd – the children are invited to take part in the Big Bedtime Read and can come into school in their PJs and onesies. Children in P7/6 are also allowed to bring in blankets, cushions etc. so that they can make a comfortable reading environment.

It’s been a busy week this week for primary 1. We have been learning a lot of new things.
In literacy we have been learning our new sounds, ‘u’ and ‘d’. We were using these sounds to blend new words. We had to think of anything beginning with the word ‘u’ and ‘d’. Some of the words we thought of were dad, umbrella, dog and duck. We created umbrellas to help us understand ‘u’ and created ducks with feathers to understand ‘d’.
We started looking at the book ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’ this week. We have been using this for our writing. We wrote about if we could choose anyone or anything to come to tea who would we like to come to tea. Also we learned how to write a menu for a café as in the book the family have to go out for food because the tiger ate everything. Primary 1 are enjoying this book and all the activities.
In number work we were continuing to work on addition to 5 and working on our numbers from 5‑10 by counting out objects.
We continued looking at weight. This included a sorting activity which involved heavy and light objects.
We were outside again this week and were using our measuring learning from a few weeks ago by choosing sticks and leaves and measuring them with our feet and hands.
In PE this week our focus was using our fine and gross motor skills by using a bean bag and a hoop. This involved working with a partner to throw as many as we could in the hoop. Miss Brown was very impressed at all of Primary 1 and the distance the hoop was moved to.
We got given our Nativity parts this week so everyone has been very excited. We have been learning the Nativity songs with P2/1, P2 and P3. The songs are very catchy, we can’t stop singing them.

This week in P7…
We have been practicing our Panto frequently as our performance date is fast approaching. Please keep Thursday 14th December @ 7pm free! We are super excited to perform Puss in Boots.
We have been consolidating our knowledge of angles in maths; classifying them and measuring different types. We have been learning to calculate complimentary and supplementary angles.
We have worked on key grammar and spelling skills this week that will help us in all our written work. Our main focus this week was pluralising words and sorting confusing words.
Next week:
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND
