A week in P6…

Well, another busy week for us!

This week we have had our second and third Tobacco Talk (re-arranged due to Scottish Opera) and we took a really active part in learning about the dangers of smoking.  We understand now how important it is to have all this information to allow us to make informed decisions when we are older and have to make certain choices.  We also learned the importance of being confident enough to make our own decisions.  We thought about ‘Tempting Situations’ and discussed and practised different strategies we could use in future.  We were able to watch ‘Smoky Sue’ puff on a cigarette and were shocked by how much tar went into her ‘lungs’ – we also couldn’t believe that it’s the same sticky tar that’s on the roads!  In session 3, we learned about ‘Smoke Free Zones’ and how second-hand smoke can harm children (and other adults and pets!)  We all brought home a ‘Smoke Free Homes and Cars Pledge’ to discuss with our adults.  We’ve had a few signed and returned already – thank you!  Please return these to school by Monday as they have to be sent off so we can receive our certificates.

Several of our class sang with the school choir on Tuesday night, at a Burns Competition at St Kentigern’s Academy.  Well done to all the choir, who sang beautifully and represented our school really well.  Well done also to Holly, Emily and Abbie (and Evie M from P6/5) who represented our school at the P6 Euroquiz today.  You have all worked extremely hard to learn lots of information about the EU – and thanks to the adults at home who supported them with this.

We had a visit from a maths teacher from Bathgate Academy, who showed us an excellent strategy for multiplication called ‘Doubling and Halving’.  Why don’t you ask us what we learned?

We also found out this week that our rocket seeds have made it safely back down to earth!  They returned with an astronaut from the USA called Scott Kelly who has just returned from a record-breaking 12 months in space!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend (:
