P4 Update

It was lovely to hear all about everyone’s snow day adventures!  Sounds like there was lots of fun in the snow, but lots of warm snuggling with hot chocolate too 🙂

It’s been a very busy week in P4.  On Thursday we celebrated our belated World Book Day with lots of different activities.  We enjoyed a presentation from children’s author, Mike Nicholson who told us all about his series of books about the ‘Museum Mystery Squad’.  He told us about his inspirations and how to come up with good ideas for a mystery story.  We enjoyed working out a few puzzles too – including hieroglyphics and anagrams!  We even have a signed copy of ‘Museum Mystery Squad and the Case of the Curious Coins’ for our class.  We participated in the book swap; lots of us are looking forward to reading our new books at home.  We created our own bunting about our favourite books and shared our home learning models of our favourite characters.  Miss Thomson was very impressed with the creativity – well done, Primary 4!  We finished off our novel, ‘Kaspar Prince of Cats’ which most of us really enjoyed and have chosen ‘There’s a Werewolf in my Tent’ by Pamela Butchart for our next novel.

In maths, we worked on consolidating our written and mental addition strategies.  Lots of us are enjoying our chimney sums, and most of us are now able to carry tens confidently.  We have been working on time including quarter past/quarter to, five minute intervals and converting between digital and analogue.  A few of us have even figured out how to tell the time on 24 hour clocks!  Keep up the good work, P4.

Today we enjoyed working in our groups for Kirkhill Chatter.  Lots of us got to go outside in the spring sunshine for a playground and garden clean-up or to help develop some playground games to encourage lots of positive play together at break and lunch time.  The others were learning all about Fair Trade and how this can make a big difference in the life of farmers and workers all over the world.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
