This week we have been really busy getting organised for our assembly about World Book Day. We were excited to dress as some of our favourite book characters and authors. We were really excited to share all of the reading activities which have happened in Kirkhill over the last few months too. Thank you to the parents/carers who made it along this morning to see us perform.

In our context for learning we were learning about Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. We were very interested in his mission and about how it must have felt to be the first man on the moon. This linked to our writing for the week and we had to write a diary from the perspective of Neil Armstrong which we found tricky and we looked at different examples of diary entries.

In reading we have been focusing on the skill of skimming and scanning. We have completed cloze procedure activities where we need to make sure if the missing word fits into the sentence or not. We will be completing more of these over the term.

In Maths, we have started our learning about fractions. We had to tell Mrs Weir about all of the different things which we already knew about fractions. Some of us have been learning about finding fractions of amounts and some of us have been learning about equivalent fractions and using our magnetic fractions wall to help us.

Next week we will be celebrating World Book Day where we can dress up as our favourite characters on Thursday 1st March. We will also be receiving a workshop from the author Mike Nicholson. The class have got letters detailing the books which will be available to purchase and get signed on the day. Money needs to arrive before or on next Thursday.

Have a lovely weekend 🙂
