Primary 1 update

It’s been a busy week this week for primary 1. We have been learning a lot of new things.

In literacy we have been learning our new sounds, ‘u’ and ‘d’. We were using these sounds to blend new words.  We had to think of anything beginning with the word ‘u’ and ‘d’.  Some of the words we thought of were dad, umbrella, dog and duck.  We created umbrellas to help us understand ‘u’ and created ducks with feathers to understand ‘d’.

We started looking at the book ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’ this week. We have been using this for our writing.  We wrote about if we could choose anyone or anything to come to tea who would we like to come to tea.  Also we learned how to write a menu for a café as in the book the family have to go out for food because the tiger ate everything.  Primary 1 are enjoying this book and all the activities.

In number work we were continuing to work on addition to 5 and working on our numbers from 5‑10 by counting out objects.

We continued looking at weight. This included a sorting activity which involved heavy and light objects.

We were outside again this week and were using our measuring learning from a few weeks ago by choosing sticks and leaves and measuring them with our feet and hands.

In PE this week our focus was using our fine and gross motor skills by using a bean bag and a hoop. This involved working with a partner to throw as many as we could in the hoop.  Miss Brown was very impressed at all of Primary 1 and the distance the hoop was moved to.

We got given our Nativity parts this week so everyone has been very excited. We have been learning the Nativity songs with P2/1, P2 and P3.  The songs are very catchy, we can’t stop singing them.
