P1 Assembly week update

First, Miss Brown and Mrs Robertson would like to say that we are really proud of every person in primary 1.  You all did fantastic at performing your first assembly and all looked great.  🙂

This week we have been learning new sounds, e and f.  We have been learning to blend all our sounds, for example, men, fan and pet.  Also we have been practising our sight words, the, a, The and is.  A new task the whole of this week was our vibrant vocabulary.  This week it involved the book ‘Pumpkin Soup’ which involved different activities all week to learn 5 vibrant vocabulary.  These were scoffed, sobbed, plodded, rumpus and shrieked.  Mrs Robertson focused on answering the 5 w questions (who, where, when, why,  what) about our story ‘Pumpkin Soup’. She showed us a video with a song to help us to remember what each of the questions meant. We are getting better at thinking about the key points in the story to help us to answer the 5 ws.

In maths we have been introduced to a new strategy, Numicon.  We got to experiment with them and learnt what each Numicon piece represents.

We were trying to order numbers and using the names of numbers too.

We also cut out some spooky skeletons of different sizes. We enjoyed this as we read the story “Funny Bones” that has two skeletons (one big and one small). We glued the skeletons in size order and used cubes to measure them. Using chalk, we wrote how many cubes long each of our skeletons were.

Most of our wee has been concentrating on our assembly.

We started learning our songs for our upcoming Nativity with P2/1, P2 and the P3s. We are excited to learn our roles in the coming weeks.

Just another reminder that homework has changed to going home on a Tuesday and back in to school for a Monday.
