Spring Chicken!

You will now have been told about our Assembly which is the week we come back after the Easter Break.  We have begun rehearsals now as they will have a 2 week break in between now and our performance! The more we learn before the holidays, the better! Please can you help your child learn their lines if they have any ASAP and help them with their song words. No costumes are required unless it has been written on their sheet. The rest of the children will just be wearing their school uniforms. Any props and masks will be made in school as part of their learning about Spring.  Every child has a part to play in the Assembly and have been impressing Mrs Stenhouse so far with their saying lines, singing and acting! We will continue with this over the next couple of weeks.

In Maths, P2 will continue to look at numbers to 100. This has proved a little bit tricky for some, as we are getting a bit confused about how to write some of the larger numbers, but we are making good progress and persevering! The P1 Triangles have been continuing with their addition and subtraction within 20 and have been successful in their learning. The P1 Circles have been trying some subtraction within 10 and I have been very impressed with how well they are doing, without having to use concrete materials like cubes and teddy bears! We will keep working on this until the Easter Break.

The children are all making excellent progress in their Reading and Mrs Stenhouse was happy to hear so many parents have seen a big difference since all moving on to slightly more challenging books! The children need to remember to look at the sounds and blend them together to read the words, as the pages are not going to be repetitive now, they are going to have to work hard to read all the different words! Also they need to remember that they will come across words that they do not know, and that is ok!

We have been learning some new sounds this week and word building with these sounds using cubes, magnets and writing pens. Please note there will be no new tricky words coming  out for the time being as we feel the children need some time to revise the ones they already have. So for homework, the expectation is that they go over the ones they already have, and learn to read and write those ones, before moving on. We will learn 1 new sound before the holidays and then will be doing lots of consolidation activities.
